X-Position: Chris Claremont

Claremont talks about the upcoming "X-Men Forever" in his first X-Position. There's also some Psylocke info . It seems that in "Forever", Betsy leaves the X-Men and returns to England (To be a member of Excalibur, maybe?). There are some preview art in this article too. When I asked Claremont about Psylocke a while ago, he told me that:

"I assume Betsy's on her way back to Mainstream Marvel and a reunion with Brian and the rest of the X-Canon. My own vision of the character, I'll be carrying on in X-Men: Forever, which will debut in roughly a couple of months (mid-June, with an issue seeing print every fortnight.) I hope you enjoy it."

So if you miss CC's Psylocke, she will most likely guest-star in "Forever" at some point.

1) I'm a huge fan of your work and am very excited for “X-Men Forever” so we can see what you truly intended! What can we look forward to with Psylocke and Dazzler? There was no Revanche at this time, and Dazzler had not yet gone to Mojoworld with Longshot. Will we see some very divergent paths for these characters outside of what we got under other writers in the 90s, or are they not really on the radar?

Claremont: Thanks for your kind words, Ben. I very much look forward to hearing your response to the book itself when the run itself starts. As for these characters, Betsy is back in the UK with Brian. Dazzler, I suspect, is still on the “road” with Longshot. As for what the future has in store for them, you’ll simply have to wait and see.

2) I keep noticing that in preview art for “X-Men Forever” we see several X-Men except for Psylocke, Banshee, Forge, Colossus, Iceman and Archangel. Will we be seeing these characters in the series? And am I right to assume we will see Shadowcat and Nightcrawler in the book even though they were not members at the time?

Claremont: Simplest answers: yes, we’ll be touching base with all the X-canon characters over the course of time, though perhaps not necessarily in the way folks expect. As regards Kitty and Kurt, their presence will be defined in the first arc.

Honestly, for me personally, this feels like New Exiles 2.0. I don't care how or in what form CC use "this" Betsy, not now that our Real Girl is back in the 616 Universe, doing stuff that really matters. Although, it would be nice to see Betsy (in XMF) withouth the tongkini.

Such a pity that she was cut from the X-Men in this project; if there is one title where Claremont could do whatever he wanted with Betsy without anyone complaining about it, that would be X-Men Forever. It's quite weird, too, considering he did put her in the team in X-Men #1-3...

Oh well, I hope she gets a nice treatment in it, even if she hardly ever appears in it. I read last year that part of his plans back then involved her having her head blown up by a mysterious villain; I hope X-Men Forever will never use this idea... (then again, it could be just a lie from the person that wrote this in a forum)

I think it is so stupid he cut her from the team in the first place. She was on his team before he left from X-men 1-3 and this is when the story picks up. And instead he goes and adds Kitty Pryde randomly! (ughhh). I always thought Psylocke was his favorite character. It's too bad she had already been changed into a ninja by this time because I'd like a British Betsy in this book.

I wouldn't doubt if CC brought in Betsy at some point down the road, he's probably just building up to and didn't want to make an obvious choice of having her one of the major players. That's what I thought was going to happen at least! Don't care though I'm through with his work.

guys, CC loves betsy, that`s the first team cc cuts her off since psylocke`s introduction to the x-cannon.

just one thought, remember all the bashing about CC writing betsy in NEX? I guess he just got his revenge....

:( such a pity, i wanted psylocke galore...

Not sure where the ideal place to ask this would be, but where do you think the best place to start reading about Pyslocke would be? I was liked the character as a kid without knowing much about her, and seeing her in the new issues of x-men has piqued my interest. Keep in my mind I know basically nothing about her, i.e. that were multiple bodies and death etc. What are the "canonical" psylocke stories?

Well, you could start with the Captain Britain stories in the 70s and 80s; back then she was just Betsy, she wasn't a x-woman (or a superheroine) yet.

Or you could search for the New Mutants Annual #2; where she's rescued by the New Mutants and decides to study in the Xavier Institute (but she only becomes a x-woman in the end of the Mutant Massacre saga).
