Astonishing X-Men #11 Spoilers

Spoilers: Proteus’ garden – a gestalt of confused and twisted mindscapes – grows in Fetters Hills. It soon spreads to other parts of the world. Psylocke takes command and orders the X-Men to attack. First, Archangel and Old Man Logan as metal is Proteus’ only weakness. Psylocke and X sense other reality seeds sprouting everywhere and leave the battle to save the rest of the world. Proteus is weakened and attacks the X-Men before fleeing. Warren catches up to him and shoots more metal feathers. The enraged Proteus fires back and disintegrates Archangel’s wings. Mystique poses as Moira to get close to Proteus but it’s no use. Proteus attacks both Mystique and Old Man Logan, but he is too hungry and weak now. Gambit tricks Proteus so that Rogue surprises him from behind. Proteus tries to eat Rogue, but Bishop arrives and absorbs Proteus, projecting his energy into the air, seemingly killing him.

Meanwhile, Psylocke orders X to give his psychic strength to her as she plans to burn out the reality seeds. They try to suppress the reality seed in Tokyo but it’s not enough. X suggests Betsy tap into the network of psychics the Shadow King was trying to access earlier to escape the Astral Plane. Psylocke agrees. Their plan works and X notices that with this much power they could do anything. Psylocke knows something is off. Betsy is astonished when X’s body is torn in half and the Shadow King emerges victorious as this was his plan all along.

Oooh... now THAT's a nice twist! And it also helps to better connect the parts of this arc (since it is so long, I wouldn't be surprised if most readers have even forgotten it all started with the Shadow King before Proteus even showed up).

I wonder if this means Xavier isn't coming back, after all. And also if Fantomex is gone for good, since Farouk is using his body (I mean, Jean-Philippe agreed to let Charles take control of his body, not Farouk).

I wasn't a suprise to me nor to the X-men. None of them trusted X.

Personally I think this reeks of the Psi-War, pretty disappointed.

Ashley, how much you wanna bet we'll see yet another Psylocke vs. Shadow King showdown for the fate of all mankind yet again?

This was my fave issue since the first one. I really liked the art too.

I liked the twist, even though it was not all that unexpected as Ashley posted. Maybe she will use the giant butterfly again (I loved that!!) to turn the Shadowking's spell right against him.
She will be indeed alone against him as a telepath, as X is in fact the Shadow King. I am pretty curious to see how it develops and hope it will define her place in the new titles of the X-World. Her battles against the Shadowking have had an interesting story, as she was intelligent and creative in her previous encounters against him.

Is that why all of X's speech bubbles were dark? it was actually the shadow king speaking??
