Spoilers: Merlyn’s Furies raze Jackdaw’s Nest in search of mutants. The mutant Joshua Englehard is rescued by Captain Bretland. They ride a winged horse and flee to Lavender Keep, the secret headquarters of the Captain Britain Corps in the Floating Kingdom of Roma Regina. Betsy-616 has been leading the Corps to rescue mutants in Otherworld, which upsets Saturnyne, whose only concern is reclaiming her throne. Betsy seeks an audience with Roma and begs for her help. While Roma remains an ally of mutantkind, she can’t help Betsy directly. Roma offers her a quest instead. When Betsy opens the book gifted by Roma, her allies back in Krakoa – Gambit, Rachel, Meggan, Jubilee, Rictor, Shatter and Bei – hear the calling and rush to the Voltus Glade casting circle. Betsy manages to return to Krakoa and asks for their help to fight for mutants in Otherworld. Betsy later urges the Five to resurrect Mordred. As Mordred’s mind wasn’t backed up by Cerebro, Meggan uses the Waters of the Otherworld (gifted by Dr. Doom in Excalibur #23) in the process as the waters contain the only surviving record of Mordred’s mutant spirit. The resurrection appears to be successful until Mordred disappears from inside the egg. Betsy gives up and leads the others back to the Voltus Glade. Jubilee is worried that Shogo has been sleeping and dreaming non-stop about Otherworld and decides to return with him to ask for Roma’s help. Once they are gathered, Betsy opens the book and all are teleported to Avalon – except Jubilee. Bei deduces that the quest is for Shogo, not for Jubilee, who remained in Krakoa. Meggan suggests they could use Kylun, who’s been living in Otherworld. The Knights then find and rescue Kylun from Merlyn’s forces. A battle erupts between the mutants and Merlyn’s soldiers until a mysterious warrior riding a black horse appears helping the mutants. King Arthur retreats, and the mysterious warrior reveals himself to be Mordred. After Mordred joins them, the quest is revealed: Roma wants the Knights of X to retrieve the Siege Perilous. Merlyn spies on the Knights and urges King Arthur to take the Siege Perilous from them.
