Uncanny X-Men #509 Cover Pencils!

Finally! The pencils and ink for Greg Land's Uncanny X-Men #509 cover have been revealed through the Fanfare website. It's the same image used as background for a Matt Fraction interview back in February: Psylocke half-Asian and half-British. Uncanny #509 features Part 2 of the Sisterhood arc and is long rumored to be the issue where Psylocke returns to the 616 Universe! On sale April 29. Thanks Matt for the info!

so pretty. greg should have made half of her face look Asian though. i wish she stayed british for a change but i know she won't.

This cover is beautiful, and it will probably look completely astonishing after colored!

But it raises some doubts: will her telepathy be back? If so, will it come back as her psychic dagger or as the psychic butterfly (or - hopefully - both)? Will she return British or Asian? Lavender hair or purple hair? Will she lose the telekinesis (I hope so!)? Will she be wearing the New Exiles outfit, the ninja buttfloss suit (I hope NOT!!), the hooded armor, the 80s pink suit (which I always thought looked like pajamas, but it looks brilliant in this Greg Land cover), or a new suit?

So many doubts... and it will be awesome to find out these answers in April! Let's see how Fraction will surprise us...

FSaker-
the artist already said they did not design a new costume for betts, and in a preview to a future book she's asian :/ she looks exactly the same as she did years ago in uncanny i guess they are just going to bring her back without being refreshing and cleaning all the power mix up and all that.

they just need to bring back betsy and start off with the original betsy with a clean slate. none of this mumbo jumbo that keeps building and building going nowhere.

So it means she will come back to her ninja buttfloss bathing suit? Man, that sucks... Well, if Land and Dodson at least make it a little less revealing (like, say, fully covering her butt) and give it a more modern feel (like the current outfits for Nightcrawler, Colossus and even Wolverine), it could be nice.

Anyway, I fully agree with what you said: starting off with Betsy with a clean slate would be more than necessary. But as long as Fraction doesn't mess with her more than she's been already messed (and I have faith he will do a good job writing her), that's already something.

I gotta wonder...Red Queen bragged about being able to bring back the dead in Uncanny 503 or 504. Given this cover, could this mean that Revanche will be brought back?

I aldo wonder about her ressurecting Revanche.

What I keep thinking about is how they chose to add in that older story that was told from Wolverine's point of view at the end of the Sword of the Braddocks. It ends with "no more Betsy". Why would they re-hash that story?

So what if they do bring back Revanche, in Betsys's old body and by some kind of comic book twist get her original asian body back and then she's kind of the new Psylocke? It would leave Betsy open to coming back all English some day.

Far fetched I know, but it is comics after all, fun to think about.

It's not just you that thinks that way, I mean, they could have done the story in another way... Keep Betsy in her original body and if they wanted to give her ninja training, why not do what was done to Jesse Bedlam and implant some master ninja's fighting skills on Betsy. That way her original body was still there and a lot of confusion would be avoided.

I think your right, if they let Revanche be the Asian ninja telepath and let Betsy be a more kick-ass in her British body, it would be much less confusing.

But who gets the codename Psylocke?

I'm not understanding why Psylocke wouldn't be a ninja in her old body??
It's a memory, something she learned when she was body swapped.
Also when Revanche came back thinking she was Psylocke (in Betsy's old body) she still knew martial arts. So why wouldn't Psylocke??

Astonishingly enough, Revanche had to re-learn her martial arts training, apparently Betsy got all the skills Kwannon had. For some reason, all revanche got out of the deal was half of Betsy's telepathy...

Maybe it was because Betsy's original body was not optimal for fighting, so Revanch had to hit the gym for a bit, who knows.

I do think it would be interesting for Revanch to be in her original Asian body, she would be interesting like Betsy was in the original body swap: who is she loyal to, maybe a little more icy, unpredicatble, making eyes at Scott and causing trouble etc. With no prior loyalties to any of the other x-people, she could cause more tension. Basically, the same things that make Emma so intersting, because in my opinion, the immediate post body switch Psylocke was a model for what Emma is now, Betsy was the original "ice telepath".

And then if Betsy held on to the martial arts training, and was in her orignal body, I think she might be much more intersting as well.

I've given up on trying to guess with anything related to Psylocke's return....its like trying to guess who the fifth Cylon was or like trying to grasp the current storyline on Lost, I'll just have to wait and see. Any ideas when the preview scans for UXM #508 are coming up?

Rogue said...

no idea at all, one black 'n white page can be found on the Psylocke Appreciation Thread over at comicbookresources that has Spiral stealing a coffin.

If Kwannon does come back, I'd like to see her in X-Force. What you think?

AGREED!!!!!!!!

Even I can't keep up with this shit. Can someone give me a body and power and stick with it?

Wow, so many comments O_o LOL
I'm still hoping Betts returns to her original body. This body swap ruins any chance of Psylocke being features as a main character in cartoons and movies. Maybe the 512 cover is a red herring... We'll just have to wait. But I'd love for her to return to her original body, original powers, and retaining her ninja skills.

I dont think the body swap thing was as confusing originally, but it seems like everyone who wrote her after wanted to leave their mark on her one way or another to the point where it seemed she would develop powers that would only be used in one issue, or maybe never.

I have yet to see her "shatter a mountain" or anything close to that.

I think Claremont just took it to another extreme, she's got invisability, she immune to telepathy...but not all the time, she a master at hand to hand combat
but needs lots more training etc. etc. stop Stop STOP!

I dont think that somebody with all those powers should be afraid of anything, why didnt she just use a bit of her smashy mountain powers, say... just enough to smash a hill, on Slaymaster?

I agree with you about that one Luckystar, maybe both Betsy and Kwannon returns to the X-Men and that's Kwannon on the front page of #512. That would be a hell of a lot better than to resurrect Revanche into Betsy's old body, that would be such a slap in the face to the fans.

My concern isn't so much a Kwannon resurrection/second body swap, I'm actually more concern of Betsy loosing her fighting skills - especially now that we have seen re-fine said skills with both Ogun and Sabertooth....although we were promised that she would 'kick ass' once she returned. :-)

Hey all, I just singed up because since I was little Psylocke was my favorite female X-men character. I love Jim Lee's way of drawing her however I have to say Joe Madureira did an awesome fight seen in The uncanny X-Men #328. Also you can see my painted version of her fighting the Shadow king here

Peace.
