Chicago Comic-Con 2009: X-Men Panel

Yost commented on the current state of Psylocke's abilities.....

Regarding confusion about Psylocke's current powers, Yost said his "Psylocke" mini in November would clear this up. "You'll get a very concrete answer as to what she can and cannot do," Yost said. As to whether she'd appear in "X-Force," "you're definitely going to want to read the Psylocke miniseries to see what direction she'll be going in."

Let's hope that this means she can appear in both Uncanny and X-Force by the end of this! No preview art was released unfortunately.

Yost also commented on Psylocke's previous role with the Exiles..

Psylocke's role with the dimension-hopping New Exiles will not be addressed in Yost's miniseries, he said, "but I wouldn't be surprised to see it revisted someday."

I am glad that there seems to be a determined effort by high profile Marvel writers to clarify much of the confusion surrounding Betsy's power set. I think this is an excellent first step in re-establishing Psylocke's character for a newer generation of X-Men fans (and the olders ones too) and giving her a sense of renewed uniqueness in the Marvel Universe.

This is unrelated to this discussion, but I found this rare, one of a kind Psylocke figure on ebay. It is a Sideshow Collectibles Psylocke figure that is being auctioned on ebay. I looked at some of the images on the auctioneer's page. Not bad. Here is a link for those who are interested:

I prefer that Psylocke stays in Uncanny, but makes appearances in X-Force.

It seems Yost may is going to address the darker side of Psylocke. I really hope she joins X-Force.

I'd love to see Psylocke being a recurring character in the X-Force series, but not as a team member. Although Betsy can be a cold-blooded killer sometimes, that's not who she really is.

And it's nice to know her time with the Exiles may be addressed in the future! I mean, she spent a lot of time with them, she faced many dangers with them, she became friends with all of them, and even found a lover in AoA-Sabretooth. Even if they broke up before she was summoned by the Red Queen's spell, I would assume Betsy would be very worried about her friends from the Crystal Palace (a.k.a. Sage)...

Yes, Fsaker, you are right. I think she fits best with Uncanny right now, as she has been for years. If I am not mistaken, but wasn't the conflict between Bets and Sage unresolved? I stopped reading Exiles after Betsy left.

It would be interesting to see Betsy and X-23 interact again in a future X-Force issue (or series of issues) as they had in Uncanny several years ago.

While Psylocke doesn't enjoy killing, she's always done what is necessary to get the job finished.

Yeah... I really want the Exiles loose ends to be tied up. The last thing Betsy needs is another mystery of the unexplained ala "switched powers with Jean."

Same here, Soultapestry. I enjoyed Betsy's tour of duty with the New Exiles. At times, it had its moments. I don't recall New Exiles ever explaining how Betsy had acquired the ability to fly. Maybe Claremont wanted to present the New Exiles realm as one where bizzare things can happen to a hero's powers. Seeing Betsy flying in New Exiles was awkward to say the least. However, it is possible that Claremont could have written a New Exiles story where Betsy swaped powers with an alternate reality version of Jean, which would have explained where those powers originated from in the first place.

ermmm doesnt she fly using telepathy, i swear that was addressed during the revolution days???

centurion said...

Gosh, I don't remember, Psychilde. You may be right...

She showed telekinetic flight during Revolution...
But is weird seeing a ninja flying.
I hope they manage well the tk powers, because she is a psychic ninja... I had hopes of her loosing tk and getting huge tp, but Fraction dissapointed me a lot.
We just want her in a cool revamp of her famous ninja suit, butterfly signature, lethal kicks, original uses for her tp and the famous psyknife. As well forget New Exiles era and telekinetic powers.
