Excalibur #5 Spoilers

Spoilers: As Gambit falls to his death, Rictor uses the magic-imbued crystals to bend the earth and save Remy. Gambit and Rictor reach the surface only to find the magical beasts from Otherwold devastating London. Apocalypse orders them to return to the Lighthouse as he is ready to perform a ritual that will permanently allow mutant access to Otherworld. In London, Captain Britain and Pete Wisdom team up to protect the people in the streets. Betsy takes Wisdom to his apartment in safety and leaves for the Lighthouse. Excalibur regroups at the Lighthouse and Apocalypse explains that Shogo’s dragonfire melted the veil between Otherworld and Earth. Apocalypse is upset things are moving way too fast and not according to his plains, to which Gambit explains that he was the one who changed his plans. Remy had asked for Rachel Summers’ help to look after Rogue as Gambit knew it was Apocalypse who had placed Rogue into a coma intentionally. Apocalypse gets even angrier when he realizes Rictor had used the magic imbued in the crystals to save Gambit. As the magic lies inside Remy, Apocalypse decides it’s time to use him instead.

Meanwhile, Rogue finds herself in a dreamscape where she meets the same fiery wolf Betsy had previously dreamt about. The wolf leads Rogue to a circle of stones. Rogue sees a vision of Apocalypse which prompts her to remember the light that hit her before. Rogue realizes the wolf is actually Rachel looking after her. It’s time to wake up.

Rogue wakes up from her coma ready to save Gambit from Apocalypse. Rogue is angry at Apocalypse for using them as pawns and touches his bare skin. Apocalypse realizes his own bones are imbued with magic and persuades Rogue to kill him instead as to complete the ritual. Rogue kills Apocalypse and the gate changes as the ritual is fulfilled. Rogue warns Betsy that he wants the throne. Betsy, Gambit, Rictor and Jubilee all look in awe at Rogue displaying Apocalypse’s powers.

I was shocked reading that Rogue killed Apocalypse... until I remembered that mutantkind is now able to resurrect themselves (in fact, has X already been resurrected after he was killed in X-Force #1? I'd be surprised if he's still dead).

Nevertheless, it's great that Rogue is finally back into action! And it's also nice that Rachel got involved in the story considering she was one of the original Excalibur members. Plus, Shogo being not only a cute baby, but also contributing to the plot (can we consider him an official Excalibur member? Pretty please?)!

And unless these spoilers omitted information, it seems that people who were worried about Betsy hooking up with Pete Wisdom didn't need to worry, after all.

Oh, also about Apocalypse, I read that one issue of the main X-Men book indicated that he is scheming undercover to bring back his first Horsemen and to claim a throne (possibly meaning he'd overthrow the other members of the Council of Krakoa?)...

If that happens, do you guys think this plot would be restricted to the main X-book (where Apocalypse is also a major character) or could Excalibur also be involved in this story?

The Rachel reveal was weird and anti climactic. I get she was part of the OG Excalibur but felt like a weak reveal.

I hope we eventually see Roma and Merlin (and before any of you respond "BUT THEYRE DEAD") as if any character stays dead or needs a reason to be retconned alive just to explain some obscure arc in a mini series 10yrs ago.

I'm in shock and awe! I didn't expect the story to escalate in that direction! I got goosebumps when Rogue went berserker on Apocalypse. It was brutal and heartwarming at the same time because she was defending Gambit.

Another awesome moment was the psionic wolf reveal to be Rachel's astral form! I was KO'd by the sweetness of it. Jean has the phoenix, Karma has the sahasrara and Betsy has the butterfly. If anyone believes that Betsy isn't the butterfly fight me in the comments.

It was a nice touch of continuity that Rachel kept in contact with Betsy with whom she became close friends during the House of M. Rachel wanted to protect her best friends Betsy and Rogue and it gave a plus to the story and a human aspect. The OG Excalibur members cameos keep coming. Next are Nightcrawler, Dazzler, Feron, Kylun and Lionheart.

I want to see how Apocalypse gets resurrected and what Rogue does with his powers and essence.

I know the X creed is to resurrect all dead mutants including villains, possibly except for precogs, but in cases of overpowered villains like Apocalypse & Selene I'd leave them dead. I know low level villains like Sabertooth are being kept underground in some type of stasis but I don't see that holding OP characters.

Does it explain how Raechel is able to enter Rogue's mind and Betsy can not? I'm confused cause I don't even remember Betsy trying to do so lol.
