Psylocke #1 Spoilers

Spoilers: In Utopia, Psylocke and Dazzler help the New X-Men to defeat Sack. Alison then convinces Betsy to check on her former dead body. Dr. Nemesis confirms the corpse is indeed real, and Psylocke decides to travel to Japan to re-enter it in its proper resting place. Wolverine goes along with Betsy and both get aboard the X-Jet. Meanwhile, Betsy reflects on her life and feels frustrated because she didn't feel any connection to her former body. For her, all that's left are memories from another life because she can't really feel them. The Japanese police orders Psylocke to land immediately for the X-Men are not welcome in the country. Betsy uses her telepathy on the sergeant in order to leave her alone. She also telepathically makes them take the coffin to the graveyard under a heavy police escort. At the cemetery, a swarm of Hand ninjas attack Psylocke, and a deadly battle is ensued. Betsy soon realizes they're not trying to kill her, that they're just after the body. However, it's too late, as one of the Ninjas completely destroys the corpse, turning it into dust. He tells Psylocke that Matsu'o sent his regards. Betsy feels like the last link to her former life is now gone and commits herself to kill Matsu'o.

The story seems to be great from your description!

But one thing I don't understand is: why does she want to kill Matsu'o if she wasn't feeling any connection to her former body herself? Shouldn't a visit to him with a sword in his throat to make him explain his actions be enough?

BTW, will you show some scans of the magazine? Of course, I won't ask you to put ALL the pages since that would be a lot of work and we don't want Marvel trying to shut your blog down for scanning the whole book; just the pages you consider the most relevant ones or the most beautifully-drawn ones.

And I read your comment at CBR mentioning that Yost shows a lot of Betsy's thoughts... I just hope he doesn't do this in the same way as Claremont's verborragic internal monologues.

FSaker, she felt the corpse was the only link, the only thing left from her former life because the memories didn't even seem to belong to her anymore.

It's not verborragic, but as she's all by herself, she doesn't have anyone else to share a dialogue. Wolverine just vanishes after the police order them to land.

I can't only post four or five scans tops. :( Marvel complained when I posted 9 pages from sword of the braddocks, lol.

Thanks, luckystar! If you could post a couple of the best pages, that would be awesome.

WHAAAAA ???? =S
Elizabteh´s original body turned to dust ? This so feels like when Kwanon´s original body died at the hands of VARGAS u_u

So it´s oficial no british body comeback. I was hoping for Kwanon to return in Betsy´s body U_U

here's an idea...we could always just buy it instead?

FSaker said...

Sure, when this issue is launched in Brazil, I'll definitely buy it. The problem is, it will take at least a year for it to be launched here...

I had to admit that I was very afraid of the reasons for the killing. Since the first description from the series as "ultimate, unspeakble offense" from Matsuo, my first tought was something about rape.
At least there´s nothing like that in the mini. :)

I knew the body would be destroyed. The issue was alright. You can definitely feel Elizabeth's disconnection from herself. So many changes have happened to her, none of which she asked for.

The internal monologues were good. Just enough to keep the flow without turning into CC dribble. I just wish the issue was a few pages longer or the whole run four issues instead of three.

i thinks its easy to talk when you can buy it today in your country...
can you imagine how do we feel, listening to you guys talking about all things...and cant feel it...of course if we are true psylocke fans we will buy it...but we cant do it NOW, we have to wait till it comes to our country..can you understand it?
or you want to buy it for us send it to our country??
loool
keep the good work luckystar

