Land definitely doesn't know how to pencil a fighting scene.

i think it looks great in most of the pictures but Wolverine's body looks ilke a giant ear in one of them. British Betsy's face and hair don't really match each page and she has a different look than her return in 508. i like that they gave her curly hair in one but do not like her face in the scene where wolverine is about to slice her neck.

Why is she fighting with her psy-knife blazing all the time? It seems to me that it was psylockes coup de grace and not a sparring weapon.

Awful issue.Totally awful.

"Land definitely doesn't know how to pencil a fighting scene."

Yes, he doesn't. Such a shame Fraction gave his alleged "best fighting scene he ever wrote" to Land to draw it. Let's hope Dodson does a better work with Psylocke (and preferentially giving her a new outfit; even if it's still her damn ninja bathing suit, he should at least give it an update to make it match the other X-Men's uniforms...).

But as a straight guy, I must say seeing British Betsy teaming up with Lady Deathstrike is hotness at its best!! Sorry, but I had to say it...

As I understood tthe issue, the whole arc actaullay, it's not British Betsy, that's just Kwannon, so when the arc is done, Psylocke, who's still prisioner of the Red Queen, will join the X-Men.

And I'm giving for a fact that Kwannon's going to die.

PoP said...

i think if they were going to kill kwannon they would have done it in this issue though. i really hope they keep her around. it would be a good plot device but i hardly think they would have her around during the stupid Dark X-men story so maybe you're right.

i don't like the way Dodson draws Psylocke either. in the book going through Cyclops's mind they had Psylocke in it and she had these tiny little slanted eyes and a slit nose. i guess he was trying to emphasize she was Asian but it looked ugly and weird. i like the way Greg Land drew Asian Psylocke especially her dark purple hair, but she didn't look Asian at all.

Hmm i liked the issue, and im one of the people that dosent have a huge problem with land.I thought his Phoenix ensong was beautiful. But maybe he is more suited to mini-series etc.
Oh and yeah i think its kwannon back in the brittish body.I HOPE they dont kill her tho,its not her fault shes being controled.

I think it's unlikely that the woman in the British body is Kwannon or anyone else that isn't Erath-616 Betsy. From what I understand, Red Queen developed a method to put the life force (soul, mind, call it whatever you want) from one body into another; after all, isn't this exactly what she wants to do with herself, putting her bodyless soul into Jean's cloned body?

It wouldn't make sense if her method just revived people... I mean, WHY would she want to revive Jean, who would most likely be against her deeds and destroy her?

I think we'll only understand Logan's actions and the truth behind Psylocke's comeback in the next issue (which apparently comes out on June 10th, right? It won't take long for us to find out the answers...).

I hated this issue for many reason.. The art being one. and The Big Return being a huge letdown. Although I think British Psylocke is here to stay.

why is everyone forgetting about the future cover of 512 where she's asian and the future cover of Dark Avengers where she's also asian AND wearing her asian ninja thong suit?? i believe wolverine said it best when he said "this ain't my teammate". british girl =/= betsy.

FSaker said...

Well, someone at CBR posted a theory; it could work: maybe just a part of Betsy's soul/mind/life force/whatever went to the British body, so Logan felt it wasn't really her because just a small part of her soul would be in it. In that case, the Asian body didn't die, just went unconscious but still holds the majority of Betsy's soul.

Yes, it sounds weird. Then again, many things in this story arc sound weird, so...

She was Asian on the cover of 510, and British on the inside. You know why? Because the artists simply didn't know about the body switch, so they just draw a generic ninja bathing suit Psylocle. It's that simple.

Well,Fraction wrote the Utopia one-shot,so he must have told Silvestri whether to draw Asian ninja Betsy or English Betsy.Still, anything is possible...

I hope Asian Psylocke comes back with Sabretooth from AoA and save all the X-Men, shock them with their relationship, and decline the invitation to come back to X-Men team because now she is 'too big' for this team since she has travelled the omniuniverse and protected it.

