X-Force #2 Spoilers

Spoilers: Cable holds a video conference with some of mutantkind leading figures (Wolverine, Storm, Mystique, Polaris, Magneto, Havok and Cyclops) to inform them about Meme, the mutant who was abducted, tortured and weaponized. Meanwhile Fantomex, Psylocke and Marrow sneak into a facility in Saudi Arabia, following Cable’s orders. Fantomex’ constant flirting upsets Betsy. Cable reveals how other mutants and depowered mutants are undergoing the same treatment as Meme, including Marrow who got something synthetizing her powers as a result though she’s not technically a mutant again. Cable warns the others that after the Alexandria incidents, several countries took extreme measures against mutants. Cable calls out the mutant leaders on their bullshit and tells them to stay out of his way. He’ll take care of it. Cable teleports to Saudi Arabia and joins the rest of X-Force. At the facility, they find a man called Fiqh who’s in the know about the responsible for the atrocities committed against mutants. Fiqh knows Cable won’t kill him without learning the information he wants, so he asks X-Force to kill Qareen, a spiritual entity possessing a corpse, for him in exchange. Cable doesn’t want to drag the others with him and decides to do it alone. The rest follow him anyway. The spiritual entity leaves the corpse and heads to a panic room. Meme breaks out the door, allowing Cable to face Qareen. Cable tricks Qareen into possessing his own body and kills himself. Fiqh realizes Qareen is dead and hands the data to Psylocke. X-Force return to their base only to find Cable pretty much alive and not keen on revealing how he survived the explosion. X-Force finally learn who’s behind the atrocities: a billionaire named Yevgeny-Malevich Volga.

Well, I haven't read this issue yet, but this description makes it look like a great story. Now we know how Marrow got her powers back and why she chose to join Cable's team, got to know Meme and found out who is causing trouble between governments and mutants.

I like the idea that the big bad guy isn't a supervillain, but someone capable of threatening mutantkind by other means. Volga doesn't need to directly attack mutants to destroy them, he only needs to manipulate the way how governments perceive mutantkind to make THEM destroy mutants. If besides being a billionaire Volga also had some control over the media, he could be more dangerous than even Cassandra Nova, Magneto or Apocalypse: sometimes, information (or manipulation of information, in this case) can be the most powerful weapon.

Speaking of X-Force, I know it's still too soon, but has any of you thought about who could join the team after the first arcs?

This Alexandria Incident and the fact that Hope is comatose make me wonder if this is the event that made Bishop believe that she would bring persecution and death to mutantkind (somehow, Volga may have made Hope cause all the deaths associated to this incident and plans to reveal what she did as a way to exterminate all mutants). So I think he could fit well into this book, maybe initially as an enemy and later, when he finds out the truth, he could join the X-Force.

Domino would also be a good fit; she is a regular member in most of X-Force's incarnations, and she has ties to both Cable and Psylocke. Plus, it seems she doesn't have any other Marvel book to go nowadays...

Finally, don't know what gave me this idea, but the current Ant-Man could be interesting. I know, he's neither a mutant nor commonly associated to the X-Men, but a man capable of shrinking could be very useful for a black-ops team. Plus, Scott Lang didn't join the Avengers back in AvX, and this could mean that he respects mutants more than his former Avengers peers...

What about 616 blink or sage? I miss AoA blink but 616 blink would do the trick for me. Plus Psylocke has already shared books with them.

How is the team teleporting anyway?

tacabal,

I like Clarice, but if she joins the team will have way too much pink and purple hair with her, Elizabeth and Sarah.

:-P

But maybe that's why it is okay to bring in Blink, because Psylocke's hair is currently black in X-Force. Mhm-mhm.

Really great issue for X-force. It looks like Spurrier is going into the controversy about the morality between terrorism and warfare. I really like the fact that he trying to go out his way into developing a different side of X-force when it comes into assassination stories like Rick Remender's Apocalypse issue(best of them all).

Yeah, I agree. Plus, his X-Force isn't really an assassination squad like Remender's (or Kyle & Yost's), it's just a team that acts in the shadows and is more prone to the use of violence. Since Psylocke now has this resolution never to kill again, I'm sure she wouldn't join the team if Cable defined that they should kill the enemies of mutantkind.

It's surprising that CBR is rating this book so low. Although IGN gave this last issue a positive review, so maybe the problem is in CBR reviewers, not in the book.
