Charles Soule on Astonishing X-Men: Astonishing X-Men is designed to be picked up cold - I reintroduce the characters for new readers. It's intense, kind of scary, with big beats.
On the cast: The characters are sort of a cast more than a team - but all have important roles to play. You'll see. Especially excited to write Bishop.
On Old Man Logan part of multiple books: I hear you, but I needed his particular character and background here. Laura wouldn't work for the story I'm telling.
On whether Psylocke will wear her ninja "thong" again: Page 3 of #1 has a specific note about not doing that, I'm afraid. Psylocke has a huge role in the story, though. I don't think it [the thong] makes sense for what she does in the story - that simple.
On Astonishing X-Men primary location: Primary location is London.
On whether the team is getting new uniforms: Yes. But it's a cast, not a team.
On the cast backstory: The whole cast has super complex pasts. Not ignoring the history, but I am specifically writing this so you DON'T HAVE TO KNOW IT TO ENJOY.
On continuity: I wanted to favor accessibility over strict continuity in Astonishing. Some longtime X-fans may dislike that, but I'll take the hit.
On whether Astonishing X-Men will be double-shipping: I believe no.

So, not only Betsy won't wear the bathing suit again, but she will also address that on panel. I guess many people here will be very happy.
Will Soule do a good job? I don't know. But it's nice that he will try to show the characters without demanding that the readers know everything about their pasts, and I'm curious to see what he means about the Astonishing X-Men being "a cast, not a team". Maybe rather than a single, big team, we'll see multiple smaller teams (and even some of the characters in solo adventures) with their stories happening simultaneously. Kinda like in the early half of the 1990s X-Men.
That could explain how Psylocke and Fantomex will be on the same book (even though they're constantly trying to kill each other nowadays).