It's time for her to have a bigger role in the Marvel Universe than being a psych shadow of Emma, Jean or Professor X.

Spiral also may have pulled a fast one too. She seemed desperate to prevent Wolverine from killing the brit bod. And Wolverine was sure that this was not his team mate, maybe because the psychic bond with her was not there.

To me it's obvious that she will stay Asian, which personally after seeing this issue, I definately prefer.

So many theories, making my head wanna explode! Wait, wasn't that a storyline that CC had in mind for Betsy a few years ago...? Never mind.

I didn't like "The Return" in the slightest, false advertise if you ask me, this wasn't Psylocke.

Hey, wasn't anybody disgusted by the fact that CreepyLogan had kept a lock of Jean's hair? I mean, for the cloning to work (yes, I'm assuming a cloning here), the Sisters would need to at least have some hair strains with intact hair follicles, which means that Creepylogan must have RIPPED OUT some of Jean's hairs! I wont even speculate what he must have done with that lock of hair in his "private time". Yeiks!

FSaker said...

It makes me wonder if he also has a lock of Betsy's hair... or Mariko's... Yukio's... Daken's mom's...

"So many theories, making my head wanna explode! Wait, wasn't that a storyline that CC had in mind for Betsy a few years ago...?"

Yup, and I hope that storyline is dead and buried forever! I'm grateful for all the great work Claremont did to Betsy in the 80s and in the beginning of the 90s, but he has already messed her up enough lately to come with this one more idea against her...

Giles said...

IMO, Logan is just one in a line of X-core characters whose past have been "destroyed" by the writers in the last few years. This latest "revelation" about Logan keeping a lock of Jean's hair is just sick. No, it's not romantic, it's not cute, it's just plain S*I*C*K!

I would have liked to say that Betsy's smile in the last panel could have been a sign of a telepatic-101 between her and Logan, but....EVERYBODY IN THIS DAMN ISSUE KEPT SMILING OR LAUGHING THE WHOLE TIME! I really understand now why people have issues with Land's drawing! I mean, come on man! Maybe Land is secretly sponsored by Pepsodent? I don't know, I'm stil so disappointed about Betsy's "big" return - this issue seemed more of a tehe-Jean Grey-will-tehe-return-soon-issue. Maybe Betsy was better of staying in exile (no pun intended) from the 616 universe...

FSaker said...

Nah, I'm glad she's back to the main universe. The Exiles were a nice change of scenario for Betsy (such a shame it was so poorly written), but she belongs to the X-Men. Even if her portrayal in Uncanny isn't the best one, at least her return allows her to be used in other X-titles (Legacy, X-Force, maybe even X-Factor) and in important Marvel storylines (like Utopia and possibly the third Messiah saga), so with so many writers currently involved with the X-verse, she will eventually get the nice characterization she deserves.

Giles said...

Yeah, you're right F, we can only hope that other writers will see the great opportunity in front of them and DEMAND to have Betsy to play with!

And PLEASE let it be farFARawayfrom; CreepyLogan, Bozoclops, and last but not least, Gypsy Tart and her amazing Clones.

Yes, I'm in a bad mood today.

Selene said...

*chuckles*Gypsy tart,I love your style,my darling Giles!

Anyway,so much for Psylocke's return,if Fraction thinks he's going to progress Betsy by sticking her in a Wolverine/Emma/Pixie/Cyclops fan-fiction,then I should just drop that bloody book again.

Anonymous said...

i dropped uncanny after they took betsy out of it out of the blue last time, i really hope this time she sticks around and does something relevant. i'm so sick of this sisterhood, science club stuff. i know theyre going to bring magneto in the picture after dark x-men, so i guess that will be much more interesting. guess i just gotta wait a half a year. i wish we could just skip dark xmen altogether. i feel only fans of other marvel books will be into it.

Just two more weeks until #511! Please Fraction, don't F*@k Betsy up (Like Exile-Creed did)!
