It is so nice too see Betsy as a tutor for the younger mutants. Specially after Wolverine had her out of Jean Grey school. In fact, she hasn't met him after that yet, as Storm and Cable's team do not interact with Wolverine directly, but this is a meeting I am really eager to see.
She could be shown teaching them martial arts too.

I'm not sure if we'll have any opportunity to see her interacting with Wolverine so soon, since he will be dying in few months. And although Betsy was always close to him, it seems the writers at Marvel will ignore that to make him interact with other people instead (like X-23, Kitty, Jubilee, etc.).

As for Psylocke teaching the young mutants how to defend themselves, yes, that would be cool. In fact, had Wood stayed in this book, I guess he would show it happening, as he's been giving more attention to the young X-Men in the latest issues, but I'm not sure if Guggenheim (or whoever will come after him, assuming this book won't be cancelled when he leaves) will ever show that.

Elizabeth and James have talked since her dismissal. The had a long conversation via psychic rapport in Uncanny X-Force after
Bishop's return and prior to the Owl Queen revelation.

Yes I meant exactly after that one, because it looked like he had sent Betsy on puprpose against Spiral hoping she would get rid of her for him who was counting on the past between them to make sure that would happen, Not too nice of him.....

Where are Spiral, Bishop and Cluster anyhow? I hope we never see Cluster or Evil Fantomex again. Hated them.

FSaker said...

We know that Cluster and Weapon XIII (a.k.a. Evil Fantomex) will either appear or be mentioned in Spurrier's X-Force (unless the book gets cancelled before it happens); he said so in an interview. Cluster and Fantomex may have been merged back into a single body (probably not, though).

As for Spiral and Bishop, they're probably hiding somewhere, since both are still seen as villains by the X-Men. Spiral probably is still taking care of Ginny.

I know a lot of people don't like Psylocke with telekinesis and don't like the weapons thing, but I really like the sort of shrapnel or blades she made here. I think it's a cool idea, personally. A limited, or specialized, telekinesis.

Matt,

I actually like her with telekinesis as her psycho-blast always did affect the physical world, like when she accidentally destroyed Cerebro years ago. Telekinesis would be a natural evolution... the way her telpathy was from her initial precognitive flashes (which I wish she still had).

What I don't like is the gimmicky nature of energy projection in the form of weapons. At that point, it's not even telekinesis. Telekinesis is the ability to physically move objects with one's mind. All this other crap she is doing is a whole separate made-up power... and it serves no purpose other than looking cool. That same kind of thing was what turned her into a slutty-looking, cardboard character back during the 90s.

She's come so far since Remender rehabilitated her. Why ruin that with another cheesefest?

Rahsaan,
I don't engage people who get rude and aggressive over the nature of comic book characters' super powers.

Matt,
Rude and aggressive? You are misreading my tone. I'm sorry if you took it that way, because it was neither rude nor aggressive. It was my opinion on what writers have done with this character, which is different from yours.

Honestly without the 90s version I don't think there would still be a character to rehab. Im glad Remenders run brought her such good material but without the 90's makeover shed have long departed relevance.

Xiaodave,
You do have a point... and she was actually kinda badass during The X-Tinction Agenda and that was, because Claremont was still writing her and portraying her as the same character just with her heart's desire to be a fighter. It was after he left that things went downhill for 20 years until Remender. However, you are right. She would've faded into obscurity with the Acts of Vegeance storyline, which I did like.

Indeed. As bad as her objectification was in the 90s, it did keep her relevant (that and her transformation into a ninja, as ninjas were very popular back then). Some of her teammates from the Outback era either faded for a long time (Dazzler, Longshot) or got relegated to satellite books (Havok), and even nowadays never managed to reach her popularity (yes, even with Havok being the leader of Marvel's supposedly main superhero team and Dazzler being a main character in a book written by Marvel's most famous writer nowadays).

As for the telekinesis debate... well, I also prefer her using it in more conventional ways. But Betsy never used her psychic powers the same way as other mutants, did she? Even when she was just a telepath, she could use the psychic knife. Plus, the way Wood showed her using her TK this issue was far more conventional than what Claremont did with her and Rachel years ago (remember Betsy becoming invisible? Rachel rearranging the atoms of her clothes to change her outfit or remodelling herself into a dinosaur?), so I'm okay with it.

FSkaer,

Good points about her being one of 4 relevant (her, Storm, Rogue and Wolvie) X-Men from the Outback days. Normally, I'd say 5, but I have no idea where Colossus is these days!

FSaker said...

Rahsaan Chisolm,

Colossus is currently in Amazing X-Men, the book featuring the other X-Men from Wolverine's side of the Schism (Storm is also there as a main character, and Rachel is there but just as a minor character).

It shows the hypocrisy in Wolverine's side of the Schism: Cyclops is still treated as a monster for the things he did as a Phoenix host (nevermind the fact that he only became evil after Wolverine and the Avengers repeatedly attacked him), yet Colossus was also a Phoenix host, he became a member of Cable's X-Force right after that (and let's remember, Cable's X-Force was perceived as a group of criminals), and when he decides to join Logan's team he's welcomed as if nothing happened.

As disappointing as Humphries's Uncanny X-Force book was, I loved how he wrote Betsy calling Logan out on his hypocrisy and saying that she wouldn't blindly follow one side of the Schism and think one side is all good and the other is all evil.

Still about Colossus, it's worth mentioning that Bendis's recent UXM arc is showing She-Hulk reading Xavier's will and testament for the X-Men - and while Xavier wanted the most important X-Men there for the reading, people like Colossus, Psylocke, Rogue and Gambit were just not invited, while Magik (who is quite recent as an X-Man) and FLAMEBIRD (who only became an X-Man AFTER Xavier died) were invited.

But the arc is being so bad (it is showing that Charles even married Mystique before dying...) that Betsy and the other X-Men mentioned being absent from it may actually be a good thing.

ok fsaker - i happen to love firestar - so knock it off - she wasn't invited obviously she was at the door just peeking in - and that flamebird has been a hellion and an avenger.
