Ultimate X-Men: Requiem

Ultimate X-Men: Requiem

Reeling from their unfathomable losses, the X-Men have returned home to honor the fallen and somehow gather strenght for what lies ahead. Jean Grey, Rogue, Iceman and Kitty say goodbye to their loved ones, pay homage to their memory and try to figure out what happens next.

Does anyone know why her clothes are all black in this issue? We can recognize her by her outfit, but I kinda like it better as the violet shirt and boots and white skirt... and it doesn't make much sense why Jean and the other survivors would change her clothes to the same uniform but black, instead of her actual uniform or more formal clothes...

Well, complaints aside, the obituary was great! It doesn't redeem the horrible, humiliating and out-of-character death Psylocke had (come on, she sacrificed her own life to stop Proteus, and then she cries of fear because of Stryker? It doesn't make sense, I'd expect her to die fighting her killers, not hiding and crying), but it's a nice first step towards it, as it remembers that Betsy died young, twice, but most of all, she died as a hero.

Farewell once again, Ultimate Betsy, I'm sure 616-Betsy would be very proud of you!

A well written and poignant eulogy of one of the best mutants to ever grace the pages of Ultimate X-Men! You will be dearly missed, Ultimate Psylocke. Who is the young mutant in the lower right-hand side of the first pane?

Best,

Wow. Very sad. I really loved this version. At least she wasn't killed by Slaymaster. Fsaker, I'm sure it was just a coloring error. It happens all the time. :)

Ok, it seems as though that mutant is Betsy, but you're right, Fsaker. Yes, why is she dressed in an all black outfit? Could it have been an unseen X-Men dress uniform? Perhaps, a formal, mortuary dress (as you mentioned)? It probably would have been awkard to bury Betsy in the purple outfit she is often seen wearing... I think the artists were probably seeking a darker motiff for this scene.

Anonymous, yeah, a coloring error is very possible.

Glad I don't read this anymore. Why did they change her Asian in this universe? She was fierce when she first appeared.

I loved this artist since his work on Authority and Ultimate X-Men, he is just amazing! The way the faces always look so cute. Hope to see him more often.

Anonymous #2, in the Ultimate universe Betsy's original body was possessed by Proteus, and then her mind was able to stop him for a while so the X-Men could kill him. Unfortunately, this also killed her body, but she was able to send her mind to the body of a young comatose Asian girl, thus staying alive.

Technically, I guess she became Asian in the Ultimate universe as well because, whether we like or not, her Asian look is more recognizable and popular than her British one. Nevertheless, I think the body swap in the Ultiverse at least makes sense, as she did it to save her life, instead of the whole mess we got in the 616-Universe...

I'm so sad that Ultimate Betsy is dead. She died twice. Hopefully she will alive again someday.
She's the master of bodyswap anyway.. ;)

You know, Metalgorgomon, it is possible. I was hoping for an Ultimate X-Men reboot. Time travel would be an asset here, especially since it could be used to save so many of the slain X-Men due to Ultimatum.

Metalgorgomon, it would be amazing if Ultimate Betsy's body died, but her consciousness survived somehow to be resurrected later. It has happened before with the Proteus incident, and there is no law that says it can't happen again. In regards to time travel, I remember in the Claremont days of the X-Men in the early 80s, several years prior to Psylocke's debut on the X-Men, Kitty Pryde traveled back in time to warn the X-Men about the dystopian future that was Days of Future Past. Oh well... I guess no savior from the future is going to avert the deaths of Ultimate Psylocke and the other famed Ultimate X-Men....
