haha It's so weird to see her flying like that. It looks like an asian Ms Marvel lol.

Seeing Betsy flying makes me cringe my teeth... :-(

She isn't necessarily flying though, she could have just leapt at the sentinal?

She's flying. Look at the upper right corner of the page. Tiny Betsy flying in all her Superman glory haha

I like Dodson's Betsy alot. She looks very intense and is in the thick of the action.

As much as I'm not in love with the idea of a "flying" Betsy, these scenes and the scenes from the previous chapters have established that she can fly/levitate (at least in a limited way).

I do think that the editors/writers are getting away from the Claremont-Era super-sonic flying Betsy (which is good). She looks cooler riding a motorcycle, anyway (X-Force #27).

I really enjoy this art, looks great! Dodson is great to draw action scenes (although he's quite limited to draw emotional scenes, which may be one reason why the issue with Kurt's funeral had the art looking so out of place).

I'm okay with Betsy flying once in a while, as long as she doesn't make a habit of it. However, how is she affecting the Nimrod with what seems to be her psychic knife? Do Nimrods have minds to be affected by it? Or maybe she was actually pushing it towards Iceman with a telekinetic push in its head?

What reminds me... shouldn't Iceman be HOSPITALIZED??? Is Fraction even reading the issues released by the other writers? First we had Domino at Kurt's funeral, with her appearing at the New Mutants issue completely unaware of Kurt's death, now Bobby was badly injured the issue before but is in great shape to fight again...

I have to agree with ANON@5:31PM. While, I am not a fan of TK Betsy, she does appear to be flying and levitating herself and others in this crossover.

As others have said, the powers-that-be are at least pulling back on the whole "I can smash mountains" TK Psylocke and pushing forward her Telepathy again.

If anything, Betsy's flight capabilities appear to be limited, so it may be safe to assume that she won't be doing any trans-oceanic flying or traveling at faster-than-sound speeds.

This combo TP/TK Psylocke is growing on me. If they keep her psi-abilities uniquely specialized (psi-blades) and integrated with her martial artistry/physicality (enhanced Matrix-like agility and strength), then I think the creative team can successfully distinguish her powerset even if certain other TP/TK comes back at the end of this crossover.

Psylocke's unique ability to FOCUS her psi-abilities and localize them around her person should separate her from others who may have similar powersets.

What she may have lost in traditional application of her psi-powers she more than makes up for in concentrated lethalness.

Afterall, there must have been a reason why she was called in to potentially lobotomize Emma and Scott when they were confronting the void when Professor Xavier was there.

Dodsons art is bad. I wish someone else was on the Uncanny issues. It's so light and fluffy it takes away the feel of chaos and danger the scenes are supposed to have.

I looked at Marvel's website now, and... did they get confused with the dates or is this issue supposed to be released only two weeks from now??

Is it really so special that we should wait one extra week for it?

I dont think she is flying this time.
I think she just jumped from the roof behind her.
Iceman can see her jumping, then she hits the sentinel with a TK hit and then Iceman shoot an ice blast to it.
I dont like her flying, not even if she only levitate.
Ninjas dont fly lol

Weren't the Dragon Ball Z guys ninja? They flew all the time.

Francis said...

ok please quit arguing about her
flying... she can so she does

and i've never seen a telekinetic in marvel universe who cannot fly...you say she's more special if she could fly but she would not do it coz it's not hers, but honestly this seems rather Snob-Telekinesis...or just a handicap

and she's Clearly flying...here and in new mutants...let's close this levitating debate and let's focus more on the fact she's getting enormous spotlight and good writings since she came back one year ago...and that's all us fan should need

it looks more like an athletic jump between the girders this time around especially the way her back is so arched and her hands are reaching.

Anonymous said...

Fsaker: if you looked closer at her hand it is open - that is not her psychic knife at all, it's TK enhanced strength in the form of an open-handed chop to the base of the neck (similar to her tk enhanced kicks in the mini.)

I'm one of the proponents for Betsy's flight abiltiies, as long as it isn't exaggerated. She should certain explore other facets of her telekinetic/telepathic abilities. This year has certainly seen Betsy grow in many ways, particularly in her skill set and how she employs those skills in battle.

@Anonymous 5:56PM - I fully agree that Betsy's "flight" ability could somehow be transformed into "Matrix" style ninja movement. If the writers could couple the flight/enhanced agility to Betsy's character, she may be more formidable as a ninja warrior.

Anonymous said...

Yeah. She's not using her psi-knife on the robot. It's a TK-bitchslap.

Weren't the Dragon Ball Z guys ninja? They flew all the time. <---- Actually, no. But one of them, Trunks, has purple hair and carries a sword. XD

I hate Betsy flying. It's off-putting. However, I do think she's flying here.

I hope they write out that ability and keep her limited to TK Blasts / Burst / Punches / Shields... localized energy. That's her edge.

Motorcycle Betsy > Superman Betsy.

Blank9 said...

haha Tk bitchslap!!!! Whatever it is its freakin sweet.

