X-Babies by Todd Nauck

1. Todd Nauck has always drawn a good butterfly power signature.

2. I think he was the only artist to ever portray Betsy’s psi-self as the butterfly while in Kwannon’s body. Usually during her time in that body, her psi-self looked like Kwannon versus her butterfly.

I loved the Outback team and I put it at the top of the best X-Men incarnations. Claremont was firing on all cylinders till the Siege Perilous arc. Teacher Magneto, Kvch and Technarchy, The Mojoworld, The X-Babies, Excalibur, the Reavers, the Marauders, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Freedom Force, the Goblin Queen. the Genoshan Magistrates, the Muir X-team, Masque, the Alley and many I forget to mention.

Todd Nauck knows full well to whom the butterfly signature belongs and her name is Betsy Braddock. History was written when Betsy was forged by Mojo into Psylocke in 1986 years before Kwannon was contrived as plot device. Therefore the butterfly is the emblem of Betsy no matter how many code names she changes.

I agree. I don't understand why they took it away from her to seemingly give it to Kwannon. It's annoying enough that Kwannon possesses Betsy's powerset when they already mentioned she had her own empathic abilities.

X-Man I'm wondering the same. I've tried many times to ask your question to people who are in charge of the X-Men but they avoid to answer. They appear complacent with the confusion because they have their heads stuck in their somewhere south and dark.

If editors listened to what fans have to say about predicaments like the body swap and the separation of Betsy from Kwannon things would be solved easily. It's not showing disdain for an Asian character rather concern because Kwannon will lose the little identity she had by taking the legacy of Betsy the real Psylocke and all the iconography that defines Betsy Braddock.

Betsy is the woman with the mutant power of telepathy, precognition and telekinetic constructs. Kwannon on the other hand is a low level empath and can't have had augmented her telepathy simply by a British woman living in her body for those powers came from Betsy's soul and not from Kwannon's genome.

There are plenty of solutions for Kwannon's powers like empathic manipulation and pathokinesis similar to Manuel De la Rocha. To make her original Marvel has to find her a name and bring back the crimson dawn that upgraded the ninja aspect with shadow-porting.

When they made the split I wish Betsy kept the TP and Kwannon kept the TK since the TK manifested while in Kwannon's body. Plus if you sit down and count the amount of telepaths on Krakoa we could've done without Kwannon being a telepath but I know how much Cebulski loves Kwannon so whatever.

@randybear,
Maybe her favor from Essex will be removal of her telepathy? It would be a nice switch if she decides she hates that power. Maybe she'll ask him to undo any genetic splicing that Spiral/Rita did. Or maybe I'm just wishfully thinking. LOL. If she must be telepathic, I'm curious to see if she'll use it to the degree that Action Junkie Bets did immediately after the change when she was basically only knifing folks in the head or if she'll move on from that as Betsy did when Betsy got back to using her telepathy in interesting ways WHICH I HOPE TINI DOES WITH HER.

It's too bad Krakoa doesnt allow precognition it would've been nice for Betsy to reclaim that since Kwannon got mostly everything else in the divorce. Can we at least get the psycho blast back? I hope we dont just see Betsy relying on super strength and flight from her CB suit.

@randy,
I wonder if Hickman and Howard forgot that Betsy has precognitive abilities. Apparently, since Disassembled so does Jean. LOL. However, Betsy was long established as precog despite how involuntary her flashes were. And I too hope we don' just see her using her sword and shield. The sword seems capable of both telepathy and telekinesis as she used it both ways in Disassembled.

Thank you for asking. It just seems so annoying to me lol. The woman has her own previously mentioned abilities and identity. Let them both be their own people.

Betsy also used the psi knife in Disassembled, I wonder if she'll still use it from time to time or it's all Kwannon now (who ironically used a psychic sword when she was in Betsy's body lol).

@X-Man, randybear, Rahsaan I hope the divorce creates a clean slate for both women and allows Betsy to keep her TK weaponry.

Betsy had her psionic materialization awakened by the shock and trauma of the body swap. Scientists believe that the soul and brain adapt to new environments. Inside the Asian body Betsy was able to unlock her power of psionic energy manipulation due to the anger she felt at everyone and anything for the crime against her.

Last year Betsy's psionic manipulation evolved further when Betsy was sucked into the body of mutant Sapphire Styx. Sapphire Styx's necromancer energy was responsible for Betsy managing to recreate her biological body and surpass the ability to create simple weapons.

randybear I echo your sentiments on Betsy using her original abilities like psychoblasts and precognition. It's inevitable for Betsy not to use some powers from the Amulet of Right like super strength and flight. Although Betsy can fly on her own by using her telekinesis or float at least.

I guess the butterfly is too feminine for Tini's taste. She seems to prefer a masculine Betsy

The first X-Babies appeared in Uncanny X-Men Annual 10 where Mojo changed the X-Men into children. In Uncanny X-Men Annual 12 the X-Babies were manufactured child clones and Psylocke's X-Baby clone had the pink uniform with puffy sleeves.

Another instance where the butterfly effect shows who its real master is. History erasure isn't a simple thing for Marvel. Given that Claremont's run is still the most iconic for the X-Men. So Betsy will always be remembered as the original Psylocke with the butterfly iconography.
