Uncanny X-Men #509 Spoilers

Spoilers: While Northstar is giving a live interview, breaking news come from Sacramento: Simon Trask manages to muscle "Proposition X" to an emergency ballot vote. If it passes, mutants won't be allowed to breed, which upsets the X-Men. On the next day, the X-Club decides to travel back in time to study the parents of a first-generation mutant. Now, the Sisterhood enters the scene. The Red Queen explains to her girls that she found Psylocke travelling between parallel worlds, therefore she cast a spell to bring Betsy home, while Spiral recreated tissues and organs for Kwannon's corpse. Now, Psylocke seems to be under her control. The Red Queen adds that they reanimated a dead body capable of containing such a powerful psyche as a test, because they will be doing it again. It's revealed that the Red Queen is a "ghost", without a body of her own. She says there have been two hosts able to contain her powers, but the first one was destroyed. When asked about the second one, the Queen just tells the others that she knew her path would cross with Cyclops' someday. At night, Cyclops feels uncomfortable by Emma's side and decides to sleep on the couch, when Northstar, Dazzler and a drunk Pixie arrive at 3 a.m. Scott complains about it to Jean-Paul and Alison, when they are attacked by Martinique and Chimera. Lady Mastermind takes care of Emma. Spiral stabs Nightcrawler and Colossus. And Lady Deathstrike ambushes Wolverine. The Red Queen appears and affirms that Logan is the man she's been looking for. To be continued...

Thank you very much for the info, LuckyStar!

Wow, I don't know if Fraction did a good work putting this story in the pages, but it sounds great! So Betsy's time in the Exiles has been addressed after all (that's good), and I guess the woman with red hair in the UXM #511 cover isn't Jean Grey in the end, but Madelyne Pryor's corpse being possessed by the Red Queen. That's very interesting!

Two questions come from this issue, though:

1) Where is Psylocke during the Sisterhood attack to the X-mansion? She should be taking part in it, right?

2) Why would the Red Queen be interested in LOGAN??

I'm curious to see the next issue.

A ghost who could obviously touch Betsy? And if the RedQ "snatched" Betsy, how did she prevent the Exiles/Sage from coming to Betsy's rescue?

Other than those illogical moments, I'm 100% sure that Betsy is faking the "obiedience thing" - she's just waiting for the right moment to open a can of whoopass on the "sisters" collective butts! ;-)

FSaker, Betsy just appears for two pages right after what happened last issue. The Red Queen also explains how she switched bodies with Kwannon, but that's it for this issue. I guess we'll see Psylocke in action in UXM510, that's why Marvel is advertising it as "The Return of Psylocke" issue! Just one month :(

The touch issue is curious, indeed. As for the second one, well, the new Exiles writer said he will explain in later issues what happened to the previous team, so maybe they were also facing problems at the time? Plus, Sage is a b*tch. ;-)

I wonder when Uncanny X-Men #510 will be released. After #508 and #509 being released in the same month, will #510 be released in a month or in 15 days? Ah well, I guess we'll find this out soon...

And two pages is better than no pages, right? :-D

Oh, one last question: so the Red Queen enslaves Psylocke (or at least appears to do so), but does she at least remind to give Betsy some CLOTHES, or does she leave Betsy naked for the whole 2 pages she appears in?

Come on, even Spiral remembered to give Lady Deathstrike some clothes after rebuilding her...

LOL. From what I've been told (didn't read it myself yet) the Red Queen gives her a white towel (or bed sheet) to cover her body. I'm can't to see what she'll wear next issue, I hope it's a new pink/lavender uniform!

Another month?? I can't wait another day for #510 to come out, much less thirty days!!! :-(

It's good to know that this IS Betsy in her original body...unless Fraction is screwing with us and this is Betsy from Earth-1212 or something. But I'm sure that he wouldn't want to have a bunch of crazy (us) Betsy fans chasing him with torches!

On a side note. It seems that the Sisterhood has counted Kwannon out of the equation, but I wouldn't be surprised if she still out there in the ether somehow. Remember, before she died her TP was all over the place; maybe she becamed powerful enough to survive and exsist on the Astral Plane, much like the Shadowking do/did. And now that her original body is "empty"...you do the math. ;-)

That has to be an alternate Psylocke that the Red Queen kidnapped; Jamie bound Elisabeth's threads of casualty so tightly that no one would be able to mainipulate her!

I think it's cute that Fraction's clues were so totally honest - he told us it was a test, and the Red Queen validated that, verbatim.

Now... remember, he said to wait till the end of the arch. I can't wait! Gaah!

