The art looks great for Psylocke’s book, including her power signature.

Nightcrawler looks so weird on that cover hahaha and Cykes pamper needs to be changed.

Psylocke however looks kawaii af and the butterfly looks so nice!

@CmX, she and Northstar do look super cute amd I actually prefer their uniforms here to their regular uniforms. I always prefer uniforms that look more like
functional street clothes than tights.

As for Nightcrawler... It looks like will finally give Meggan that blue d.

Northstar’s fade is tight.

Hahah my thoughts exactly. I thought at first glance it was by Greg Land

I hate to disagree...she does look cute in her street clothes but there is something about her new costume that I can see artists making their own interpretations of it. I want an off the shoulder feminine moment.

It seems AoXM will be quite messy... oh well.

As for UXM, wow... that's not exactly what I would call an A-list team (although it's great to see Moonstar back!). But maybe this is just a temporary replacement team, kinda like the Muir Island X-Men back when the Outback team disbanded. Then again, I wouldn't mind some of these people (Moonstar, Magik, Hope Summers, Madrox) becoming permanent additions to the current X-Men - as long as Betsy, Ororo, Kurt et al are still in the team as well.

@Unknown,I think the uniforms here are street clothes-like in not looking cartoonish and look realistic, like the Morrison/Quietly era ones, but more stylish. Even though, I like some of the curent uniforms, like Storm, X-23, and Psylocke's, I am not a fan of others', like Jubilee, DEFINITELY JEAN, Northstar, Polaris, Nightcrawler, Iceman,Bishop, and Cannonball's. Most of the team. LOL.

I love he one in this new Psylokce-led AOXM book, because the look tactical, adult, and have team uniformity while being individual stylized.

I love when Betsy is dressed femininely and fashionable, and like when we see her do so out of uniform. Though of late, when we see her out of uniform in Uncanny, she looks like a slob, much unlike the fly, super stylish dresses and catsuits, etc. that she wore in the 80s when she first came to the mansion. She dressed like a fashionable Brit would versus looking like a Bushwick, Brooklyn or Shoreditch, London hipster as many of these renderings I see of her online of late have her. LOL.

As for the roster on the Cyke/Wolvie cover, I would love to see all of those characters featured heavily again. Just not with those cartoony costumes. Save for the updated hooded Warlock who I preferred in his X-Factor run that the old incarnation that always was so damn goofy.

FSaker, Danielle is one of Marvel's best characters. Like Ororo, she is a beast even without powers. Though, I think 'Ro got way more love when she was powerless and still heavily featured as prominent lead. I do think it's past time that Dani got her powers back.

Also, I'd love to have Roberto,Doug, Rictor, and Rahne back in the fold. I'd love to seethe New Mutants back as part of the team as adults and let the New class with Pixie, Hisako, etc. remain students for now. Also, would love for Prodigy to return and share some panel time with the other non-hetero characters, like Northstar and Iceman. I often think it would be cool if the X-Men more frequently tackled the intersectionality, like Prodigy talking to adults, like Storm, Sunspot, Dr. Reyes, Monet, and Frenzy on what it's like being a mutant and of African descent. Or him talking to adults, like Northstar and Iceman about being a non-hetero mutant. Or Sooraya and Monet talking about being mulism women and mutants. I'm also glad that we have Trinary who I dig since she all the other Indian characters, like Karima and Thunderbird 3 are in limbo.

Okay. Sorry, y'all. That was one of my tangents. Just typing all my current thoughts on how the X-Men could be more adult and relevant. LOL. Which is why I dig the current conversation with Nate Grey and Apocalypse around the social construct of religion.

Rahsaan said...

Also, is that Rachel and Hope on the last cover? I was certain Marvel had pretty much shelved both now that Big Red is back from the dead and the HBIC of the team.

Alex said...

@Rahsaan

I think my favorite uniforms will always be the Morrison era costumes. Then again I came into the comics around that time as a kid so I might be biased. Would've loved to see Betsy in one of the redesigned New X-Men uniforms. I believe that's Hope on the right behind Scott. The zombie looking thing is Banshee. He was left infected/kinda undead from Apocalypses' death seed. Beast was treating him in Astonishing and he seemed to finally get some control of himself at the end.

FSaker said...

Rahsaan, I agree, Moonstar is awesome! It would be nice if she got her powers back (after all, even Jubilee got hers, and she was not only depowered but also turned into a vampire), but if she doesn't, well, she's very competent without them anyway.

As for your idea, it's not only great, but the current UXM book is making me think the writers could make a huge roster work. You may remember that Fraction already had this idea in his run - problem is, he focused too much on few characters (Cyclops, Emma, Beast, Magneto) and everyone else was barely used.

