Age of X-Man: The X-Tremists #2 Spoilers

Spoilers: As Psylocke and Iceman tend to a little boy who fell off his bicycle, Betsy thinks about how at some point children are picked up by their parents never to be picked up and held again. Upon returning to Department X’s office, Blob warns the team they have a “controlled purge” on their agenda today. It turns out that Department X is actually responsible for setting the forests on fire so that the X-Men can put out and make people feel safer. Later that night at their HQ, Psylocke is left alone with Blob and lets him know that she’s picked up his attraction towards her earlier that day. Betsy offers to purge such thoughts from his mind. Blob is caught off guard and simply leaves in a hurry. For the following three days, he calls in sick and avoids work. Moneta is upset with all other members as they all seem content with simply pushing papers behind a desk instead of doing real work and volunteers to interrogate Nezumi. Jubilee finds out Moneta has been keeping Nezumi chained to their basement in poor conditions. Jubilee apologizes to their pregnant prisoner, but Nezumi calls her out on being a complicit for being worse than Moneta and pretending to care. Meanwhile, Psylocke finds a note from Blob explaining that he doesn’t want to forget his feelings for her. Betsy visits Fred’s house that night and the two of them engage in an awkward conversation. Blob reveals he’d rather lose his job than be forced to forget his feeling and feel nothing at all. He just wants to feel something. Betsy tells him of a recurring nightmare about mourning the corpse of her mother, but that she can’t bring herself to remember the last time her mother ever held her. As she approaches Blob, Psylocke says she’ll let him keep his feelings if he answers if it still hurts.

Interesting. So Department X was indeed responsible for the fire. This world is even more messed up than we already thought it was.

And Moneta is really evil, it seems. Rahsaan pointed out that she could be another personality of Legion, and I guess it's quite likely. But I wonder if she's the only personality walking around; there's also a member of Apocalypse's X-Tracts team that was never introduced before (at first I thought it was Oya, but it's a brand-new character just like Moneta).

As for Betsy and Blob... well, let's wait and see how this situation develops. While it's annoying to see her getting paired up with the wrong guy again, AoX-Blob at least is a decent guy, much more acceptable than his original counterpart. He seems quite likable, in fact. Still, it's too soon to give her another romantic partner (although it's an alternate universe, so I guess it doesn't count)... then again, if he got paired with Jubilee it could be creepy, as Jubes is still pictured as a teenager even though she should already be an adult by now.

My only issue with this...issue was that it was boring af! The art seemed a smidge tolerable but the colors are flat.

And the whole Blob thing is really disheartening. People are saying things like 'oh she has the worst taste in men' but I don't see what's wrong. Because he doesnt have a conventional superhero physique?

That is beyond shallow and shows how hateful and unaccepting people still are.

As a biracial homosexual its very hard for me to be shallow to the extent that I would judge anyone for being with someone that's not their physical equal.

I'd say the problem with Blob isn't his physical shape, but his personality and behavior: he's racist, sexist, has bad hygiene habits, enjoys violence (especially against weaker opponents)... I don't think he has any redeeming traits.

That's why I said AoX-Blob is miles better than the mainstream Blob. AoX-Blob is a nice man, in fact. Problem is, eventually both Psylocke and him will leave Nate's fakeverse and return to the main universe - when that happens, they will likely revert to how they were. By then, I hope Betsy has good sense enough to get away.

Unless somehow Blob retains his AoX personality. In that case, they could actually be a nice couple.

Writer has confirmed this relationship is exclusive to this alt reality.

One reason she paired them was for the fact that she was free to do a lot with the characters as they are essentially acting out of continuity here.

this issue was uncomfortable for me .....tired of Betts' always centering around a guy. plus she looks 12 years old in the art while Fred looks in his 50s

The last time Psylocke had any sort of romantic tryst was in XForce when she was fucking Cable's expired clones.

That was a few years ago. I think the editors have been conscious about not always focusing on Psylockes love life.

I don't have anything against Blob but this...wow. Like I don't see that working even in this alternative world of X-Man. The story totally sucks, the art is terrible. I think Blob deserves more story and focus, but not like this.. it so uncomfortable and discouraging because it's not the main world of X-Men and it's a terrible story.. He was so much better in X-Force back in a day... You think when Betsy got to her body they'll fix things not screw it up more. The one who fought, killed Magneto and worked with X to save her team from the Shadow King though 3 years of comics, died by one drain only to kill Styx from inside out using mix of telepathy and Wolverine to have an epic return, only to get fucked up in a lame story of X-Man where it's all boring from art to details of story... What the fuck !!!! Oh god two more issues and this'll be over right ? Please tell me it's just two issues

Yea I really see no point to this AoX thing. It just seems like a convoluted plot point to sell the UXM book and redeem Cyclops. What's the point if after this it's all going to revert and forget all this? Are they trying to make this whole thing a FOX/ Hulu original type show bc it's not working for comics

Can we be sure that after AoXM it's all going to be forgotten, though? The art promoting Hickman's debut with the X-Men seems to indicate an alternate reality, so perhaps things won't be exactly back to the way they were before...

@Unknown, I was thinking something similar. With a majority of the main popular X-Men & some B characters in this alternate reality, it allows Marvel to safely concentrate and push Logan & Scott. It also lets them redeem Scott without having any of the other adult X characters challenge or call out his previous behavior. At least for now.

@FSaker, I'm hoping Hickman's book is a separate alternate reality and when AoXM is over, Hickman's alternate books run separately from the main. I'm sick of events & crossovers.

@Alex V.W, even if it is a separate alternate reality (and it probably will be), it may still be caused by AoXM tampering with the reality in the first place. And I think Hickman is too big of a name to be placed in alternate books instead of the main one(s); it's more likely that he will redefine the X-Men just like he did with the Fantastic Four and with the Avengers.

As AoXM allowing Scott being redeemed without the other X-Men calling him out on his previous behavior, I don't think that's the case. After all, Wolverine is there with him, and Logan has always been the person who condemned him the most (...well, except for Beast). And most of the X-Men dragged to AoXM seemed to have warmed up to Scott after they found out that he was innocent in the whole conflict with the Inhumans, the exceptions being Bishop (who has no moral ground to criticize Scott after everything he did) and Jean (who wasn't even alive back then and has no reason to be mad at him).

I guess whenever they return, they won't have much trouble accepting him back. Emma may have a harder time, though. Then again, I don't think she wants to return to the X-Men anyway; she seems to be fine back in the Hellfire Club.

@Fsaker,
I've been trying to forget Bishop's character assassination. I just want 6 months or a year of an X-book that's not some crossover or big X-book event. Marvel's always talking about how certain writers or stories will change the status quo forever but just seems to just dig themselves deeper into people loosing interest.

I just feel like redeeming Cyclops to the public at large not necessarily to the XMen. True they may remember what happened, but I wonder if the changes and memories will affect any of the characters in the long run? Maybe Bishop needs a redemption? I want the X-Men to have another super heroic age, especially with Psylockes new status quo. I miss her Australian outback cunning and subtle ways, I really liked the way she came out using her powers when she reconstituted her body. Alas what I want is not necessarily what we are going to get lmao!!!!