This is one of the reasons i dont want her flying the stuff shes doing with her Tk now, the propelled movements, the enhanced strikes, the close range shield, fast ball specials and one inch punch type explosions is really giving her such a cool and dynamic fighting style. Similar to how Marvel made her a unique close combat telepath with the psy-knife they are re imagining her again with this close quaters Tk. I remember when she was flying around like superman "smashing mountains" and throwing punches around like a thug it wasnt graceful refined or precise as she is supposed to be at all. If she starts flying all the time and shooting TK off as energy blasts it makes her so dreadfully boring, look at all the goddessy types, energy blasters and fliers we have already, Betsy deserves something better right? Whats the point of being a stealthy acrobatic ninja if you can just fly everywhere, Its like suddenly letting Spiderman or Wolverine fly! whats the point of using her martial arts at all if she can just TK blast things into oblivion, it just doesn't suit the action junkie fighter Betsy has always dreamed of being.

Not to mention she might aswell just be Jean Grey clone #5.

Anyways I dont want to start any arguments but that's my thoughts on the subject.

"i've never seen a telekinetic in marvel universe who cannot fly..."

Exactly why i don't want her to start flying.

This summed it up perfectly:

"Psylocke's unique ability to FOCUS her psi-abilities and localize them around her person should separate her from others who may have similar powersets.

What she may have lost in traditional application of her psi-powers she more than makes up for in concentrated lethalness."

I agree with the points raised here.

Keeping Psylocke on a TK power level that enables her to sustain flight makes her other physical abilities rather secondary, if not pointless.

And while that may be good for her in terms of keeping up with highly powered opponents, it does make her rather boringly similar to other TKnetics.

I think the perfect representation of her powers were shown during her mini. Localized telekinesis, moderately powerful telepathy, and a whole lot of stealth and martial arts. A little levitation here and there won't hurt, but "superman" flight is just silly on her.

*TK Bitchslap*!

Anonymous said...

What other TKnetics?
The only other TKer is Hellion.

FSaker said...

^
Currently in the team, yes. But sooner or later, Jean and/or Rachel will come back to the X-Men. And Hope may have telekinesis as one of her powers.

So there are other TKers, yes.

Betsy still differentiates herself due to her ninja skills, though.

Seriously, I think some of you are so deluded that you'd justify Betsy lifting off the Earth as "too much beans and rice" before you admit that she's flying. Get over it.

Anonymous said...

Don't forget MarvelBoy/Justice... TK/PK AND FLIGHT...

GOOD GOD i am glad none of you are at marvel's tables of meetings. psylocke would have never been brought back to life with all this stupid @ss nonsense over 'flying' versus 'poweers from another body' sh!

p.s. she is flying LMAO

K~ said...

I agree with anonymous above me haha. Everyone arguing about her flying. GOsh, if all of you were at a Marvel meeting, you'd make her the weakest character ever.
She looks great flying & so glad she's doing it! (since she's said several times that she loves it!) Go Betsy!

Why did Chris Claremont have to ***k her up with the Vargas death and the Exiles nonsense? I'm glad there is a focused effort to give her back her edge that comes from her "concentrated lethalness." Also, it gives her a chance to show her moves. Which is one thing that has been sorely lacking lately - when do we get to see her demonstrate her stunning kicks and "poetry in motion" that she used to personify? I do not like Dodson's Psylocke - he gives her a big square manly jaw, huge hips, and seems generally horse-like in general, as does most of his women. Bring back Acts of Vengeance Betsy. That was freakin awesome.

To be honest CC did in a way get fucked by Marvel when it comes to that vargas shit. I think he thought he had an ok for his story but I guess he didn't.

Having said that the whole story idea he had sucked big time anyway so the situation was beyond salvation anyway.

As far as the Exiles go, I guess I could see how an alternate nice guy version of Sabes might actually be a pretty nice and charismatic dude but to have Betsy going for him is just nuts.

FSaker said...

I actually enjoy Dodson's Psylocke. I don't think he gives her a manly jaw at all, he just draws her more "cartoon-ish" - maybe even "anime-ish". Land's Psylocke is the one that bothers me. And Choi's Psylocke is the best rendition of her since Jim Lee!

As for the Exiles, I actually liked her paired with AoA Sabes; for once, Claremont managed to put her in a relationship that was developed slowly and naturally - she first hated him, then started to respect him, then to like him, and finally to love him. But I don't mind that Fraction decided to undo this couple; I just wish any writer can explain in the future why she doesn't mind that she can't see her boyfriend and teammates anymore...

Psylocke's powers both telekinesis and telepathy are physical, which is best to explain that her psychic knife have the ability to affect physical matter the same way as her psycho blast did. Anyone but me getting the feeling that Invisible Woman looks just like Emma?

centurion said...

@Fsaker - I fully agree with what you said on June 1st. Whenever I turned the pages of X-Force, I said to myself that Choi is like a 2000's version of the 90's Jim Lee. Paquette's Psylocke also ranks as one of my favorites.

She loves flying, & now she can do it but she chooses not? But they should atleast show her flying around for relaxing & uses her ninja skills in battels. They should do an ongoing series about psylocke, showing her character more & her powers. But I also love the fact that her TK is unique. Back when she was flying like Superman ,it was cool but not so ninja. But they should show her moving things with her mind more often, like when she lifted x-23 in x-force. That was cool.
