X-Position: Jason Aaron

Jason Aaron on future guest stars of his title Wolverine: Weapon X..

Seeing as "Wolverine: Weapon X" is going to have a lot of Weapon X stuff going on, like Maverick’s appearance. Could you tip us off on any possible character appearances? Even a hint?

No plans for any other Weapon X characters any time soon. Maverick will continue to be a big part of the series, though, as you'll see come the end of “Weapon X” #5. In terms of other guest stars, look for Nightcrawler and Psylocke in the near future, and a little further down the road some heavy hitters like Captain America and the Thing.

This title has gotten a lot of praise for Aaron's quality of writing! This is definitely a good thing!

He he, thanks CmX. ;)

Betsy and Wolverine are such a natural team-up couple. They complement each other so well that it is almost....uncanny...

Yes, they have been a dynamic duo for years. I could definitely see something go on with them romantically in the future.

I'm actually pretty excited about this, Aaron's one of the most talented writers Marvel has hired in a long time, Do you read Scalped? It's amazing.

I'm a fan of Psyverine. Way better that grotesque Burtsy. She needs a real rugged man who can satisfy her. Is this set in the past?

Betsy and Logan are indeed a great team, but I think one of the nicest things about them is that they don't fall into the "boy and girl hanging out together means they will fall in love" clichè. They are just best buddies, and that's not something we see very often in comics (a man and a woman who get along great together without needing to be romantically involved).

Actually, that's one cool thing about Psylocke: while other x-women are busy dating the x-men, she just wants to hang out with them and have some fun. She lost a bit of this trace when she began dating Warren, though.

Anyway, back to the news: I don't read Wolverine's solo books, mainly because I'm not really interested in his stories as a solo hero, regardless of how good they are. But Jason Aaron's work in this book is very complimented, so Betsy appearing in it is definitely good news!

@Fsaker: Hi. Point well taken. However, Betsy and Wolverine could be a romantic/warrior couple. I guess the success or failure of such a Betsy/Wolverine relationship depends on how they are written. There is definitely chemistry between them, as there has been for years, but the question is can they be romantically involved and how would that work?

There are those people who argue that a beautiful, human looking mutant like Psylocke should not pair with another "non-goodlooking," non-human appearing mutant like Beast or Nightcrawler because they fall into that mutant category of "deformed" or "animal-esque." What's this tendency in our society to think that sterotypically good looking people should only date people of similar stature?

I couldn't disagre more here, especially when it concerns Betsy. Beast would certainly adore and worship Betsy: Beast has tended to be obsequious towards Betsy many times in the past, and I think he has always been attracted to her, but found her unattainable. Maybe Beast is lacking that self-confidence to pursue something romantic with Bets. Who knows, maybe Betsy prefers to be unattainable at this point.

Possible X-Men matches for Betsy include: Wolverine, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, or Nightcrawler. Maybe the answer to Betsy's love dilemma is outside the ranks of the male X-Men...

I would love for her to date someone out os X-Men, that would give her many oppurtunities to appear in other books. And I wont get excited about this until i see her name in the Wolverine: Weapon X Solicits!

Betsy belongs to Warren.PERIOD! :P

Back on-topic now,I doubt I'll give this new book a chance, plainly because I'm sick of all the stories revolving around Logan's days in Weapon X.

Hi, Centurion! Good point. Logan and Betsy could indeed become a couple, but if they didn't in the 80s/90s, when they were really close, I don't see why they would fall in love now.

In fact, I don't even know if Betsy would benefit from any love relationship right now... she was just paired with AoA-Sabretooth by Claremont (BTW, has anyone read Exiles #6 to know what happened to them?), Fraction wrote a fraption to Angel in UXM #512 saying he still likes Psylocke... I think the writers should give her some time alone, nowadays it seems she's always jumping from one romance to another.

BTW, I agree with what you said about Beast and Nightcrawler! Betsy doesn't seem superficial at all, she seems to be the kind of girl who would date a guy for what he is inside, not outside. (plus, we can't forget she was dating AoA-Sabretooth, who isn't much more "human in appearance" than them...)

@Fsaker: Hello, my friend. YES! EXACTLY. Thanks for mentioning AOA Sabertooth. I see Betsy as the type of beautiful mutant woman that looks more towards the inner than outer qualities in her mutant men. I say that Beast would treat her well because he has always been like the good nerd who desires the unattainable hot girl in his class. Another point that you got me contemplating is that Betsy dated an alter-ego version of a man who tried to kill her in Earth 616. But, it would seem to me that Betsy could only date a guy that resembled one of her deadly foes if she were looking at his inherrent qualities, not his external qualities. Maybe Claremont recognized this himself when he paired the two together in New Exiles. AOA Sabertooth was compassionate and sensitive to Betsy's problems, especially when she was preparing to fight Slaymaster. I think I have a copy of New Exiles 6. I will review New Exiles 6 it and see if I can find an answer for your question above.

Well, from what I've read at the CBR X-Books forums, it seems the New Exiles are all in stasis, stuck inside some wall at the Panoptichron (yup, ALL of them - including Sage, who didn't become one with the Panoptichron in the end, just a decoration in it, LOL!). The only New Exiles who are not stuck in it are Morph, Cat (who really died, it seems) and our beloved Psylocke (thanks to the Red Queen in Fraction's title).

It makes me wonder if her relationship with AoA-Creed was just a dream (of his, of hers, or even of both of them) or something like that. I guess we'll have to wait for an Exiles relaunch to find it out. Not everything can be an illusion, though, as Valeria Richards is with the New Exiles and Cat isn't (so it seems she really died).

@Fsaker: Honestly, I stopped reading Exiles after Psylocke returned to 616, which was when New Exiles was cancelled several months ago. The new lineup isn't compelling at all IMHO. There are many issues that haven't been resolved throughout the Exiles series that occurred during Psylocke's tenure with the team. I wonder if they will ever be answered in the series or a book like Sword of the Braddocks...

Betsy belongs to Warren? bwhahaha really? The second he realised his control of her was slipping he instantly ended their relationship, causing a mid-life crisis where he dated hookers and girls young enough to be his daughter. He's a firecracker at best, Betsy is an atom bomb!

Betsy should hunt down the sisterhood and open a can of whoop ass resulting in her forcing Spiral to teleport her to that stupid pink exiles palace and carve Sage out of the freekin wall.

FSaker said...

Heh, but look at the bright side: now that Sage is just stuck in the Panoptichron instead of BECOMING the Panoptichron, it's much easier for other writers to eventually bring her back.

I think Parker helped her a lot by undoing the "Sage becoming the Panoptichron" plot. Really, when Claremont wrote that, my first thought was: "Wow, a woman who is also the Omniverse's guardian and who is also a living palace? No other writer will ever want to bring her back again"...

And we should thank the deceased Red Queen for saving Betsy from such embarrassment! (even though she didn't fare much better with two body swaps in four issues and Dazzler blowing her face off)

BTW, Comic Book Resources has posted today the preview pages for DA/UXM:Exodus #1. Looks great; too bad Betsy doesn't appear in any of the first pages and she's not again listed among the X-Men in the first page (while even Dani Moonstar is - although it may indicate Dani's deal with Hela will have a big repercussion in the crossover).

Can't wait to see Betsy eviscerating Dark Beast with her TK katana!!