Regarding the last cover, Hope is in it, but the hairy person next to her seems to be Wolfsbane, not Rachel. The final Extermination issue showed that Rachel is still under Ahab's control (the only X-Man who Jean wasn't able to save) and escaped with him from the X-Men.

Rahsaan said...

Alex and FSaker,

Thanks for that info. I didn’t realize that Banshee had been infected by the death seed, but which explains why he is the way he is in Adtonishing where I started reading.

Regarding Extermination... I’m behind on that book, but I okay with Rachel’s departure. She was only ever designed to be a Jean fill-in. Even back in the 80s. And since they don’t seem to ever want to explore her chronoskimmimg power that adds something more to her, she can go. I’m actually over most of the time travel stories and characters.

I thought that was Rachel with hound tattoos. If it is Rahne, even better!

Rahsaan said...

FSaker,

A big ensemble cast that focuses on various characters through different arcs and rotates the entire cast from background supporting to forefront lead over many arcs would be great and an excellent way for us to see favorites we rarely do like Cecilia, Cypher, Northstar, Magma, Longshot. I’d dig it.

Rahsaan said...

Also,FSaker...

I just looked up scans from Extermination No. 5. Jeans seems all smitten with Kid Cable and like she couldn't give a single fuck about Rachel being a hound again. LOL.

Was there a panel where she was remotely sad about the Starchilde's being Ahab's goon again?

FSaker said...

Yeah, poor Rachel is constantly ignored by Jean, since the first time they met... though to be fair, Jean helped raise Cable, but Rachel was already an adult when they met. Plus, when Jean absorbed Madelyne in Inferno, she probably absorbed her motherly feelings for Cable (even though Maddy almost killed him for power), but she doesn't have the memories from the alternate Jean who gave birth to Rachel.

I love Rachel (more than Jean, actually), but to be honest, sometimes I've been wondering if it wouldn't be better to just send her back to her timeline like the teen O5 than keeping her in the present with no purpose like she's been for quite a while. Thanks to Secret Wars' multiverse reboot, it's possible that her future exists again, so she could be like DBZ's Trunks and decide to go back to her timeline and save it herself. She could eventually return to the present when (and ONLY when) Marvel has a real purpose for her, other than replacing Jean whenever she's unavailable.

---

By the way, speaking of Cable, I thought this young Cable could be the son of young Scott and young Jean conceived before they returned to their timeline and erased from their memories, but it seems he's exactly the same Cable we always knew. Which means that when he becomes old, he's destined to be murdered by himself while he's still young. Confusing? A little, yes. Creepy? A LOT.

@Alex V.W, I also love the Morrison era uniforms (in fact, I'd love the X-Men to wear uniforms that look more casual than the typical spandex or cinematic superhero costumes; that would even help to make them stand out from the other superheroes). But as for Betsy getting one of those uniforms back then, well... Storm got to wear one in an arc of X-Treme X-Men (where she visited the X-Mansion and teamed up with Emma Frost), and it looked quite bad on her.

I'd say all X-Men back then were looking nice; while the Morrison team looked more casual, Claremont's and Joe Casey's teams looked more action-oriented yet also stylish (I love how Psylocke, Storm and Rogue looked back then, and Iceman's uniform was the best he ever had). And the visual contrast between the teams was interesting, too, like when the X-Men and the X-Factor met in the Muir Island Saga.

Rahsaan said...

FSaker,
Speaking of the Dazzler, how are you enjoying Astonishing?

FSaker said...

I'm not.

...I mean, I stopped following Astonishing after the arc with Betsy ended, so I can't tell if Dazzler's arc is good or bad. But I know some people that are following it and they say that, while they prefer the first arc, the current one is still enjoyable, so...

Rahsaan said...

FSaker,

I'm actually enjoying the current arc more than the last one.

As for Rachel, I agree that she is not used and should go.Jewel and I are dicussing this on this blog's Facebook page and she had a great idea for Ray. However, I am more inclined to think that instead either of your ideas work for the character or if not, she should just be killed and let the fallout affect charcaters who are close to her, like Kitty, Scott, Kurt, Meggan, Brian, Betsy, Ororo, Anna.

Again, aside from Salvador Larroca, a group of artists that no one has ever heard of. I would love it if Marvel stopped using their best artist and writers only on Avengers books and show the X-men some love again. Hopefully this will start to happen after the merger is all done and dusted. I just started Marvel Unlimited and if you compare Avengers and X-men books over the last five years or so there is a major difference in quality.
