Ooh, the psi-knife! Could it finally be back? And it could be interesting to see Excalibur's situation in this war between nations, as they pledged their allegiance to both of them (though Betsy is the only one from Britain and I'm not sure she feels that attached to her country...).

As for the other books, nice to see Petra and Sway back to life (now where's the original Thunderbird??), and the new X-Factor seems interesting.

In fact, one thing I only realized now is that it feels like the rosters in each book were chosen to be intentionally odd... like Excalibur having only one British mutant and none of the others having ever been affiliated with it before (plus Apocalypse being part of the group); New Mutants mixing some original New Mutants, some Generation X people and some of the X-teens like if they belonged to the same generation; X-Force being led by Jean Grey and Beast; Marauders being a pirate crew WITHOUT NIGHTCRAWLER... then there's Hellions having former (?) villains from different groups mixed with Havok, and this X-Factor's roster being completely random.

It will take a good time until I get to read these books to know if this new X-age is a good one. But it's definitely not afraid of being odd.

Also, X-Men getting a tie-in to Empyre probably means Hickman won't be writing any major X-event so soon (he seems to like taking a long time developing plot threads before coming with a huge event of sorts).

Which is probably okay, as long as we get to see the rosters from different books visiting each other every now and then.

That Excalibur cover is gorgeous. And it's nice to see Captain Britain manifesting the knife again.

On the flipside, they need to stop putting Psylocke in these gratuitous poses. I'm all for sex-positive / sexually expressive characters but there's a way of representing these characters without being in-your-face. legs-up-in-the-air here is my derriere. The nature of her uniform is sexy enough, no need to pose her like that.

Glad to see the psi knife again as well as the.....butterfly? I don't get why Kwannon now has purple hair again though. I really wish she would make her own identity instead of backtracking to a past one of Betsy's as far as wardrobe, codename, powers, hair color etc etc.

randybear said...

That's been my argument on Twitter regarding Kwannon and I always get replies from randoms such as "IT WAS KWANNONS FIRST"

I wish there were more people that came to my defense cause I'm out here on my own trying to fight for Betsy lol

X-Man said...

Yeah people have said that to me as well lol. I just tell people that in every flashback I've seen of Kwannon she has never once had that outfit on. It appears more like it was a gift presented to Betsy. Even if that were true (and I've seen no proof it is). The Psylocke name, psychic powers, and purple hair was certainly not hers first. Those things are all heavily associated with Betsy and for someone that is trying to break her ties and establish her own identity, these are all odd choices to me. She didnt even use a psi blade this much when she was in Betsy's body, she seemed to prefer a psychic katana.

Marvel certifies my points about Ninjalocke. She exists to be pimped out like a prostitute on covers. Legs open, coochie-cutter flash muff and tits up in the air for horny geeks. Everything Ninjalocke has name, powers, purple color is Betsy's.

@randy & X-Man Didn't you guys notice that ignorant statement Tini Howard dished out in her latest interview when asked about passing the mantle of Psylocke to that ever-dreadful character?

"That brand thing never came up once. Kwannon is still Psylocke and she’s great–we still have an amazing Psylocke sans Betsy. We didn’t seek to ‘prioritize the Betsy brand’ or anything. I want a long history of learning more about Kwannon and watching Psylocke be Psylocke."

X-Man said...

@PoetryInMotion I read that stupid interview, but I cant help but wonder if Marvel was "helping" her make such statements lol. I doubt they'd be thrilled with her if she said Kwannon sucks and Psylocke has been Betsy's way before the body swap lol. It just blows my mind that they dont see the story they wrote is illogical lol. It makes Kwannon seem like a loon imo. It would make more sense if Betsy passed on the mantle to her vs Kwannon having some form of hatred for Betsy wanting an identity separate from her, yet using a look and name very associated with Betts lol. I bet if people mistook her for Elizabeth, she would get upset about it too lol.

She is the new Kamala Khan Poetry dear. Kamala is a die hard fan of Captain Marvel and Ninjalocke is a die hard nemesis of Betsy.
Watch the movie Single White Female and you'll see Betsy is Allison and Ninjalocke is Hedra.

I'm game with Marvel show love to real Asian mutants and not bodyswapped junk.

GO JUBILEE! GO KARMA! GO ARMOR! GO SURGE! GO GORGON! GO DAKEN!

Aaaaaand GO SWAY! I'm hyped for her return in the X-Men series.

