Psylocke #4 Spoilers

Spoilers: Psylocke realizes Matsu'o purposefully provoked her and Jinn hoping that he would no longer need to suffer at the hands of Wolverine. Betsy tries to talk Logan out of it, but it's useless. Wolverine attacks Psylocke, and Betsy uses her psi-knife on Logan expecting that he would come to his senses. It doesn't work. Psylocke learns the hard way that only the animal in him remains. The battle continues. It's brutal. Wolverine won't stop, and Psylocke can't focus. Jinn wakes up; he takes on Logan and tells Betsy that he's going home and that she should follow her own advice: to choose to live. Wolverine returns and stabs Jinn, who flies away in pain. Betsy manages to focus and uses her psi-knife on Logan one more time. She puts a great fight, but Logan won't give up. Psylocke remembers Jinn's words. She comes to the conclusion that this life isn't hers and that she died a long time ago. She's tired of fighting. Psylocke drops her weapons and tells Wolverine that if he wishes to kill her, then be it. After a few moments of silence, Logan tells her to kill Matsu'o, but warns her that they will have a talk later about this desire to die that she has developed. And so he leaves with Yukio to the Blackbird. Psylocke faces Matsu'o once more. He knew it was going to be her to kill him. He's ready. Psylocke uses her telepathy on Matsu'o, making him see his body the way it once was, as well as Kwannon to receive him with open arms. Betsy kills him. "For so long, my life has been out of my own control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered. I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul. My self. But no more. Now I know who I am". Back in Utopia, Psylocke meets Mercury. Betsy praises her for not wanting to kill Sack earlier, despite everything she's been through. Psylocke tells her to "Hold on to yourself with everything you've got". Mercury asks her if she found what she was looking for in Japan, to what Betsy replies: "It's a start".

Looks like a neat ending, although I'll reserve my full judgment until I get to read the actual issue.

Also, in Marvel's solicits for May the Psylocke's TPB is said to include both this limited series and the original Lady Mandarin arc, wouldn't it be better suited if it included also X-Men 31-32 (the issues were Kwannon and Psylocke resolve her body swap) as well?

Overall, a pretty good ending to the mini. Talibao's artwork has really impressed me over the past four issues, partially because of the excellent inker and colourist he's been working with, it's given the art a very vibrant, energetic feel, and it's ten times better than his work on Young Avengers Presents. The use of continuity is excellent, and the fight between Bets and Logan is great. And one of the NXM is used in a vry interesting capacity that leverages the strength of her character! Yay! The only real issue I have with this is that the conflict between Psylocke and Wolverine just seems to end too abruptly, and it just seems to deadend after a while, with the issues of trust they encountered in this series apparently abandoned. I wish they could have done more with it, or perhaps use it as fodder for future stories. Overall though, a nice little mini, and we could read a lot worse (cough, Pixie Strikes Back, cough).

If the Psylocke serie are suppose to let us know what Psylocke can and cannot do with her new power set, can I say that she cannot use user TK katana anymore? I wonder why she did not use her katana to deal with Wolverine instead of using the psych knife the second time after the first time has failed.

She has already used the TK Katana during the Utopia crossover.

@Phoenix. The conflict between Psylocke and Wolverine didn't end abruptly. Yost left it open to interpretation with the whole "we'll talk about this later". Hopefully some other writer will follow up on that.

Anyways, this ending was just astonishing. I haven't seen Psylocke so well written since forever. I dare to say this is the ultimate Psylocke story. Nothing but to love to Mr. Yost and Mr. Talibao!

She actually use her psi-dagger in this series, two or three times in this issue alone! She actually uses all her powers, amazing! I just say that because I just finsished reading uncanny 521, another issue where betsy flashes the dagger all the time and never uses it, so done with that book.

However, I think the mini series was great, sad to see it end.

Nice mini overall, not how I would have ended it if I were the writer. I probably would have pushed for a fifth issue as well.

Can you say BEST PSYLOCKE STORY EVER? Yes (to me) ;)

I'm very dissapointed about this series, and I suscribe te words of Timithy Callahanover at CBR http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=user_review&id=1897

Seems like it was a great conclusion to a great story!

I just don't get why she thinks she died a long time ago (which she really did, but why does it matter now?) and why does she want to die, as Logan pointed out? If anything, her experiences with Revanche's death and with her own death and a second chance in life should make her embrace life with all the strength she has...

But I don't think this is really a problem, it's probably something Yost left us to think about.

And although I haven't read this issue yet, it's shocking to see that CBR's reviewer gave it a bad rating. Come on, how seriously can we take these reviewers? They always give high ratings to Uncanny X-Men, and Fraction's recent stories in it are AWFUL...

FSaker, I think she means that she died a long time ago when the whole body swap stuff happened. At that point, she's just tired of all that crap that's been done to her to the point she doesn't even know herself anymore. Of course, in the end, she seems to realize that she knows who she is. <3

God, I loved this story so much! ♥

@luckystar
I got the same feeling. She doesn't truly know who she is anymore. Is she an asian assassin with the mind of a brit pilot/model? Or is she a brit playing dress up in someone else's life and style? I loved the mini overall but it also brought up more questions that i doubt will get answered in Uncanny...

I thought it would have been nice at the end if she returned to Kwannon's grave and buried the ninjakini uniform in respect to her and the writers finally work on giving her her own.

I really loved the very last panel of it where shes brushing her hair. The color of her robe really reminds me of her old school Betsy uniform

the last pannel is so gorgeous... it kinda mix asian and british betsy influences.. that is exactley what it means..

that`s who betsy is!

I kinda feel Betsy has always known who she is, even during Revanche she never really doubted herself so her feeling she didnt at the end felt a little odd to me. But on the whole it was a great little story, Bring her playful attitude back into the mix and Yost can write the ongoing ;)

Odd they chose Mercury for her to bond with i would have thought Blindfold.

i lovved the art most, it rocked. i loved seeing betsy's powers in full throttle. we now know she has tk tp and the knife. and the beautiful energetic butterfly signature. and she KNOWS she is both british/asian and embracing that. now we can see more of her kicking ass! how can we all start a petition for marvel animated to do a psylocke dvd? (or at least co-star in one) it deserves a direct to dvd with no holds barred action (see 'afro samurai: resurrection'). at least that is tangible, as we know she will ever be in a feature film at all...

also activision needs to include her pink original costume as an alterante in the next game she is featured in. it is only right. who is behind me????

is psylocke's psychic knife generating from her fist, or from the top of her hand????????
sometimes it is the center of energy from her fist and some times i see artists 'placing' it on the top of her hand. i like the fist way- it looks more liek the total focus is being gnerated from the fist, not just a lazy light on 'top' of the back of her hand.

ha ha ha really, your arguing the feasability of a super hero fight??

Wolverine has had his ass beat by all sorts of ridiculous situations and he didnt lose here anyway so I dont know why your getting your little wolverine fanboy panties in such a bunch.
