Psylocke #3 Spoilers

Spoilers: Betsy finds out that Jinn used to be a killer for The Hand, but walked away from this life after he found love. It turns out that The Hand ninjas murdered Jinn's pregnant wife on behalf of Matsu'o. When Psylocke uses her telepathy on him, Jinn finds out on her mind where Matsu'o is and warns Betsy not to stand on his way, as he leaves her behind. Psylocke is left confused as she's not aware of Matsu'o's location, however she finally realizes what Jinn saw on her mind: Matsu'o is at the same place where Kwannon died. Meanwhile, Jinn reaches Matsu'o, but Yukio arrives to stop Jinn. Soon after, Betsy gets there and protects Yukio from Jinn's attacks. Jinn is upset at Psylocke, as she wants Matsu'o's death as much as him but won't let him do it. Betsy explains that Matsu'o is playing both of them and she needs to know why. Jinn doesn't care and attacks Psylocke. Betsy uses her psychic-knife on him, leaving him unconscious. She then orders Matsu'o to face her and explain his actions. Matsu'o reveals his crippled body and tells her he did everything so that Betsy would kill him. He says he will never stop and will kill everyone Betsy cares about, Brian, Warren and Dazzler, until she kills him. Psylocke is shocked and asks who did that to him. Wolverine arrives at the scene and reveals that he was the one. Logan warns her: Matsu'o's not done paying, so he doesn't get to die. Just epic!

LOL I'm glad to see that I was right about Matsu'o's motives; he wants Betsy to kill him because Logan won't let him die.

@LuckyStar: did Matsu'o really mention Ali?! *happy dance*

I had a feeling this was the plan all along. The next issue is going to have one epic battle between Psylocke and Wolverine. I think the story is being set up to allow Psylocke to make the killing blow, but no longer out of rage and revenge, but rather out of mercy (first book opening panels).

Yeah, I like what the guy above suggests (that it's out of mercy she kills). I don't like the idea of Betsy being a cold killer, in the manner of Logan or some other characters, and I was afraid Yost may do that.

Wonder what Matsu'o did to Logan! Have I missed something somewhere?

I like that Brian, Warren and Alison are namechecked :) Hope in the next year we get SOME kind of comment on Warren's reaction to Betsy's return! I miss these kind of little, interpersonal moments in the xbooks these days.

I know this is fiction, and things sometimes don't make sense...

But if matsu'o was that desperate to die, he could've just as easily killed himself.

...but then, of course, we wouldn't have this epicness right here if he did.

Why would he kill himself? That's the whole point of the story. Matsu'o wants to die with honor, and not as a "coward". Revanche did the same years ago.

Seppuku (suicide via disembowelment) is an honorable way to die for the Japanese.

You didn't read the issue? Matsu'o says he can no longer hold a seppuku knife and end his life himself with honor.

He did? The issue won't be available in our country till next week, i think. Now it makes sense.

UGH I didn't want a mercy kill. I wanted her to do one of the things she can do best. KILL She has always had that killer instinct even in the Aussie days when she wanted to kill the Marauders and Havok, it shouldn't matter what Wolverine did to Matta he has taken things from them all. He caused Mariko to poison herself, he had Jinn's pregnant wife killed, he had her original body destroyed. He caused pain in countless, she should shove a sword down his throat.

The vengence kill would have been the easy kill. It may be justifiable, but it doesn't make for character advancement. She's killed and she's not afraid too, but this is much more. There is too much history with these characters (Psylocke, Wolverine, and Matsu'o) for a simple anger-kill. This way Psylocke can exact justice and regain/maintain her "soul" as a hero.

I dont think the anger kill works here either. I think Betsy had decided that she does not want Matsu'o actions to guide her life or ruin anyone else's for that matter. And as she looks at what Wolverine is doing, and is shocked by what he is capable of, she realizes the jump between killer and psycho is not to far. So does she make that leap and help continue the pain and justify torture because of what Matsu'o has done in the past? Or does she end the cycle of insanity and retain some of her humanity? I think good comic writing reflects real world issues. And the issue of torture and what, if anything justifies it and the reprocussions if we do it is a hot button topic.

Really great issue, i felt Psylockes inner monologue about having to stop Jinn a little over the top, as far as we know unlike Betsy he chose to kill people and work for matsuo so i dont see why this killer she barely knows she would be so concerned with saving.

The end reveal of Matsuo was great love the fact Betsy and Logan are going to fight just because they completley disagree with each other and not because either of them is being controlled, its very honour bound.

Suprised Dazzler got a mention never seen them that close, but it was a nice touch.

I knew he'd rather die at her hands even though she only looks like Kwannon. Good issue, better than number two and makes me look forward to number four.

Personally I think matsu'o deserves everything Logan is oding to him. But Psylocke has the right to kill him. I think they should kill him together.

If keeping him alive endangers Warren, Alison and Brian then wouldnt Wolverine allow him to die?

Im suprised all Betsy's hate has suddenly washed away, she should have joined in on the torturing. Going to be great to see her go against Wolverine.

im expecting a cliche mercy kill ending...

Great summary!

Just one question: when Wolverine shows up, is he in his X-Men uniform, in his X-Force uniform or in normal clothes? The cover of Psylocke #4 seems to imply he's in his X-Force outfit, but it would be quite risky to reveal his black-ops outfit to Betsy...

he's in his x-force outfit

Wow, wow, wow... Absolutely marvelous. Very good story telling.

I knew that Wolverine was doing something to Matsu'o like cutting a piece of him every year on the day of wolverines lovers death but I didn't think it'd be that horrific.

I even feel sorry for Matsu'o and cringe and think about the pain he must be in just by looking at him and just want Psylocke to put him out of his misery.

Love this series. Simply beautiful, stunning and captivating.