Not Betsy or Kwannon related, but I'm so glad they're doing something with Moira's students. I had an idea for them when I heard Marvel doing the cloning & Vulcan popped up alive & happy. Only gross thing is for reasons the clones don't get the memories of how & why they died.

I'm hoping Darwin(only one of Moira's kids who is still in his original body) informs the other "second" X-Men. I want some people to feel uncomfortable or like the island isn't a Utopia now that Fallen Angels is done.

I always felt the Deadly Genesis retcon was one of the crappiest retcons did in the post Morrison floundering era.

X-Man said...

I've seen that movie lol. I dont think Kwannon is that crazy haha. More irritating.

"Aaaaaand GO SWAY! I'm hyped for her return in the X-Men series."

Sway is Asian? She's been dead for so long that I forgot her nationality (and Petra's)...

And yes, Deadly Genesis was a bad retcon. It was basically made to destroy Xavier's reputation and reinforce Scott as the undisputed leader of mutantkind.

(it's kinda funny to realize that Marvel spent many years building Scott up as the beloved X-leader, then spent many other years to destroy his image... was the X-line a mess back then or what)

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Alex and Fsaker Sway is from Hong Kong and hold on.... NOT a psychic! She is the Piper Halliwell of the X-Men.

Show me once Prof X wasn't a jerk. Cyke is the right dude getting the shaft.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

X-Man the girlfriend of Matsuo is worse than Hedra she lives to drink blood and chop heads. I want Mr. Sinister experiment on her and make her Miss Sinister. Anyways she likes to be naked it suits her.

FSaker said...

Well, Charles used to be a kind guy most of the time. Sure, he had his jerk moments - but which X-Men didn't? Cyke himself was a major jerk throughout the Fraction run (and even on Whedon's run he had his moments).

I'd say acting as a jerk at least once is a prerequisite to be part of the X-Men. Getting naked in front of each other is another one (by the time Scott's team was resurrected in Krakoa, I wondered why they even bothered putting clothes on) - one that Betsy has done so many times that I lost my count, by the way.

Alex said...

@FSaker,

Yeah, Sway is Asian. I can't remember if it was said if she was Asian-American or if she & her family immigrated to the U.S for her to have a better education. Petras family was from Denmark, Darwins where Puerto Rican. Brubaker tried to stay with the idea of a multinational team, similar to Claremont's original story.

Having them in the main X-Book might make me pick it up consistently. My only for sure pulls have been Excalibur, FA & X-Factor.

I just get the idea that living on the very island that killed them with the person who poorly psi-trained them could lead to interesting points of views. My idea was that & maybe have them feel they don't belong in Krakoa, not yet. Have them reestablish the Muir Island base but have a Krakoa portal there in case of emergencies. Maybe have them find clues that Moira's alive & in hiding.

Having a team on Muir also helps establish another outpost like the Lighthouse.

X-Man said...

Lol I do remember the scene where she ruthlessly killed people just to prove her loyalty in Betsy's body and even her lover (I think that was him) said it was unnecessary and brutal.

Ry said...

Britain vs Krakoa should be interesting. I love seeing Betsy manifest her psy knife again, hopefully her butterfly and telepathy start being used again. Also the wave 2 dawn of X books look disappointing IMO

The Dawn of X titles that are good and pique the interest are Excalibur, X-Force, X-Men and X-Factor the newest installment exploring the Hatchery and the Five.

New Mutants has been a roller coaster and its importance lies in the Shi'ar storyline. The Marauders is trying to be funny, edgy and unpredictable but fails to connect with its main team roster. Storm, Iceman and Bishop are wasted on that book.

The second wave titles are unnecessary books, extra fat to bleed the wallet. X-Factor shows promise but it is written by Leah Williams the writer who shoved body dysmorphia and eating disorders down Betsy's throat. I'm not a fan of that mishap.

Ry said...

@Jamie Braz, I'd probably be excited for X-Factor if Williams wasn't on it. She's a terrible writer, what she did to Betsy was probably her worst offense but her other stuff isn't any better. I'm scared for what she will do to Lorna and Rachel specifically, they are underrated favorites of mine and I can only imagine what she does with them. It sucks because Northstar is one of my favorite X-men and I love Polaris and Rachel as well, if another writer was on the book I would be so pumped for it. I feel like Marjorie Liu would've been a good fit even though she doesn't really work on comics nowadays outside of Monstress.

"I'm scared for what she will do to Lorna and Rachel specifically"

If she decides to bring back Rachelsaurus, I won't complain.

But no crazy bride Lorna, please. And no romance between Rachel and sentient bacteria.
