CAPTAIN BRITAIN 💜

Holy shit, BETSY sound posh as fuck just like in the old days! The era of Tini's tumblrspeak is OVER! I LOVE IT.

Okay, so we finally have a confirmation about Betsy's current identity: she's still Captain Britain.

But I guess that whoever doesn't like her being CB can still enjoy this book since she's not wearing the CB uniform, using her CB powers or having to deal with Otherworld issues. She's basically Psylocke, only using the Captain Britain codename instead of the Psylocke one. Same thing with Rachel, who's still named Askani but is back to the tight leather uniform instead of the robe she was wearing as the "master of time" or something.

The preview looks good. Then again, I also enjoyed Excalibur's first issues (at least until issue #4 came and Rogue was still in a coma), so it's too early to tell whether this run will be good or not. But I'm optimistic this time.

Oh, also, we already knew before this preview that Betsy didn't want to join Forge's team but Rachel would convince her, but only now it occurred to me: Rachel is excited to join a X-Force team, but she was NEVER part of X-Force before, was she?

I guess that's why Rachel wanted to join, and why Betsy (who was already part of previous versions of X-Force and knows the problems that come with it) didn't.

I like Betsy's voice just from the flashback alone.
I really liked her dynamic with Sage back in Exiles, so I hope we get to see some of that too.

randybear said...

I wonder if the reason Betsy declines is maybe she doesn't want to drag Rachel into XForce since she knows already what it can do to someone. As someone pointed out above Rachel hasn't ever been a part of XForce.

randybear said...

Also if Betsy loses the butterfly I hope she can at least get a new signature. I wouldn't mind that rose petal effect To likes to do. Goes well as an English rose

X-Man said...

I was thinking she also had to end up "killing" the person she loved on X-Force.

She might not want to go through that again.

Of course she legitimately could just be exhausted lol.

Nichelle said...

In da fanart , Throne draws alot of butterfly signature. I hope we see soon

randybear said...

Omg you're right! Not just that but it ruined her later relationships with Fantomex and Cluster. She most have a major negative association with XForce and her relationships

randybear said...

Me too Nichelle 🙏🦋

X-Man said...

Yeah I hated her and Fantomex & the Cluster thing well imo helped some writers I think exaggerate some stuff imo lol.

But I guess those relationships too you mentioned, but definitely what she had to do to Warren must not bring back fond memories.

Glad the issue is almost out soon.

I'm liking his voice of Betsy at least so far.

Break a leg! Looks good. To me it's a win a black male writer make a hit series. There's lots black females who make it to the industry with less obstacles. For the black male creators the road ain't sprinkled with rose petals. Wish Thorne the bestest and have a blast writing it.

@Nichelle, where is his fan art? I’d love to see more of his butterfly power signature. He drew it so well in Excalibur.

@Kiki, word up!

I think she has plenty of bad memories involving X-Force (even if her time on the team provided us with great moments and stories). She was an accomplice in the murder of an innocent child (even if said child was Apocalypse and he's already back to life anyway, but his resurrection doesn't erase the trauma), had to see Warren slowly losing himself to the "Dark Angel" persona until she had no choice but killing him, then his body comes back to life but as a new person (though Warren is also fully back to life now, personality, memories and all)...

...then she was forced to kill ANOTHER person she cared about, her own older brother (by telepathically forcing her OTHER brother to kill Jamie, meaning that she knew she was also causing Brian some trauma), and her sorrow led her to a one-night stand with Fantomex which she immediately regretted and she assumed he only wanted to take her to bed when he actually fell in love with her, leading to him getting brutally murdered after saving her life, followed immediately to a brief trip to the future where she found out she had become a world dictator...

And that's only on Remender's run; Humphries's added a series of disappointments with Cluster and Fantomex, followed by Cassandra Nova tempting her with the restoration of her original body and taking it away when Betsy refused to accept her terms. It's no wonder that by the time of Spurrier's run, Betsy was having sex with Cable's clones (since they could only live for one day, and thus she wouldn't have enough time to grow attached to them like she was to Warren, Fantomex and Cluster) and broke down during her sparring with Domino (who I usually dislike, but I must admit Domino acted like a good friend to her in that moment).

The traumas weren't just involving her love life, but especially her feelings of guilt over the things she had to do and over who she could become in the future by following this path.

I'm talk about the writer he drew in his devianart

Rahsaan said...

