Beautiful art with Betsy in it. I'm excited Betsy fits in Otherworld this time.

1000% this is Saturnyne. Some draw her with big and white hair some with blonde.

OK. Time for a little road trip down memory lane:

Emma and Saturnyne were created and developed independently--the former in Marvel (US), the later in Marvel UK--within a year or so of each other. That being said, there is something about chilly blonde ice queens that does seem like a trope.

Back in the day before this recent round of stuff started screwing up Otherworld, Opal Lun Saturnyne was an ambitious administrator in Otherworld, who worked FOR Roma, the Omniversal Guardian. Saturnyne is from Earth-9. She's had a crush on Brian on and off for years in the old comics.

She was on Earth with Betts and Brian and Allison Double (how come nobody remembers she is/was Betts's BFF from the STRIKE days?!) during the Jaspers Warp. Jim Japsers was -killed- Dead and permanently. Yes, I know they've brought back the Fury a couple of times...bear with me.

Saturnyne and Betts should be better acquainted than they are, unless the Saturnyne from the original Captain Britian comics, from Earth-9, has been replaced by a different side-real counterpart.

Also worth noting: Saturnyne had NO Magical abilities until this recent mess.

And it seems like Howard and others are completely overlooking the fact that Brian and Betts are only half-human. Their father was a native of Otherworld, and not human. As stated clearly by Mastermind (their dad's super computer) in the cavern under Braddock Manor.

In Captain Britain Issue 7 from 1985, pgs 8-10 shows the information.

On pg 9, Betts asks "Why do you refer to us as a unit. We are individuals...human beings."

Mastermind: "I am afraid I must correct you. You are HALF human. Your father came from Otherworld"

"He was one of Merlyn's chosen guard. He came here to prepare the way. And, he formed me, a node of the Omniversal Knowledge, to be a watchpost in this young and evermore glamorous continuum."

"He took a wife and there were children. In the first, Jamie, the Otherworld genes were subverted. But then came twins--you two. You are of the Otherworld and wield that power."

Brian: "But I...I thought the power was in the suit?!"

Mastermind: "The suit is merely an amplifier. The power is intrinsic to you."

That begs the question: What was so special about their mother that made her a genetically compatible mate for humanoid alien from Otherworld, that would produce strongly metahuman children?

And a fun fact: Telepathy is the normal means of communication in Otherworld,
as stated in Exalibur (1988) Issue 24, pages Pg 14.

Alistair and Rachel (disguised as Kitty) are watching a dust up between different alt. reality Captain Britains from the Corp and Brian/CB.

Alistair (bottom left panel): "It may well be the last--that's two-man war! How can Saturnyne not intervene?"

Rachel clutching her head, looking miserable, "She's a busy lady."

Alistair: "Are you alright, Rachel?"

Rachel (middle panel, looks like she's got a nasty migraine): "Too many telepaths. Standard mode of communication around here. Like trying to think straight...with the whole of London...shrieking in both ears!"

Then Rachel is hit with a bunch of glue just as she says "Oh, Fuzzy. This brilliant scheme of yours is not working OWH...."

Looks like all this has been forgotten...

Moore by himself and Davis with Claremont have created a mind blowing and complex mythos with Otherworld. The newest interpretation is a far cry from the brilliance we had. Characters are out of character with relationships changed and a feeling of reboot in the air. The incursions are responsible for multiple destruction of realities started from the ultimate reality death to contraction. The Mapmakers wiped out the Captain Britain Corps and they were created by Jonathan Hickman. The man is obligated to explain how the Secret Wars have changed Otherworld and the details of mind wipes on every character involved with the extra dimensional hub to the multiverse. The Fair and Foul courts are a nice attempt at structuring the hierarchy in Otherworld and I will wait to see how it will respond to omniversal threats of the Beyonders and the Mapmakers.

I liked Emma's first GenX look (the jacket and corset with shorter hair) and her Quietly look lol yes its skimpy but it was iconic imo and having Emma as a platinum blond sets her a apart from Saturyne, Husk and Dazzler (which, all colorists forget shes strawberry blonde not full on blonde)

K.A.T. I'd have to disagree with your points. Saturnyne and Betsy shouldn't be better acquainted. If you recall correctly, Saturnyne was a bitch and left Betsy to be caught by Jaspers' guards. Didn't even attempt to help her.

Also, Saturnyne is currently the Omniversal Guardian, that's why she has powers now. She has been in charge since Roma died in Die by the Sword. Even when Roma was resurrected in Spider-verse, Saturnyne remained the boss in charge and Roma acted like her subordinate.

Also, how is the fact that Brian and Betsy are half-human in any way relevant ou important? It isn't. lol. Sounds like a dumb thing to complain about.

Also, telepathy is NOT the normal means of communication in Otherworld. In Excalibur #24, the team is in the Omniversal Hub not Otherworld. Two different things.

Right? And they don't even try to give them distinct hairstyles except for Magik's signature bangs

Kiki M. Ishola said...

@randybear I so much love your eye for detail and good taste. For me Emma without a bob cut and yellow blond hair is a poser. Magik with no bangs is someone else and Dazzler is a strawberry blond cause she passed it down to her son Shatterstar. Saturnyne should be silver blonde rocking a barrel curls updo.

@kiki ty so much! My dream job would be to proof xmen comics before they print lol id be so strict about details the creatives would hate me 🤣

@randybear the creatives are the writers and artists and you'd do a solid to artists who get the short end of the stick. You go by the art book and care for the artist trouble to create an image for everyone. When you let your guard down you become sloppy and lose the game.
