Oh god, that was hilarious. He is taking advice from Apocalypse to eliminate all forms of beliefs. I guess the point of this story is that all religion is crazy where it does not comply to reasoning or scientific solutions.

Wow... lol. Also, I see @Stephen W using the Avatar I created, NICE!
I'm not sure about Uncanny, As much as I love Psylocke, might have to wait for the trade to pick up the rest.

That is some great artwork! It actually makes Psylocke actually looks good :P
Still waiting to see Kwannon back in action with her though.

Most importantly, Storm is being written in leadership role, which is where she belongs!

randybear said...

Stephen I'm just glad someone finally colored her costume right!! Lol

randybear said...

I'd rather Kwannon did her own thing instead of people staying confused with who's really who etc Also they dont NEED to have adventures together. Theybfucking hated 3ach other and all theybdodnt was bicker. Kwannon was a total bitch with zero personality I'd rather we just leave her alive in limbo. The XMen has tons of under utilized Asian characters that are NOT ninjas that they could give more attention to than Kwannon the dragon lady assassin.

FSaker said...

I agree. Armor and Surge could use some attention (well, Armor is already getting some attention in the UXM relaunch).

But if people really need an Asian female ninja in the X-Men, all Marvel needs to do is to have Yukio joining the team. They could even make her hair longer to make her similar to Kwannon. I'd rather have that than to see Kwannon back.

And I don't even like Yukio.

Rahsaan said...

Kwannon is a plot-device and all played out. If she must live, she should do so in her own pocket of the Marvel Universe. Perhaps within the Avengers, since she was made up to retcon a Mandarin story. To be frank, the character would be respected more if Mavel left her dead and in the afterlife with her lover, Matsu'o. She never had any real characterization and there are a slew of characters within the X-Men family who have the follow traits that we could write for:

1. From the Asian continent
2. Have martial arts skills
3. Have psychic abilities

I hope that we never see Kwannon in the pages of the X-Men again. She is superfluous.

Rahsaan said...

I meant to add that there while many characters only possess one or two of the traits above simultaneously (if not all), that is okay. We have a full roster of literally over 100 characters who actually have been written with personalities that can be rotated in and out without any more hack writing involving Kwannon. Kwannon is a hack story.

randybear said...

I agree! I think character's likes Surge, Armor, Sunfire all have really interesting back story that's a little more humanizing than Kwannon being a deadly assassin who was submissive to MatsuO in every way

Rahsaan said...

I miss Psylocke's butterfly with eyes astral form. An artist, Nauckk did use it recently in the Nightcrawler mini. I hope they bring it back.

And the elusive psycho-blast.

X-Man said...

@Rahsaan did she use the psycho blast in Uncanny X-Force? It seemed as if she used it to knock Warren/Apocalypse over. I dont think it was TK since she never used it in that book before or after that scene.

Rahsaan said...

Yes. That was like the last time she used it. Remender confirmed she used a psycho-blast to beat Warren.

I mean the people who preferred Asian Psylocke could argue just as hard as you folks who are in support of an energy-based replica of the original running around.
I would think that Kwannon and Psylocke would have reached some degree of common ground since they have been connected for literally decades. But that may be hard for some to consider since the Mystery in Madripoor miniseries treated Kwannon's body like a piece of garbage being thrown away, when that was the home of Psylocke's essence through decades of fighting for mutant kind.
Asian Psylocke was not just some dragon lady stereotype, there was a complex aspect to the character given the relationship between Psylocke and Kwannon, mind and body. She was complex, and now she is Jean Grey 2.0.

X-Man said...

Thanks. I thought so, but wasn't 100 percent sure.

Rahsaan said...

Kwannon is a shell of a character. A husk. She added only confusion and chaos to the Psylocke mythos. Anything more is a reach.

Rahsaan said...

As for disrespect, Psylocke’s original body was disrespected most of all by Matt Fraction and Chris Yost. The most disrespectful thing to happen to the Kwannon body was Elizabeth letting Fantomex stick his peen in it and stupidly engaging Sabretooth and Vargas in one on one combat to be gutted boty times. KwannonLocke was the queen or asinine choices.

X-Man said...