Geoffrey nailed her voice and personality. I am cautiously optimistic.

Nichelle said...

Will u be reading it

Rahsaan said...

@Nichelle, me? Or Kiki? It’s already on my pull list at my dealer.

X-Man said...

@Kiki wait I feel like I'm behind. Thorne is a black man?

I'm not sure if I realized that if so.

Nichelle said...

@Rashaan everyone in general , I hope da book does

X-Man said...

I'm wondering why Forge doesn't allow telepathic communication for the field?

I would have thought that would be more secure than using comms.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Nichelle X-Force Storm Uncanny and X-Factor are on my pull.

X-Man yes he is one of the few good in the industry like McDuffie, Walker and Semper Jr

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Absofreakinlutely so far

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Scanned psionic abnormality? Get deja vu from the eight ball he carries but if his comms are Krakoa made they're advanced

randybear said...

In the last page it's mentioned that Forge is utilizing a telepathic blocker. No other reason maybe he has a secret

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Don't care about the Psylocke no more it's a Mojo slighting. The butterfly is off limits we talking Betsy heart. Betsy be called Captain Nemo or what the butterfly is her thing and nobody else's business.

Nichelle said...

This...Betsy Is a character with many years of history. The butterfly is hers. ❤️

X-Man said...

@Kiki that makes me root for him even more so, not sure how I wasn't aware of that. Thanks.

X-Man said...

Interesting thanks guys.

Nichelle said...

What u guys hope for dis book betsy wise

X-Man said...

@Nichelle I hope for Betsy to get her edge and real personality back (the previews give me hope),

to use her psychic abilities creatively again and not just sword shield all the time,

to have and use the psychic butterfly & psi blades,

& to give up the CB mantle nack to Brian and truly have an identity all her own and not one that has to have a shared name/past with either Kwannon or Brian,

Lastly, I hope she has many moments where she gets an opportunity to shine in this book like she did in Dissasembled.
( oh and let her have some fun moments as well in the meantime).

I would love for Cypher to join for a mission or two or even join the team. I think it’s an outrage that Elizabeth and Douglas have not had a single on-panel conversation since before they both perished during Fall of The Mutants (in real time that was back in 1988; 35 years ago!! ) There have been a couple of times that they’ve been on panel together like in an issue of Messiah Complex (mind you he may not have recognized her wearing Kwannon’s body) and an issue of Ten of Swords, but haven’t talked which is very strange considering they were close friends when she first came to Xavier’s after quickly bonding during the Wildways ordeal. Betsy has even led a team that included Doug’s wife, Bei yet she and Doug have not shared any significant interactions. Also, Douglas (along with Roberto and Danielle)had so much great development during the Krakoan Era and I would hate to see him fall into Limbo. Plus I think his power would work well in conjunction with other power sets of this current roster and their mission.

HOXOR said...

Wow, I'm so slow to pay attention to these things...

I saw some people talking about this pink effect being Betsy using her telekinesis to fly and only now I realized that it's actually her telepathy, in other words, no butterflies.

X-Man said...

Well it could be either, but she doesn't always use the butterfly when using TP.

But indeed we have yet to see it in this new book, I believe she used it a lot in that last book she was CB in (the one not written by Howard), so who knows?

However you are correct in that She is using TK to fly as is Rachel. So you weren't wrong there.

But I'm guessing Rachel is also carrying Forge & Sage as well?

Not sure if they are trying to say she is the stronger Telekinetic and if so they better make Betsy the stronger telepath lol.

HOXOR said...

This is Geoffrey Thorne's description of Betsy and Rachel:

"CAPTAIN BRITAIN – Lady Elizabeth Braddock, mutant telepath with some extra juice, doing time in the 616 dimension with her new paramour...

ASKANI - ridiculously powerful telepath/telekine who once hosted the Phoenix."

About the butterfly... Betsy used it A LOT in Knights of X, Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain, X-Men Unlimited: Infinity Comics and X-Men: The Wedding Special.

X-Man said...

Thanks @Hoxor didn't really read wedding special and forgot a lot of KOX lol.

Totally skipped Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain lol.

I did read his descriptions but still not sure if that means Betsy is stronger in one area & Rachel in another.

He doesn't even mention Betsy being telekinetic, which we know she is, so im thinking they are just some fun descriptions he put together, but not anything we can gauge on their skill sets and such.

It comes out next week right? Definitely looking forward to it :)
