Marcus To said on Twitter they are moving away from the butterfly with Betsy.

Guessing that confirms its now also Kwannons

Benjamin Hutton said...

Urgh. No. No. No.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this....

Rahsaan said...

Well, could be good... could be bad. Betsy didn’t manifest the butterfly until Uncanny 213, and only as her astral self. In the next few issues that followed, we started seeing more and more of it as her power signature. But in her early days, her power signature was more like this. Did he say they were returning to something like this? This actually looks more threatening than the butterfly:

https://images.app.goo.gl/9bEPjm5ggDfPm9Yt9

I’m fine with the butterfly going away, if no one gets it. It would be silly for Kwannon to manifest it though, so I hope they don’t go that route as it proves that they only think of Kwannon as Fake Betsy, which insults that character.

Deemo Dude said...

But didn't the butterfly appear on Betsy even before she Kwannon back in the day ? Why remove that ?! It's one of her own original signatures ! Or am I wrong ? Cuz I'm starting to feel that they're trying to make us forget all the history of her before she got her body back.

randybear said...

Deemo yes the butterfly appeared years before the body swap. Alan davis gave it to her in #213 Uncanny.

I guess Kwannon using the butterfly in that Uncanny issue a couple months back wasn't an artist error after all

Deemo Dude said...

This is so unfair even if I'm giving this a shot. It feels like Psylocke just got her name changed from Betsy to Kwannon but kept her the same way with all her powers and Captain Britain Betsy is a reboot to even origins this way.

I had one question though as a fan ? Does her switch back to old body remove problems like her addict to kill and all the emotional problems she had in Kwannon's body ? because of they're removing it and not gonna even mention her struggle with it right now I believe we're screwed with thos body swap

Rahsaan said...

Also Marcus To confirmed that Betsy’s flowers do have a purpose. They are Krakoa flowers.

Rahsaan said...

@randy, did Kwannon manifest a butterfly? Which issue? Only recall her manifest the knife. I need to go back and see.

As for the butterfly, the art in HoX looks reminds me more of an indy comic like the writing. If they’re getting away from the “cute” aspect of the butterfly, I’m not mad at them as long as neither women manifest it. If they’ doing it to make Betsy’s powers look less cartoony, I’m okay with that. i personally felt she looked more powerful and deadlier with the flashy eyes like when she killed Brian’s doppelgänger who almost raper her than the butterfly which I like, but is more cutesy. Even in Disassembled they started re using the flashing eyes albeit in pink versus yellow more than the full on butterfly and she was a badass in that run.

Rahsaan said...

The Marvel UK series when she killed that dude also felt more like an indy comic too, so I hope that is the route they are going with all this revamped story telling. HoX feels like that to me.

Yeah not sure which issue# but it was the one where Logan took Kwannon with him to find Wolfsbane's killers and Kwannon finds them telepathically and the butterfly signature is scene a couple times through the issue. I thought it was artist error since he was a fill in for Larroca but I see it wasn't.

I can accept Betsy taking up the Captain Britain mantle for it was her longtime dream. However I won't accept Betsy losing her butterfly signature and Psylocke history with the X-Men before Nicieza created the accursed Kwannon. That Japanese woman has become a headache since day one for Betsy. Claremont wanted to experiment on Betsy although not in a healthy way and we have stuck with Kwannon ripping off Betsy in every way possible. I refuse to wait and watch Psylocke Betsy fade slowly away into obscurity.

X-Man said...

Betsy should keep the butterfly signature. I don't like that Kwannon isn't getting her actual own identity, but just copying everything about Betsy. Kwannon shouldn't even be a telepath lol.

randybear said...

Jordan White has also now confirmed Betsy has moved past the butterfly.

I'm almost kinda done at this point. Theres no Betsy it's a totally different character while keeping ninja Psylocke perfectly intact.

Finn said...

At the time Kwannon seems more like Betsy than Betsy herself does!! Ugh! I hated this body change since the begining and now confirmed Kwannon will be Psylocke in XMen books with Betsys power set including butterfly and her alias Psylocke. And Besty will be away from X men books and with other power set ? Wtf?

X-Man said...

