X-Force #1 First Look

I would love it if Bets is just a telepath highly-trained in martial arts and covert ops in this series. If you all recall, British Bets was part of STRIKE. That coupled with her Hand training is more than sufficient. Let's drop all the psychic weaponry we're now seeing in adjectiveless. Hell, get rid of the notorious "focused totality of my telepathic powers" while we're at it too. Long live the psycho-blast and all her other old tricks.

All these power set changes just make the character unnecessarily overburdened more than she already has been since the 90s. The character has enough backstory from
her Acts of Vengence and pre-Siege Perilous days to be viably drive story in the new X-Force. And she has spy experience that's never addressed!

I agree with you. When she was not a ninja, she was way more creative in using her powers and that was nice to see because her participation called attention because of the creativity with which she used her powers. The mind tricks in the australian team were awesome!

I didn't like the idea of the recent TK weaponry. It just seemed silly to me and doesn't make sense, really. I mean, why does she need to aim and shoot an arrow, or anything, when her TK should be instantaneous? It's a silly gimmick.

She doesn't need MORE weaponry and I'd hate to see her TK be done away with. Instead, what I've always wanted writers to do is use her TK to augment, and empower, her physical capabilities.

Of all the TP/TK power set users, Psylocke is the only one (lol I think) that is also a superb hand-to-hand combatant. I mean she is supposed to be a ninja, right? Wouldn't it be a natural thing to go, "hey, I can make myself hit harder and move faster if I needed to." She isn't a glorified Lantern and doesn't need the constructs.

Just too many writers. They don't stick around as long as they used to.

Well, she isn't using any powers in this page (unless she's using telepathy), so it may be early to judge if her powers are being shown as they should be or not.

I like this art style a lot. It makes me remember of Clayton Crain's art for some reason, and that's a great thing.

Now, I just hope this book is written as well as it is drawn. Betsy deserves to be in a great comic book, and although currently she's already in one (Storm's X-Men book), I fear that the recent revelations about Brian Wood's behavior towards certain women who worked in the comic book industry may lead Adjectiveless X-Men to a possible cancellation in 2014 (or to Marvel replacing Wood with a writer that won't be as good as him), so if this happens, X-Force NEEDS to be great to keep Betsy appearing in GOOD stories.

Speaking of Wood' X-book, he gave an interview to Newsarama about it, and there are colored (though unlettered) pages of the next issue: http://www.newsarama.com/19756-lady-deathstrike-returns-with-surprising-new-allies-in-x-men.html

@vigmed

That's how she was using her TK in X-Treme X-Men with Claremont way back when. She only had her sword and was using her TK to provide non-lethal hits and keep things away from her. They even demonstrated how she could keep away from Rogue, who had the Ms. Marvel power set then. I agree, if they are gonna keep her TK, this is how it should be used. She has always been an "action junkie" and physical fighter, not a weapon or distance combatant.

JD,

She does utilize distance combat when she psycho-blasts. However, she does do that at close-range too. Speaking of the psycho-blast and her telepathy in general... haven't seen her really do much with it since Remender stopped writing her. I'd love to see more of her old-school tricks, like those she played on Freedom Force and the Marauders and the New Horsemen.
