Her costume looks ON POINT! It isn't clunky at all and the cape is very short. This is the original design! I hope other artists learn to draw it properly from now on.

I really like the way the costume looks here, some art I've seen makes it look really bulky I like it when it's sleeker. I wonder how Betsy's fighting style will be since I'm so used to her as a ninja.

It would be cool to see the other team members get modern fantasy-style costumes

Marcus To is a god. I feel like we got really lucky having To on this book compared to other dawn of x titles lol

Facts, I felt his talent was wasted on Age of X-man. I’m glad to see Marvel putting him to good use

Agreed. Leinil Yu doesn't put effort anymore. His art is just a bunch of unfinished sketches. The art in Fallen Angels is ugly. Marauders looks very generic. X-Force looks very good though.

In this armor Betsy is crisp and gorgeous. Marcus To meshes the femininity, sex appeal and warrior properties of Betsy like a fashion guru.

Vital detail that Betsy's hourglass figure isn't lost under the knight pieces.

The flowers don't cram into her image which To uses as a link to Betsy's elegance and super model past.

The armor is a reference to S.T.R.I.K.E. and her former adventures as Captain Britain.

Can't predict how it looks colored, but without colors Betsy's breast plate catches the eye and serves as illusion that she wears a bikini top. Well thought!

Betsy looks majestic! Although her face looks naked without the butterfly effect. The butterfly shall flutter back to its owner. I agree the trimmed armor allows her curvaceous figure to show.

randybear said...

The butterfly would compliment this design perfectly. Jaime I think at this point it's too late the butterfly is gone I'm sure the butterfly transfer is already cemented in the scripts submitted I think it's too late.

We just gotta accept the change. Marvel does not care about Betsy losing the butterfly o dont think enogu people bitched. I think lore people will be vocal about it once the titles released but yeah too late. We could have really come at them about it when To revealed it was going away but I saw a lot of.. "I'm sad the butterfly is gone but I'm so excited anyway!" Kinda remakes which.. doesnt help.

Oh well RIP butterfly

I might be in the minority, but looking at this image which is so crisp on its own, I think the butterfly would be too much. She already has a lot going on with the armor, the cape, the belt, the sword and shield. I think the luminescence from the two psychic weapons might be enough flashiness. The butterfly is beautiful when drawn well (which half the time it is not), but based on this imagery, I actually think she looks awesome without it.

Also, are we definitively sure Kwannon has it? I have not seen any art with her display a butterfly power signature for Dawn of X, only a psychic knife. I know there is an image of her surrounded by what looks like real insect butterflies, but I haven’t seen one with her displaying a butterfly aura or seen any artists or writers confirm she will.

I hope Kwannon doesn't have it. That would make me feel better. I don't want her taking everything that was Betsy's. I wanted them to have their own identities and stop being intertwined. The picture of Betsy looks amazing, though I am sad the new uniform is already gone. I am excited for this series though.

@X-Man, Kwannon has already displayed the butterfly signature in Uncanny and the writer of Fallen Angels already confirmed on Twitter that Kwannon would be claiming it as well.

Won't be the first or last time Marvel steals from an original character and hands it out to a random new because that new is overhyped.

It started with Jim Hammond the first Human Torch and Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four who adopted the same hero name.

Hank Pym has all his powers and identities and costumes split to different people.

Luke Cage who goes only by his name and last name used Power Man and lost it to Victor Alvarez.

Captain Marvel belonged to Mar-Vell, then borrowed by Monica Rambeau, Genis-Vell, Phyla-Vell and Carol Danvers.

Miss Marvel was Carol's and now Kamala Khan's.

Spider-Man Peter Parker is one and only but that doesn't stop Marvel to give away his name to others like they do with Wolverine and Ghost Rider.

But Psylocke was a distinct identity created for Betsy when she was introduced to the X-Men. Her butterfly is a part of her powers and organism. It can't be transferred to another character. It's like cutting your hair and nose and sticking them on another person's head.

Do we really want a continuation of the body swap or move away from it and forget it? Kwannon needs a new name and powers. Period.

Jaime Braz said...

Friendly reminder.

Psylocke is a slave name that Mojo gave to Betsy.

Do we want a person of color have a slave name?

Kwannon is Japanese and Japan suffered humiliation from the West in the 17th century by the American Commodore Matthew Perry and his subsequent Meiji Restoration with the abolition of the traditional Shogunate with the Japanese lifestyle and its socioeconomic structure.

In the 20th century the West nuked Japan's future and health in Hiroshima and Nagasaki leading Japan to a lapdog state of disarmament and prostration to the West which still is in effect.

Just think the racist message Marvel sends to the readers when it promotes a Japanese character with a borrowed British name. Zero care about healthy and original representation, zero effort for cultural integrity and zero effort to elevate a Japanese character. The ninja shenanigans don't count because it's stereotypical Japanese illustration for any Asian character.

Robbie said...

I think calling it a slave name is a stretch. Whether bestowed upon her by Mojo or not, she’s assumed that name throughout her career. It could have easily been changed or removed long ago, but she has embraced it.

@X-man From what we've seen Kwannon has the exact same powers as Betsy. I really wish Marvel would've given her different powers to make the two different from where it stands Marvel wants Kwannon to have as much likeness to Betsy as possible probably for marketing reasons since every single outside media Psylocke has been in she's been Asian. They probably want to use Kwannon for the long run as a replacement hoping new fans won't take a notice that Psylocke used to be Betsy. I hate to get into the topic of the body swap but the reversion should've happened way sooner because 3 generations of X-men fans ('90s, 2000s, 2010s) are used to Betsy being Asian and it makes things confusing. I think it's unfair for both characters and their fans because of 1. Kwannon will have to constantly live in Betsy's shadow and 2. Betsy has to deal with another character completely ripping her off. It's too early to tell how things will go for both characters but as of right now I wish Marvel would've put more thought when making the changes to Psylocke

I hate the power thing, but glad Betsy and Kwannon are in their own bodies again lol. I really don't think people will be to confused though since I myself started with "asian" Betsy and figured it out. They practically mentioned it ever 5 minutes anyway over the years lol.

The art of Terry Dodson, Mahmud Asrar, R.B. Silva and Marcus To for Betsy has me sold on her white body. I always knew Betsy was a White European woman trapped in an Asian female and I wanted to meet the real Psylocke before the body swap. I'm happy I met Betsy in her true form and affiliated with her own culture. The knight look and identity is right for Betsy and looks beautiful on her with the style of Marcus To.

May the X-Men in Excalibur without new costumes get some. Rogue is the only without a new costume if I'm right.

Jim Cheung is the artist who doesn't put effort and draws the same face on everyone. And takes him a century to finish a single issue. He shares the award with Jim Lee, Greg Land and Rob Liefeld as best hack artist.

Gary Frank, Sara Pichelli and Pepe Larraz are the best artists and have free pass to delay for an eternity.

Leinil Yu is Asian so Marvel thinks he can pull off a Kwannon who won't look White for once. Without blue eyes and blonde or purple hair. Lets hope he won't use Betsy's butterfly and sticks to the regular psi knife of the 90s. Better even the crimson dawn.

Tobias Chatti said...

@randybear you mean in Rosenberg's Uncanny X-Men? No that wasn't a butterfly on Kwannon's face. Salvador Larocca and guest artists draw a psychic bleep the generic bleep that empaths have to show they use their powers. It was more a Karma halo.
