X-Men: Apocalypse's Olivia Munn Reveals Psylocke Frustrations

CBR: X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn revealed some frustrations she experienced on the set of the 2016 superhero film. Specifically, Munn was irked at the fact that director Bryan Singer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg apparently didn't know a great deal about her Marvel character, Psylocke.

While participating in an "Actually Me" video for GQ, Munn was asked on social media if she was frightened by how "crazy" some fans get over film adaptations of comic books. She replied, "No, because I get like that too."

"I think that people wouldn't get so crazy if it was just a really great movie," Munn continued. "When I was doing X-Men, I was actually surprised that the director [Singer] and the writer [Kinberg] didn't even know that Psylocke had a twin brother. And I had to talk to them about a lot of different things about Psylocke and some other parts of the world that they didn't know and that, as a fan, was very frustrating."

In the events of the film, Munn's Psylocke serves as a bodyguard to Tómas Lemarquis' Caliban before being recruited by Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse as one of the villain's "Four Horsemen" alongside Magneto, Angel and Storm. The X-Men ultimately defeat Apocalypse, with Psylocke escaping amidst the chaos. The character ultimately did not return for Dark Phoenix.

If Munn's comments are anything to go on, it appears the actress wasn't particularly happy with how things played out for Psylocke was portrayed in Apocalypse. Notably, she has also had a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing as reporter Chess Roberts in Iron Man 2.

This is why she was so passionate playing as Psylocke. It all depends on the director to make good characters shine.

At the end of the day tons of the characters through the fox films sucked hard so Psylocke could have been worse she was hardly noticeable but I loved Munn as the look for Betsy a lot.

The Fox Psylocke was ripped off the pages of Bendis Ultimate. There she was exactly like the Fox movie. That is why it tanked. Singer is a dumbass he could honor Betsy as a Caucasian who had cancer and switch her to Kwannon's body and turn her his horseman. The yellow face would make sense. Singer is crap I don't want him near the MCU X-Men. I hope they cast a real Betsy next time.

Tobias I doubt Marvel will touch Singer with a 20 foot pole. They dont just pick anyone to handle their characters they normally have to have a good grasp of the characters and universe. Singer has succeeded in proving he absolutley does not and the pedophile accusations aren't helping him either.

Let's nor forget in previous interviews she revealed that the original suit theu had was black with jsut a purple belt on the leg. She did a lot of work on outfit alone and I praise her for this. Bryan Singer even removed a lot of scenes she said she made and wasn't included. Fix totally ruined everything as they just follow character's basic ideas and powers, nothing detailed ever. Even for Wolverine

Yo fave stylist in da hood is back boys and girls spilling wardrobe malfunctions.

The tea fan fact of today: Fox's X-Men Tittycalypse Psylocke.

Olivia Munn spilled the beans: ''They lube me down and I step into this latex. We did a whole latex fitting.''

Interestingly enough, in an interview I read way back when with Olivia Munn just before the abysmal Apocalypse film debuted, I questioned some of her own Psylocke knowledge. I am not sure if it was paraphrased, but she herself seemed to have false and/or confused narratives in place regarding the character’s history. This doesn’t dismiss the fact that Singer and that other cat are true hacks. Just not sure I would consider her knowledge pristine enough to be checking other folks.

@Rahsaan I'll start with the categorical statement that talented actors need to play in films and not cover models because the results are indeed abysmal. It is the obsession for the superficial that the Hollywood industry suffers at the box office among other things. Olivia Munn's single asset was her resemblance to Kwannon. Nevertheless, her performance was lackluster matching the rest of cast crew. I know she played little part in Apocalypse but her other appearances haven't been stellar either. Singer and his associates are not only hacks and perverts but also bad casting directors. Let's pray Marvel Studios won't repeat the same Fox mistakes.
