Nice preview.

It also makes me wonder: we've been discussing how Marvel should promote actual Asian mutants instead of putting Betsy in another person's body, and, well... Hisako is quite a good choice for that. She used to be an important character back in the Whedon days, and her power is interesting. If the creative team could just develop her personality into something original (so far she's the typical angsty teenager), I could easily see her becoming an A-list X-Man (...X-Woman).

I'm proud of Marvel at this moment. Age of X-Man writers focused on Armor and Nature Girl and showed parts of their personalities and powers never explored in the past. Whedon's format was superior in story and character beyond that here Armor and Nature Girl are absolutely satisfactory.

Armor is Japanese like Surge an ignored X-Man from Japan who shined in AOXM. Jubilee's final issue in the X-Tremists will be explosive as promised by Leah Williams and she with Nature Girl are fantastic Chinese X-Women.

With Sunfire, Yukio, Daken and Zero there are enough Japanese X-Men and allies.

Karma is Vietnamese Asian and leader of New Mutants an important figure also a queer and disabled character. Make her bionic leg into a gun weapon and go to town with her.

Sway is from Hong Kong and controls time. Mondo is Pacific Islander Asian and controls matter. So I prefer this kind of Asian representation to that of naked ninjas from Japan.

I know some of you are skeptical. We have every reason to be jaded based on how Marvel has allowed the X-Men to be written since the 00s, but I am hopeful about this upcoming run.

If this is true, it wouldn't really be a reboot... more like a retcon of mutantkind's origins. A reboot would involve EVERYTHING changing, to the point where the X-Men would be completely different people than they are right now.

For anyone familiar with the JoJo's Bizarre Adventures manga, it would be like the transition from Part 6 to Part 7, where the arc's villain managed to rewind time before dying, and from then on, things happen VERY differently to the point where Part 8 is supposed to take place on the same period from Parts 4-6, yet almost every character from the old timeline (including all the protagonists) don't exist anymore, several new ones who didn't exist back then exist now, and in the rare cases where someone similar from the old universe still exists, they're only similar in name.

Nevertheless, I'm also hopeful. Hickman is getting inspiration on the X-Men Vol.2's first arc and on Morrison's New X-Men, so it's hard to mess with that.

@Rahsaan oh gee, thanks! I'm happy to make others smile though I believe there are some that want me slowly cooked in hot fire for telling truths that hurt their headcanon. I can't zip my big mouth.

Hickman has a vision for the X-Men unless he doesn't cancel the role of Celestials creating the mutants in the universe. Ultimate Marvel universe was lame because Bendis had a big influence in it so I don't want ultimate to spill over to the 616 Prime universe.

I wish Hickman doesn't retcon Betsy to be something other than her original self and mess with her race again or with Otherworld and Captain Britain's origin. I pray he leaves the X-Men members as they are in personality and continuity because their long trip up to now made them strong and wise.

As an example the bad experiences Psylocke had from lots of brain washings and abuse made her a warrior, despite how bad they make us feel. The influence of Mystique and Destiny on Rogue and later Carol Danvers and Xavier made Rogue an X-Woman and Avenger.

@randybear I kinda dig the buzz cut on Armor it's fresh and I'd like her to get a personal uniform as well as Pixie, Anole, Rockslide, Blob, Nature Girl, Ernst, Prodigy and Surge.

@FSaker the JoJo mechanics explain the things Hickman wants to do. Nice! I try to keep a positive mind the legacy won't be rewritten and something new will be added without wrecking the decades old structure which already exists.

This theory of a reboot/retcon reminded me of something: there used to be a forum for X-Men readers where many of them complained of how the serious mutantkind themes (persecution, prejudice and so on) would often be ignored by the greater Marvel universe - and right after Secret Wars, some of them were supporting the idea that, rather than returning to the main universe, mutantkind was brought to a different universe, which would still show mutants facing the problems they always did and trying to live in harmony with humankind, but without the existence of other heroes like the Avengers or the Inhumans. This way, they considered it would be possible to keep the story evolving like it was happening in Morrison's run.

But even if this happened now with Hickman (and I doubt he will separate the X-Men from the rest of Marvel universe), I don't think this evolution would be possible, thanks to comic books having a habit of repeating themselves from time to time...

@Kiki, well, I guess Hickman won't be as radical as Araki (JJBA's creator) was - or he would have to erase the vast majority of the well-known X-Men in favor of brand-new characters. I doubt most readers would like that... I know that I wouldn't like Psylocke to be erased from existence, for example.

But yeah, maybe a lighter version of what Araki did could work, as long as our favorite X-Men are still around.

@FSaker JoJo is a manga that deals with the legacy of the Joestar family using time jumps. It looks shaky but is connected with magic and reincarnations. A smart way to tell new stories and keep the legacy in a work without time travels all the time.

The X-Men are like the Joestars a family extended in time and space the idea Hickman wants to evolve without alternate timelines caused by time travel. The trick with X-Men is they are individuals very distinct from one another so there's the thin line he has to look out for. Might be a clean house move to combine different stories that different writers did for the X-Men in prime continuity and elseworlds which Hickman will unite with a greater goal. The feels will be familiar and new once it hits off.

Just read the issue what a complete waste of time! I really liked the first issue but the rest of this series dragged on.

So ready for this event to be done forever

It's a good omen to see Asian representation be prevalent and important in Age of X-Man. When the X-Men return in the normal reality I want Armor, Nature Girl and Jubilee to retain their power upgrades and higher statuses. Also the other lesser Asian mutants mentioned by you people to start stepping out of the shadows and begin to matter.

Hickman I guess will put his best effort to heal the scars left on the X-Men by the confrontation of Disney and Fox over the rights and spirit of the franchise. We need to have patience and believe in the writer to deliver a compelling story.