Well, Slaymaster killed a good part of the existing Psylockes, and I don't think that among the surviving ones there is another who also travels between parallel worlds. So it seems this IS 616 Betsy, after all.

Yeah, it goes against Jamie's work on her body. Then again, I always thought that was a stupid idea from Claremont...

It's the real Psylocke, guys. Not even CC cared for those psychic shields. Remember House of M? Plus, this Red Queen seems to be really powerful, she could just undo Jamie's work. It's PSYLOCKE, the one and only.

I'm really disappointed in this issue. She is only in TWO PAGES. Now why on Earth would they even put her on the damn cover? I was so excited for this issue. They should have taken out the Science Club pages and the preview in the back of the book and instead used those pages to show some flashbacks about Betsy and have some character development. I was just hoping there'd be way more of Betsy in this issue considering she was on the cover and she is not even really in it. And now she has "no personality" and is mind controlled? 'The Return of Psylocke' better not be some half assed way to switch her back into the other body already.

It'd be cool if they made Kwannon's body a vessel and evil and left Brtish Betsy alone so she could be the telepath on the team when Emma leaves to do Dark X-men.

The rest of the story didn't make much sense either. She needs Wolverine probably for his healing factor but she was able to get Betsy's body back to life just fine even though it was damaged by a virus and other things. I hate how the assumed Madalyn Pryor character could be like five different versions of Jean, it's all so complicated. Oh well, guess we'll have to wait two months to see where Betsy ends up at the end of the Sisterhood.

It just occured to me that the Red Queen might be keeping Kwannon's body for herself as a safe measure in case Jean's body isn't quite as receptive as she wants it to be...

Giles said...

Jean's body...well, the body on UXM #511 - couldn't it also be Maddies dead ol' body? ;-)

About the immunity, in New Exile #3 it was shown that Bety's psi-form could be materialised outside her body, but with her immunity still in place. Maybe that's what's happening here. The RedQ might have managed to transfer Betsy's mind to her original body, but Betsy might still be herself, just pretending to be obeying.

On the HoM stuff, I always thought that Jamie transported Betsy to the WHR because her immunity would have prevented her from changing when reality changed. He who then teleported her back to the changed 616 - and I have always presumed that he changed her to adapt her to the new reality. Or something...am I making any sence at all?? :-(

Come to think of it, IF Betsy is still herself in her orginal body because of the immunity, than she's still probably be a teke, which would be really boring. I want her to be a powerful TP - that's why I was so glad when I saw what Luckystar had written:

"...such a powerful psyche..."

;-)

I don't think they're gonna bring CC's stupid plot of her psychic immunity into this. Well, Betsy was even mind-controlled in New Exiles' first arc anyway. If a Z-List villain can mind control her in New Exiles, I don't think it would be a problem for the powerful Red Queen to do the same.

Well the British body was ravaged (always liked that word) by the legacy virus, which, in my understanding, made mutant powers flare up to the point of explosion. So it could be that the tranference gave Psylocke her telepathy back, but with it magnified. Heck Betts is problably an omega level telepath by now...

Red Queen ending up possessing Kwannon's body... that's a good idea, Rogue. It would let the Asian Psylocke fans happy that the body is still running around, and plus, the Red Queen is too cool to just vanish in the air or being stuck in Jean's boring body.

Anonymous said...

FSaker has a good point. Red Queen, Psylocke... seems familiar somehow, isn't it? (from some alternative world)

Anonymous said...

FSaker, I think you might be onto something here. This is my guess as well. If the Red Queen isn't able to posses Jean's (or the real Madelyne's) body, she will use Kwannon's body!

And don't call Jean's body boring :/ I love her LOL

Francis said...

agreed Jean's never bore

Anonymous said...

the body on UXM #511 cover looks to be Emma Frost from the outfit and the blonde hair, rather than Jean.

FSaker said...

Heh, I like Jean too, I just have some kind of love/hate relationship with her. She's usually portrayed as kinda boring (except in Morrison's run, when she was brilliant!), but still, I'd love to see her alive again, whether being with the X-Men or not (she'd be a great addition to any of the current Avengers teams, I think; if she comes back to the X-Men, I just hope she gets rid of the Phoenix for good).

Oh, and the "Red Queen possessing Kwannon's body was Rogue's idea, not mine. I just agreed that it could be a great idea if well implemented in the arc.

Giles said...

The RedQ possessing Betsy's original body sounds like a good backup plan. At first I was sad to hear that Betsy was nothing but a test, but then the Queen's little speach about Betsy's original body being able to house enormous psychic powers made me think that Red would've probably used the body for herself, if she hadn't been forced to make a test first.
