I feel so sad for these characters. Betsy, Bobby, JP and Jubilee should join a support group to deal with the consequences of what they've done.

This book, this whole crossover... is an abomination of writing.

It should be scoured from continuity.

Psylocke and Blob aren't helpless people. Jubilee and Iceman aren't anarchists. Kill it with fire and never let this writer ruin another Marvel comic. Ever! They made Iceman gay auntie, Psylocke bi bulimic, Blob weak sad sack and Jubilee bipolar clown. Stop just effing stop Marvel! You are destroying the X-Men with that woke tender shit.

Feels kind of anti-climax this ending for them....
Maybe some better attention is given to them in the Omega event.
Hardly would be worse than this...

After the tsunami of headtripper writers Marvel has employed to create Age of X-Man I'm not surprised the hippie and kewl kids lay waste on the X-Men. Every single ending feels anticlimactic and dumb. Psylocke should come out of the Age of X-Man stronger than ever and not weak sauce who acts insecure again. The starring cast of the X-tremists is a misnomer to their true identities and should be considered head canon at best, masturbatory flick at worst.

I like how they showed Psylocke barely able to escape a house that caught fire. Like shes a fucking ninja she has escaped crazier things like explosions etc lmao they went too grounded with this mini

We haven't discussed Emma shading Kwannon in the last issue of Uncanny. And her correction to that man blackmailing her that Kwannon and Betsy are two different people.

Or Mystique using the image of Betsy in Kwannon's body to get the best of Kwannon.

Until Kwannon (we need a troll name for her) intersects with Psylocke we wont be blogging on that has been.

I'll talk about Kwannon all day if you like!

It's hard to know what that writer is going for. Since she has been introduced we've barely been given anything to tell us what or who she is.

What we do know is that she IS Kwannon, and she has all the fighting/ninja skills you'd expect, as well as telepathy and the ability to generate psychic blades.

She also seems to retain some sort of affinity or allegiance to the X-Men. She helped Wolverine several times, and returned with him willingly even though the X-Men were keeping her captive.

But what has also been hinted is that she might have some sort of memory loss. And based on the last issue of Uncanny, and Mystique's deception, perhaps some level of trauma OR identity issues regarding the whole body swap saga.

She certainly doesn't react to Mystique copying her current appearance, but does get shaken by Mystique turning into 90's ninja looking Psylocke.

Despite the writing, I like what little we have seen of this new Kwannon so far.

But with nothing being mentioned about either of my two favourite purple haired women going forward, I'm worried that either both are going to be sidelined... or that the few positive things that have been done with them lately will be swept away.

I'll be massively disappointed if both don't keep their current costumes!

Also, Kwannon needs a confirmed codename. Whether that's the Japanese word for nothing, or something new.

Marvel give Kwannon cancer to die same as Legacy Virus and get rid of her. I can't allow Mortal Combat in my X-Men books. DC changed the Red Hood to the Asian mystic poop and flopped. Emma Frost and Mystique made fun of Kwannon and beaten her up without mercy was the best part of Uncanny X-Men.

I love it! Hope shes ignored or killed soon

@Benjamin, that's what I'm wondering if Mystique's use of Bets in Kwannon's body triggered a flashback for Kwannon of her time with the X-Men and all the confusion and anger and resolve she felt once she awoke from her coma, was deceived, sought out the truth, and ultimately accepted her fate... Only to be restored anew now.

As for Betsy, Jordan White confirmed that there are plans for her in the Hickman era. He didn't say if that will be in House of X and Powers of Ten/Powers of X or if it will be in the titles that spin out from this summer's events with Hickman directing all the X Office writers in this summer's wake. I'm hopeful and excited to see what comes next for both women!

Even if shes not included in the powers and house minis that event will be over fast so it won't be too long before we see Psylocke again. People are worried but they always freak out when shes not in previews and yet she always manages a noticeable role lol Marvel realizes Psylocke is popular they aren't going to drop her.

@randybear,

Baby steps... At least no one assumed that she is being killed off this time. All progress with our community here is good. Even the incremental kind.

Psylocke has nothing to fear of Kwannon. Nobody can claim Betsy's codename and identity again because it would be unimaginative and a bad joke on loop.

I have to tell the truth I liked the puns and shade that Rosenberg has thrown to Fabian Nicieza via the battles of Emma and Mystique against Kwannon for misinterpreting Claremont's plot to create a racial mess. As a character Kwannon will be always viewed as Betsy's jacket/kimono and there are more prominent X-Men and heroes of Asian origin than her.

Rahsaan said...

@Jaime, we often agree and I think that sometimes people here misinterpret tone or sentiment, but as someone who enjoys you in our community, I want to ask you to be cognizant of using kimono to inferred as objectifying and racist. Even though Kwannon is fictional, she represents Japanese people in the lore that we love, so I would caution that we all be a bit more careful when discussing her and how Asian members of our community might feel with our descriptions of her. I was not always a fan, but I am intrigued by her as she is being written now (save for her having telepathy and psychic knives).I think referring to her body as in impersonal terms when it was inhabited by Psylocke a white character is objective enough, but calling the actual character who represents Asian women a kimono could be hurtful to some. Again, I respect and like you and hope that you don't feel like I'm attacking you. Just thought you might appreciate how your word choice might be taken by Asian community members.

Jaime Braz said...

@Rahsaan I'm glad if it sounds offensive to Asian people because it conveys the exact crime Nicieza committed to a then new Asian character. Nicieza took the worst route a writer could choose to introduce his character of color. He literally used Kwannon as a kimono for Betsy and he has to be reprimanded. I'm just the messenger so don't shoot me. Shoot Nicieza who preferred to lock Psylocke into body swap mode of Yellowface, ushering cultural appropriation and fetish imagery of Asian women skimpily dressed as ninjas which is labeled cultural stereotyping. Manga and anime fans don't get in too deep about identity politics the reason why Yellowface Psylocke was accepted in Japan through video games because Japanese people were unaware of the racist story of the body swap unfolding in Western comics at the time.

I would never mistake your comments as personal attacks towards anybody because you are always respectful and logic in your interactions with people on this fan page. Sometimes you have to press the nuclear button and go all out when you discuss a delicate and controversial topic like racebending of an established White character like Elizabeth Braddock. It is the only way to raise awareness of how damaging is to treat a newly introduced fictional character of color as a piece of tribal clothing for the said White character to wear. We will never see outrage against Daken, Armor, Jubilee, Sunfire or Surge due to their development being respectful to Chinese and Japanese people.