When Kwannon died she returned Betsy's telepathy to her that she had acquired, but in addition to that she also took away all of her influences and personal traits (hence the more sensual personality towards Scott or probably the reason she donned the thong outfit in the first place) so that Betsy could be as whole as possible as herself. The only connection they had from that moment she did that, was Betsy just wearing her body as one would wear a coat. There is no "Asian" Betsy imo. There's white Betsy who was trapped in another woman's body and then there's white Betsy who resembles her actual self. Whether she's Jean 2.0 is debatable (I certainly don't agree), but it certainly would be a case of the writers and not her appearance. One doesnt suddenly become complex or not complex just based on if they appear to be a certain ethnicity or not. I think she actually seems more on Jean's level in this series. I still remember when the comics actually did go out their way to show she wasn't on the same level, like that stupid issue when Jean had a faceoff with Sabretooth. Moira showed a video of Betsy trying to give him "the glow" and he grabs her, basically tosses her about and tells her he knows she wasn't good enough to do it and wants Jean. Then here comes Jean literally calling herself an atom bomb and basically owns him. I'll take a Betsy/Jean dynamic written like this current comic any day over that.

X-Man said...

@Rahsaan ITA with your comments. I'll never understand why she was fighting Sabretooth hand to hand instead of telepathically from a distance. His powers are friggen physical lol.

Rahsaan said...

Because Hand Psylocke was written as an “action junkie” idiot. Pre-Siege, she literally knew to fry Sabretooth telepathically during Inferno. I think that thong oufit cut off circulation to her brain.

Psylocke is too big of a character to be in the body that she is in now.
She was read as Asian by readers, so she was Asian.
Also, Kwannon shouldn't be back in her original body now. That makes no sense how she came back out of nowhere. Then again Betsy's new body literally came out of nowehere, so I guess logic doesn't matter here.

She was a pop culture icon as a Ninja. Most people aren't even going to know that she is back to being white because less people read the comics due to poor editorial decisions, like the entire Mystery in Madripoor miniseries where this whole mess started.
Mainstream audiences don't even know about Psylocke's history, or if they do, only a rare few engage with it at all.

They can easily reverse the change of body, and they should.
Ninja characters can have depth too.

Toffnut said...

Just because Kwannon was written badly before doesn't mean she doesn't have a chance to blossom into her own character in the hands of a capable writer.

Of course, she's going to have to have some sort of visual overall to distance her from being formerly Psylocke's visage. But I do feel like she has a lot of potential to become her own character. And it is also a chance for another Asian character (in her proper Asian body) to make a dent in the scene.

Written well, and given enough time, people will forget she and Psylocke were once intertwined.

Toffnut said...

Visual overhaul*

X-Man said...

She still can be a ninja and is. She still has those skills, (they are just showing she has other skills and is so much more than just that imo) there is no rule that says only Asian people can be ninja (or Asian appearing since she wasn't really Asian). I started reading her when she was in the other body. I figured out the background. It wasn't that hard lol. Usually someone (either crazy friend or foe, or the Kwannon storyline itself, or Sisterhood etc etc...which is how I actually figured out her past and actually inspired me to go back and read) would come along and dangle the original body for her or taunt her about being an identity confused person. Quite often actually to the point it became very tiring. If readers really were reading her all this time she was this "iconic" ninja, there isnt really any way they cant have figured out by now she was really a white english woman that was forced into another person's body without any say in the matter lol. If they haven't been fans like I believe all of us here are, then sorry to be blunt, but who cares if they realize she changed back or not? Even people who dont read every story (goodness knows I cant afford to lol) usually keep up with their fave characters. I don't want to keep one of my fave characters trapped in someone else's body just cause John Doe who doesnt really even read her, cant recognize her without her thong on lol.

Rahsaan said...

Yes. She could do well as an Avenger or an Exile or GoG. She has no place with the X-Men. As she will continue to be a prop to Psylocke.

Rahsaan said...

She should not even be telepathic or telekinetic if she lives.

randybear said...