hi, as i've promised here is the plot of x-girls: gals on the run.
In the Madripoor island the x-girls (Psylocke, Storm, Rouge and Shadowcat) face a group of "modern pirates" (Betsy shows to have tk as she destroys an helicopter: here the scan http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4075491601/sizes/l/ ) which has abducted Rachel, but the rescue operation is more complicated than the girls have thought as Rachel seems to betrays her companions, even if Kitty says that Rachel says her telepathycally to trust and favour her, and when they try to escape flying away they are hit by a beam which deprives them of their powers so that they fall. Miraculously they saves themselves.
At this point we are informed on hoe all the story started. Rouge has inherited a villa on a Greek island, Kirinos, and so the x-girls have left for a holiday, an entire week of relax. But while the girls were having fun, dancing and singing (scans: http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4075491225/sizes/l/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4076244814/sizes/l/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4075492589/sizes/l/ ), Rachel is abducted and an explosion would have killed the others if Betsy hadn't saved them bringing all in safe (again by using her tk).
Here we come back to the beginning of the story. Kitty understands what Rachel has said to her: the villains have closed the Xavier Institute into a "Bobble", a stasis field which freezes all that is inside of it, and that's why they tried to kill the x-girls, who weren't in the Xavier Institute, in Greece. Moreover, the villains abducted Emma Frost and Rachel because they need them to make something work.
But if the x-girls has escaped from these villains, they are captured by the legendary tribe of the South Seas which venerates the planes as gods (scan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4075493051/sizes/l/ ). The girls are treated as slaves (Betsy feeds the pigs: here the scan http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4076246072/sizes/l/ ) and during this period Kitty understands that the villains use Emma and Rachel to increase the power beam that cancel mutant power used in a secret war betwen India and China. Meanwhile, the villains attacks the tribe and so the x-girls and it team up against them (scan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4076247108/sizes/l/ ). Fortunally the leader of the tribe is a mutant with the power of inhibit the combustion and that produces a total black out in Madripoor which make the cancel-beam-machine not to work. The x-girl have their power back and face again the villains, led by the baroness Krieg who is a mutant with the power to cancel mutant powers (the machine increased her power)(scan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/72303376@N00/4076248404/sizes/l/ ). The girls defeat the enemies and save the world.
that's all i think.

again, sorry for my english and for the quality of the scans.

RIP: British Betsy.

My question is how much of British Betsy is left in Psylocke's Asian body?

Nicce thanks! But the pics won't show up. It asks for your flick password. Cans you just give the .jpg links?

didn't like it. his plot making her feel nothing towards her english past is just more of marvel trying to make everyone forget about it as well. psylocke's prominent identity shouldn't be angry ninja killing people in japan. she should be a charming, beautiful, british telepath on the inside first and foremost. she is not kwannon.

FSaker said...

@Centurion - You mean, in terms of physical traits or in terms of personality?

Fortunately, in both cases I think there is still some of British Betsy's characteristics in the Asian body. Physically, Spiral mixed her traits with Kwannon's so that they would look quite similar (let´s remember that in Acts of Vengeance, Wolverine recognized Betsy not by her smell, but BY HER FACE, even though it was altered). In terms of personality, Betsy still has her typical British sarcasm, her sense of humor (that X-Men Unlimited story where Logan recounts one time when they went to a bar to drink beer and make fun of each other shows that).

The current X-writers just need to remember that. Fortunately, it seems Yost is remembering.

No, I don't think so. If anything, it shows her frustation about not being able to connect herself to her former self. I'm sure this is something it will be touched on later. I think this is just what Psylocked needed. To show her feelings about everything that happened to her.

FSaker said...

Hey LuckyStar, let me ask you something: the second issue of X-Men vs. Agents of Atlas was released yesterday too, wasn't it? Does Psylocke appear in more panels besides the preview ones with her destroying a statue and then being beaten by Namora?

Oh, and also, CBR posted the preview pages for X-Force #21, and Psylocke appears in one of the pages, fighting three undead mutants alongside Dazzler. And I must say, Crain draws a very pretty Betsy!!

Unknown said...

I agree with you Dr. Doom. I really felt for Betsy in this issue. Everything she was has been taken away from her and all she has left is action and violence.

Personally though, I hope she doesn't kill Matsu'o, but instead makes peace with herself and her new life.

Thanks for the summary and scans Nicce!

luckystar. said...

Yeah. I don't think they're trying to make her forget her past, but rather remember it.

@FSaker, Pyslocke and Wolverine are knocked out in the beginning. Lol

I'm going to post the X-Force preview now.

Oh thank you nicce!!! ♥ I'm going to post about it later. But I can't see these images either. :/

I think she's so confused because originally she was defined as the seemingly frail model turned superhero in the very girlish pink uniforms who while good at attacking from a distance she didn't have a good track record with physical combat.

She finally gets her hearts desire to become a warrior but only after a body switch she didn't ask for. Her powers get altered some, she inherits muscle memory & fighting skills that belonged to someone else.

Now instead of being defined as the girl in pink with the psycho blast your the girl in blue/black with the assortment of psy-weapons & shinobi skills. Non of which you personally trained yourself for.

Seeing someone else walk around in your old body but with a different personality & then having that body die is got to be quite traumatic. Not to mention you & your twin don't even look like blood relatives now.