The butterfly is something that is unique to Betsy. Something she retained in both bodies. Why would Kwannon all of a sudden acquire it? I'm all for Betsy being in her original body and not trapped in someone else's, but Kwannon needs to stay gone. The butterfly is Betsy's.

randybear said...

Marcus avoided the question if Betsy will still be a TP by saying Tini Howard will be exploring her powers etc so he has come out and confirmed some things but not the TP so ots gone and Kwannoms now would explain why the butterfly leaves Betsy although Mike Carey explained that Betsy IS and always will be the butterfly

RIP Betsy Braddock hope the new generations love your reinvention

Urgh. URGH.

Firstly, the butterfly effect is Betsy's power signature. There's no more likelihood of this changing, than there is of Cyclops blasts suddenly turning green. It's nonsensical.

Which is the reason I have no problem with Kwannon having it. It's simply a biological expression of telepathic energy.

BUT... more and more it's sounding like Psylocke maybe won't even be a telepath?

I'm all for Psylocke claiming the identity of Captain Briatin BUT ONLY AS HERSELF, the psychic knight - the new identity she has just come into.

If there's some bullshit about her having to trade her mutant powers for Captain Britain ones then I have zero interest - like maybe the amulet blocks her telepathy or some other bullshit.

We JUST finally got a Betsy free of all the abuse and manipulation she had lived through, ready to stake a claim to the world in her own body, with her own power.

I thought her becoming Captain Britain was a reflection of that. Now it's seeming more and more like this is a destruction of her character.

When it's making me prefer the Betsy I got in that abomination of the recent Uncanny X-Men? You know you have a real problem.

randybear said...

Ben I'm nearly 100% positive she will be losing her TP to Kwannon.

Marcus To avoided the TP question he beat around the Bush because I assume he doesnt want to spoily Tini Howard's scripts which I get.
No butterfly signature, and the fact that Madcus To confirmed "her powers will be explored and evolved"

Aka she's is being completely revamped into a new character.

Reply from Tini - all but confirms Psylocke will still have her telepathy.

Psi Girl they confirmed they're moving away from the butterfly completely so itd assumed Kwannon had it now especially after seeing her manifest it in recent issues of Uncanny

Please let Tini Howard or Jordan White know they seem pretty responsive and I kinda want them to see if theres a chance to fix this before it's a done deal

Renegade X said...

The butterfly effect is Betsy only it should not be replaced at all...just give Kwannon a dragon. Always thought the House of M look is like a revamped classic look.

I hate this bullshit excuse "shes evolving self discovery!" Okay but Kwannon is a blank slate she can be ANYTHING Marvel wants but they're giving her all of Psylockes attributes. I guess she doesnt need her own identity according to Marvel?

randybear said...

Small update so it looks like the writer of Fallen Angel's was behind Kwannon keeping the butterfly. He has been defending it on twitter after the backlash stating Kwannom is entitled to the butterfly if she wants since Betsy "claimed her body it's only fair"

Wtf this guy is a moron and hope the book ranks. I love Betsy but at this point I'll DOWNLOAD excalibur and fallen Angel's I wont buy them. I've been a loyal comic fan for decades and always bought comics never once downloaded a single issue for free but I will now.

Jordan, Tini and the writer of Fallen Angel's are all being very unapologetic about completely dismantling Betsy so I wont be supporting the titles with my money.

what a dork. The butterfly doesn´t nothing do to with bodies, but with her mind. Why kwannon would have the minimium resembleance with a butterfly?

randybear said...

He clearly seemed pointed at Betsy like she forcibly stole Kwannons body. She claimed the body? What was she supposed to do? Kill herself?

X-Man said...

That makes no sense. If Betsy "claimed" Kwannon's body than Kwannon."claimed" Betsy's so even with that asinine logic, Kwannon does not deserve to have the butterfly effect.

Benjamin Hutton said...

Why isn't the cover for "Fallen Angels" here?

randybear said...

What's sad is they are really trying to market Betsy as never being Psylocke at all even pre swap. Like shes essentially just the character before the XMen and everything in between was Kwannon. That's how this is all being swept under the rug. Kwannon as Psylocke will claim everything Betsy did while trapped in Kwannons body.