It's not that Kwannon CANT be written into something more it's that readers are acting like she HAS a personality or character to explore. My point is theres no loss if the character disappears again shes a blank slate and all that's really confirmed about her is that shes a high rank Japanese ASSASSIN HELLOOOOO

So my point is we ALREADY have established Asian characters that are NOT stereotypes that we could explore a lot more but we haven't. We got Armor, Sunfire, Jubilee, Karma, Surge, Sprite and I'm sure I'm missing more, that could be utilized.

We dont need Kwannon for that major reason and also for the fact that we dont need MORE Psylocke and Kwannon story arcs. No one liked the original arc why continue that mess?

It's ironic that the original body haters before the revert would use the argument that the body swap was a mess etc and why go back etc and now all the Asianlockes are like.. "omg we need kwannon and psylocke stories together!" Suddenly it's not confusing? OKAY!

Missed you guys!

If Marvel does not fully develop and flesh-out Kwannon as a legitimate character in her own right *within* the X-Men comics, this will likely be regarded as a missed opportunity to correct *the other half* of their mistake. Giving Betsy back her original body is only a partial correction. They can't fix this properly by moving her *out of mind and out of sight* relative to the X-Men stories where she originally appeared. If they do that, I do think it will be seen as rather tone deaf and (probably) racist, and a continued embarrassment on how this was all handled.

Kwannon's story really warrants a resolution in the X-Men comics, and written well this time.

I know that Rahsaan feels strongly the other way, and voices his opinion here strongly (Hai Rahsaan!), but fan opinions are varied, many of them are to the contrary of what appears to be the most voiced opinion here (and likely, the opposite is more popular in terms of numbers of fans on other social media - "most-voiced" is not necessarily the "most-popular").

On another note, I really hope the Betsy-Warren thing can be done with and that we can move on. She's too good for him!!!

Hi, AO.

Kwannon is not the othet half. Betsy was a whole character already. Kwannon was created to be a throwaway.

I do agree with you on Warren. I was never a fan of he and Betsy and found their bond during the Kwannon saga a bit forced. I actually liked Warren more with Candy and Charlotte Jones, the policewoman.

Rahsaan said...

@AO,
I also freely admit that my tastes differ from a lot of the fans on other forums as I think 90s and 00s X-Men stories pale in comparison to 80s X-Men. A lot of Kwannon-Psylocke fans also love the animated series and the cheesecake factor the books had in the 90s and 00s, which I respect, but find uninteresting.

Unknown said...

Hi Rahsaan, re: Kwannon, just saw that you wrote, "She should not even be telepathic or telekinetic if she lives."

But she does live: she was shown alive and well at the conclusion of Mystery in Madripoor. She also manifested the psychic knife, so she has either or both of those abilities.

I know you want to distance yourself from the embarrassment of the whole mess that was created in the 90s, possibly by lobbying aggressively here for what you'd like to see transpire in the comics, but I think we need to acknowledge what happened in Mystery in Madripoor, the storyline that was used as a device to give her back her original body (and now give Kwannon back hers).

Hi Rahsaan,

Re: your comment, "Kwannon is not the othet half. Betsy was a whole character already. Kwannon was created to be a throwaway."

No, Kwannon and Betsy are not halves. But the editorial decision to interwine them during the Acts of Vengeance arc was a singular editorial decision. The resolution to that decision requires a resolution for both Betsy and Kwannon, now. Without a proper, developed, fleshed-out Kwannon, that singular mistake is still unresolved. In that sense, Kwannon's story is the important "other half" of fixing that decision. That is not to say that Kwannon is Betsy's other half, which I would agree, is not the case.

Let's first acknowledge that the only reason why Psylocke is marketable in her current form is because she looks exactly the same as Asian Psylocke, but with a different face. Betsy never wore a simple spandex suit with long-flowing, straight purple hair and she didn't have an energy kitana prior to the body swap. Some artists are still drawing her with Asian-like traits because they can't let go of the former Psylocke.

@Toffnut: That is exactly what I mean! We can't just throw away Kwannon as if she or her being didn't exist. She and Psylocke have a deeply connected bond after their complex past, and if they are going to resolve any historical mistakes in storytelling, you need both characters to do that. I think that there is still a chance that they might reverse their decision.

@Rahsaan: You are deciding not to use your thinking skills. You know that Kwannon is a pivotal part of Psylocke's history and deserves to be recognized as more than a shell.

