X-Men: Second Coming #2 Spoilers & Art

Chapter 1:
After destroying Bastion and the dome, Hope floats while every mutant gathers around her. For a moment, Xavier thinks this feels like his dream again, until it passes and Hope passes out. 30 hours later, Hope wakes up at the infirmary, where the X-Club is checking on all the wounded: Colossus, Archangel, Iceman, Karma, Magneto and Hellion. Hope asks Magneto if they think she’s dangerous, to what Erik tells her that sometimes is quite beneficial to be thought of as dangerous.

Chapter 2:
It’s Cable’s funeral and everybody gathers around his coffin. Cyclops mourns the death of his son, crying. Hope says that her father lived as a true soldier, so nobody needs to cry for him, even though she cries too. Afterwards, the kids want to comfort Hope, but Prodigy tells them that Hope is all of them, so whatever they want to say to her, she already probably knows. Cyclops tells Rogue that because of her they could be burying Hope instead of Cable, and that Nightcrawler and Cable’s deaths would be in vain, so he demotes her: Rogue’s off of any strike team.

Chapter 3:
Storm finds Logan having a beer in Kurt’s room. They talk about X-Force. While Storm condemns their actions, Wolverine says they did what was needed to be done and had they killed more of them, Kurt would still be alive. Storm is sorry to hear that because that might be the last drink they share together. Afterwards, Logan meets X-23. He tells her that she’s off of X-Force and that it’s about time that she makes her own decisions. Finally, Wolverine meets Cyclops. Scott tells him about how Storm, Colossus, Iceman, and Xavier came to him to talk about X-Force. While Scott doesn’t have any regrets about what they did, he says there’s no place for X-Force in the future of the X-Men. Logan agrees with him, but as soon as Cyclops leaves, he gathers his new X-Force: Archangel, Psylocke, Fantomex and Deadpool. He says there’s only one rule: No one can know.

Chapter 4: Scott is writing a letter to Amanda Sefton, when Iceman tells him that Beast is leaving again. Namor accuses Beast of turning his back on his people. Meanwhile the kids start a bonfire at the end of the island. Emma watches Hope around the fire, when suddenly Hope displays the Phoenix raptor and stares at her. Emma immediately remembers the vision she had of Jean in the White Hot Room during the Sisterhood arc. She runs to Scott to tell him about it, but he interrupts her saying that they were right: Cerebro's picked up five new mutant signatures from around the globe. Five lights.

Hopefully They don't kill Psylocke on the new x-force like they did in the extreme x-men and where is Domino going to fit in now?

Domino is no good on any other team.

Domino won't be anywhere. I can't say I'll miss her...

And Jean's return in 2011 is now more obvious than ever. Prepare.

That was a pretty good comic, Greg Land notwithstanding. My one gripe regards exactly Besty, she has no business being in a black-ops tem after all the drama in her own limited series.

Otherwise, I'm SO glad the "Nomore mutants" bs is finally over.

I think we are going to have to wait and see how they write Betsy into joining X-force, she usually sides with Storm or Cyclops and neither is involved in this new X-force. I cant imagine at all how they are going to write Fantomex and Deadpool into staying with this team. I hope Vanisher's not dead i liked him. I hated Domino ever since she put a gun to a cuckoos head and Wolverine didnt stop her either.

I would put a gun to cuckoos too, and pull the trigger with no regret.
Those lil bitches need to gone, one Emma is more than enough.
I guess X-Force will have more members, I also want Deadpool gone after the first arc.
Hope Betsy uses more telepathy in X-Force, I still dont see her being a TK ninja, no point in have physic katanas. Just it dont make sense.
Second coming ends and we still dont know what is Hope. That sucks.
I just hope this ends with Jean coming back to stay, and without Phoenix force, please, just Jean.

Second Coming #2 turned out to be surprisingly good after all! Sure, the mini-chapters don't have a smooth transition from one to another, but the writers did manage to bring a lot of surprises.

For instance, I didn't expect that the Uncanny X-Force would be revealed so soon, that was quite surprising. Rogue being "fired" from the frontline squads was tough (Scott was a jerk to her when giving the news, but he does have a point). And even though Fraction can't stop boring us to death with his Cyclops idolization (was it really necessary to have Namor insulting Beast and show Hank as the jerk for leaving?), it impressed me that he did use that scene with Jean back in the Sisterhood arc to close this chapter in the X-Men's existence. Nice move!

