Psylocke Mini & Uncanny X-Men Update

+ X-Men: Psylocke MINI

Chris Yost posted over the CBR forums and teased Psylocke fans:

"Did you guys see Harvey's sketches that he did on Psylocke? Pretty sweet, right? You have no idea what you're in for. He's turning in pages that are seriously some of the best things EVER. They're stunning."

Joe Quesada also talked about the mini in his Cup o' Joe column:

"With a character like Psylocke, we get pitches on her all the time, and it just didn't feel right and that goes for timing as well as pitches. Now it does."

+ Uncanny X-Men

Artist Terry Dodson has identified the X-Women on his pencils for issue #514. When asked about who they were, he commented on his blog:

"X-Ladies - Left-Right - Dani Moonstar, Domino, Mindee Cuckoo (in her Dark Queen Emma meets Teen X-Men outfit), Psylocke.

Why do I get the sense Joe Quesadilla has shot down many Psylocke opportunities in the past...

Probably because most of them were pitched by Claremont. lol CC wanted Sword of the Braddocks to be a mini-series originally.

Nice to see that Dani Moonstar still cares about the X-Men, despite being previously kicked from the mansion by Emma and Scott when she lost her powers.

As for Mindee, I wonder how her sisters feel with only Mindee being chosen to fight alongside the great X-Ladies (Psylocke, Domino and Moonstar... okay, just Psylocke is a great x-lady, but still...).

This is an interesting mix of X-Ladies, but only Psylocke and Domino are relevant :) Especially, Psylocke.

I'm so glad she's back in a main title

Hi, Are there any links to those sketches that Chris Yost referred to in the aforementioned quote? Thanks :)

something tells me they are going to kill off more cuckoos one by one. just like they feel psylocke can't exist as a telepath because of emma, i could see them saying the same about all the other telepaths.

I don't think so... There are two Cuckoos with the X-Men in Legacy #266's preview, so even if Mindee is one of them, we know that at least another one is also alive and well. I mean, if the three of them survived Phoenix Warsong, the three of them will probably be around for a while.

As for Psylocke, she's also a telepath now, isn't she? So it seems Fraction doesn't intend to make Emma the only telepath in the team...

(assuming, of course, that Emma will remain in the team after Utopia - I hope so, but who knows...)

FSaker, I would prefer to have Emma and Psylocke on the same team. It may make for some interesting dialogue exchanges and maybe a "cat fight" or two :)

Yeah, me too, Centurion! The problem with Emma is that she's been pushed to the reader as the alpha-female in the X-Men, but when she's not all front and center, she is quite a likeable character (like in Morrison's New X-Men).

I can picture Betsy and Emma being not like enemies, but more like "bitchy friends", throwing insults at each other for an hour, then getting bored and deciding to go to a bar or to a shopping mall together...

FSaker, I share a similar sentiment. Maybe some rivaly between them would be interesting and healthy, but certainly not to the point where it becomes polemical. I like Emma Frost, too, it is just that I stopped reading X-Men in 1996 before Emma was reintroduced as a main X-Woman. So, when I started reading Uncanny again in 2007, I was surprised to see her in the forefront. I could definitely see Psylocke and Emma collaborating as two of the X-Men's most powerful telepaths.

I was just wondering, does Betsy still talk with a British accent? I know that Emma does and it would be kinda cool to hear them exchanging insaults with an accent:p

I can imagine Emma and Psylocke having to sort out their differences. Maybe they'll have have to tag team someone like Cassandra Nova or the Shadow King? That would be awesome.

Xypha, not sure... I would assume she does since she has the soul and consciousness of British Betsy in her current Asian body. If you have seen Episode 8 of "Wolverine and the X-Men" the Psylocke depicted there is Asian, but has an English accent. I hope she joins the X-Men in the second season of the cartoon. It may be a good way for Marvel to advertise Psylocke to a younger generation (hope Marvel is reading this) :)

Hi, Xypha; this is an addendum to my last post. I remember when Claremont penned Psylocke in the 80s, she was depicted as having a distinct English accent, because at that time - before the body swap with Kwannon - she was obviously English. At that time, Betsy also used English idioms in her speech as well, giving her a very authentic English persona whenever she appeared in the issues of Uncanny. It was refreshing, and I would contend that Betsy had some solid writing in those days.

I think Claremont was the most talented writer in protraying Betsy as an English woman, but others have done it quite well once Bets acquired Kwannon's body, too.

If one reads Fraction's portrayal of Betsy in the most recent issues of Uncanny, one may not consider her ever being British at all... I am eager to see if Claremont brings Psylocke into X-Men Forever as a regular character and if she remains British, as if the body swap ever existed, or is somehow transformed into an Asian woman. Reverting to this iconic era in X-Men history sans Psylocke, a character that helped make it iconic, would be strange to say the least...