@X-Man: It's cute that you are so devoted to the older comics, but the character earned a pop culture spotlight over a decade ago, when she was a ninja psychic. If you have read any comics from the past few years like us John Doe's have, you would see that Asian Psylocke is more than just a thong. She carried the burden of what was done to her, and used her pain to become an omega-level mutant. She also lead her own X-Men team, took on Magneto by herself, established relationships with many mutants at the Xavier school, and found common ground with Spiral after the role that she played in the body swap. Maybe this is hard to see because you are too busy trying to win over Rahsaan.

@Australian Outback: you make a fantastic point! Kwannon and Betsy are not halves, but they were layers of the same character. Their stories are intertwined and must both be addressed in order for this new story to feel established. Also, some of the people on here do think that they are right just because they think they own the conversation :P

@CMX: Yes, there are other Asian characters that could receive more attention, but to date they haven't. They haven't even had major leading roles except for Jubilee and that's not cool. If Psylocke was in an Asian body, then she was Asian. If her mind is British because she grew up in particular place, then can't it change due to being in a different body for so long?

X-Man said...

@Unknown first off I dont get the logic of telling us Betsy never had spandex or energy based weapons before. She has learned a lot through the years. A lot of us feel this is the culmination of "classic" and "Asian" Betsy. Utilizing all the skills and knowledge she's attained through the years. Shes not going to put on her old outfit and stop doing psi weapons simply because her birth appearing face has returned. Lol How am I trying to win over Rahsaan? I have similar opinions and agree with him. That's about it. Not here for winning anyone over. What's actually cute is you attempting to act like that's the motivation for my statements and being dismissive of my opinions in the process. I've stated all the stories I've read with her in it. So no need to tell me about them. Not sure how her pain turned her into an Omega mutant, pretty sure that Aoa Jean helped with that. I dont really remember her leading a team but guess it's possible I missed that. I know when Rogue was briefly made team leader, Betsy basically turned it down due to her not being in full control of her TK. I actually thought "classic" Betts was more team leader at times. I know "asian" Betsy is more than a thong lol. I was a fan of her in both forms (what I'm not a fan of is a character being stuck in another woman's body not by choice). I also started reading her as the "Asian" Betsy". What I said was that all of us on HERE (that would include you) were fans of her. The post I was replying to said that fans know her as "Asian" and wouldn't know she returned to her original form or essentially recognize her. I stated that for years there was one story or another that involved her original body, whether by statement, some form of bribery, storyline, taunting etc etc. So by that logic, most of us real fans would know she was really an English white woman who was forcibly put into another woman's body without any say in the matter by now cause the story was never dropped. Whether we like her returning or not is a matter of opinion. I said that I didn't care if any John Doe (aka someone who'd only looking at her but not actually reading/following her story) cant recognize without her thong. The fact that you decided to put yourself in that group of people, after my statement basically was basically excluding you from it tells me all I need to know about your logic and reading abilities. If your reading the comics in the same manner you read these posts, no wonder we have such different opinions.

@Echo, common ground with Spiral in the same series where she was rueful over having her old body tease to her by Cassandra and where she was cursing like a sailor every other panel. The latter being crucial character evolution. Yes. We most certainly remember.

And Kwannon has no persona at all. The only emotion the character has ever displayed is anger. Readers have no reason to be invested in the woman other than as a tool in Psylocke’s story. The character should rest in peace. 💜

Rahsaan said...

I’d rather Matsu’o be resurrected over Kwannon. He at least is multilayered. Both should rest in peace though.

Rahsaan said...

Also, for many years, Carol Denvers (who actually was not a husk) was inseparable from Rogue. Now both have moved on. Thought to be perfectly honest, if there were no Binary and it the remaining life force of Carol was the one killed by Erik in the Savage Land, I would have been fine with that the way I am fine with Kwannon not returning. Also, Carol while part of the X-Men for a time during her Binary phase has moved on. Kwannon can move on as well to the Avengers or wherever. 😂

Vigmed said...

You all are so damn inconsiderate.

First, I think I need a bit of fan service from this reborn Psylocke. Her personality was fully restored over twenty years ago and she still chose to dress the way she did and act the way she acted. That was all her. Not Kwannon. Now show me the goods, girl and go jump kick someone the way you know we like it.