Great issue! Too bad Ribic's art isn't so good as usual and Land's... well, no comments. Although his rendition of Betsy looks good.

Who is Cyclops to treat rouge so harshly? There have been more than just a few who died under him: Jean, Thunderbird, etc. Thats the game they're playing the stakes are extremly high. Rouge has been way more of an upstanding X-man than the majority considering her orgins. Which by the way should be the next major film project. X-Men Orgins: Rouge..mystique destiny the brother hood...the austrailian out back..EFF Scott!! I hope Jean destroys him and Emma...

XMen Origins: Psylocke????? Anybody???? English to Asian transformation and all??

Wheres Rachel at during all of this? When are we going to see some dialouge between Rachel and Hope?? They obviously have a blood connection and yet we see no interaction between the two. Hope could probably help Rachel out ALOT! Especially if she's wielding the Phoenix force!

Rachel is in space, along with Korvus, Havok, and Polaris. It's stated that the writers have some future plans for a story involving them.

If Hope had been killed in this battle EVERYTHING would have been in vain, Cyclops was right to bitch at Rogue shes just being her selfish stupid self like always.

Rahsaan said...

How was Anna being selfish? If anything, she was being the exact opposite by respecting Hope's (not Scott's) wishes. Hope had the right to fight.

FSaker said...

Anna wasn't selfish, but she was careless. I understand her reasons to let Hope join the fight, and I probably would have done the same in her place. But Scott was right, Hope could have died in the battle, and if that happened everything would have been in vain. I don't think she deserved the punishment she got, but she did deserve a lecture from him.

Anyway, I'm probably late with this news, but Psylocke also gets a cameo in this week's Heroic Age issue of the X-Men: she appears with the X-Men when they are welcomed back to San Francisco, and it seems that her outfit fully covers one of her legs (but it's probably just a mistake from the colorist): http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh78/ColonelGreen/SC7.jpg

---

Finally, everyone mentions that Wolverine has recruited Fantomex, Deadpool, Psylocke and Archangel, but you're forgetting one of the most important members of the team (after Psylocke, of course): E.V.A.!!! I hope after the Apocalypse arc, E.V.A. will assume her humanoid form for some minutes, so that she can have some tea with Betsy.

Anonymous said...

I have no idea what's E.V.A. I don't remember much from Morrison's run. I was just 12 yrs old at the time. I only remember thinking the drawing were quite ugly haha. Everyone looked like ugly 60 year olds. haha

Logically, what Cyclops did to Rogue made NO DIFFERENCE in the status quo. He *itched her out, and yet, he still ahs her teaching kids and building her own makeshift teams, she's still looking after Hope, and she's still the only one that has really connected with the messiah outside of X-force and Cable. Rogue will be influencing Hope until Magneto gets his hooks into her, so there was no real point in that scene other than to reinforce the status quo Rogue and Legacy already have and to point out time and time again that "Cyclops is a jerk" [Kitty voice].

I really wish Fraction would stop trying to force Cyclops down our throat. In both Second Coming #2 and Heroic Age: X-men, he stroked Cyclops off, and he even managed to undo all the hatred Hope had built up towards him. In one issue... that's bad. Cyclops being the only one to get a medal when all his plans were failing left and right was a little ridiculous to me, but alas, Fraction is the man in charge. The man seems set on worshipping Scott and making Emma into Jean-lite. Are we not going to talk about Emma in this issue? She seems like a completely different person these days. Maybe the cuckoos should off her.

Rogue wouldn't be rogue if she wasn't a rogue know what I'm saying. I like the fact that she's an important character lately and that she can control her powers, but she's more unpredictable lately.

Emma Frost is a joke.

I do hope there is at least some dialogue between Cypher and Psylocke now that they are both alive.

Also, I thought Chod said that the starjammers were heading back to earth...meaning Rachel will probably be confronting Hope sooner than expected. Didn't the Phoenix force recently leave her?...interesting.

For those of you who think Hope is this timeline's Rachel, the whole bit in "Heroic Age" with Hope and Franklin Richards may be a nod to the Rachel/Franklin "Days of Future Past/Present" relationship. that's my 2 cents

I agree Cypher and Betsy should TOTALLY hook up!! Its funny that after ALL these years that the same characters are around(albeit quite different) but the same characters I have been an Xmen fan since the mid 80's and love the possibilities of plot line from back then being tid up later. I can appreciate the continutity!!