That said, you should know that my dear, sweet, precious, Kwannon, would never dress that way or do some of the horrible things Psylocke has done. Sure, she would occasionally assassinate a person but that was the job that paid the bills. Get the assignment. Kill the target. Keep it secret. Kwannon was no mass murderer that enjoyed killing, like Psylocke did. Ugh, and now the whole world knows her face to be a "superhero" and worse, a mutant!

Now that Kwannon is finally back in her body she has to deal with this mess that Psylocke left her in. I can only imagine the sickening feeling of being restored into this body that is biologically yours, but not feeling right after the years of repeated abuse it was put through.

And Psylocke? Clean slate, brand new body. Probably even a virgin again, the slut.

Kwannon is the true victim here. #KwannonDoesMatter

Now give me a Kwannon revenge story!

@Vigmed, true. We are extremely inconsiderate of Kwannon since some of us have no emotional investment in her.

Your idea could work, but revenge on who? Spiral? Spiral is the only person alive who Kwannon should want to
hurt. Matsu’o is dead. Mandarin is dead. She can have a mini-series where she goes after Spiral (which would be kinda like a copy of Psylocke’s revenge mini, and would do nothing to distinguish her as anything different from Elizabeth) and that story can be completely separate from the X-Men as they have all moved on. I would support that if Betsy and the X-Men are far removed from it and it takes place at the Body Shoppe in Mojo’s Wildways, and is self-contained. 😀

Rahsaan said...

Also, note that anothet revenge story keeps the character in her default singular expression of anger that was all we really got to know about her during her brief time. Perhaps the story yoiu propose could show more, but Psylocke and the Xs have move on, so again, it might be better to have this be a solo tale of Kwannon and Spiral unpacking their drama. Though I belive Spiral has also probably moved on and would tell Kwannon she doesn’t care for any drama. 😀

Rahsaan said...

Now a revenge story that might be more interesting to see involving Spiral/Rita. Would be Rachel. Claremont was planning to tell us what happened to Rachel when Spiral kidnapped her and took her to the Body Shoppe and then she became a slave of Mojo before escaping to London. Alas, Rachel's solo mini was scrapped and never came to pass. Really though, I find Mojo to be a rather dull villain. I loved him as a kid, but I think that was due to giving us Longshot and Spiral. I'd be really curious to see all those characters never have anything to do with Mojo again. The Mojoverse can cease to exist and I'd be cool with that.

Like I said, Kwannon wanting revenge on anyone else other than Spiral at this point would be a stretch. If she comes back angry at and trying to hurt Betsy, that would be illogical based on how they ended. And I'm much more curious to see what Spiral is up to after unpacking some of her damage in that terrible X-Force run we got with her. Spiral is a dope character and I'd be curious to see what might happen if her anity was fully restored and we got a reconciled Rita back using her warped body and bestowed magic to do some good in the world. Or at least, if she wanted to stay bad, seeing what that might look like if she was a sane Rita.

That might all sound wack to y'all though.

Vigmed said...

While I think I made some valid points it was only a joke posting lol

It is only a matter of time before they do a Betsy vs Kwannon book. Before that happens I think we'll see them pair up.

Psylocke will always be my favorite Star Sapphire!

Rahsaan said...

@Vigmed, I pray they don't do a Betsy vs. Kwannon story. Kwannon would be a fool as she knows the truth and if they have her forget it, that will be wack. LOL. Then again, you are right and we know Marvel loves a bad story. LOL.

Also, it will be wack if we do see Kwannon again and she is still rocking the purple hair. The only reason she had that was, because the hair was dyed purple by Matsu'o and the Hand and later on by Elizabeth. If they really want o differentiate this character she needs her own power set, power signature and aesthetic. Other wise, she will be the Asian female version of Joseph who eventually was also superfluous. :-)

Rahsaan said...

@Vigmed, I was gonna call your arc "The Dark Kwannon Saga." LMAO.

Psylocke and Kwannon shared a body for like a year in real time, then she died, and Jamie remade her in a nu mixed body, he also remade an English white body on Other World.
