X-Position: Brian Wood's Ultimate X-Men

CBR: This week, "Ultimate Comics X-Men" writer Brian Wood joins X-Position to shed some light on the direction of the Ultimate Universe's X-Men answers reader questions about everything from whether fan-favorite characters will appear to the challenges of writing in the Ultimate U.
Ben has a very detailed question about Psylocke. Very detailed.
I know there was some minor controversy regarding Psylocke showing up in "Ultimate X-Men" #19 without any explanation after she died during "Ultimatum," but whatever the reasons for her resurrection are, I was confused by her characterization. Betsy, or Colonel Braddock as she was introduced in the Ultimate universe, was an adult woman who was an agent for the British Intelligence Service, worked undercover for Xavier and then fully joined the X-Men, working alongside the likes of Storm. Now all of the sudden, she shows up in Reservation X, voting for a fourteen year old kid she doesn't even know to lead her and betrays her former allies along the way. It's like a whole different character. Why would Betsy do that? What are her motivations?
Brian Wood: Maybe it is a whole different character? Suffice to say, this will be addressed, I won't just drop that on you guys and let it ride.

A whole new character? What for?

Because some poster on CBR continued to complain and bitch that Psylocke has returned with no explanation. When clearly it was an error by editors to allow her to be written. So, now Brian Wood is trying to somehow fix the situation to justify her return.

maybe it's not psylocke, and she's mystique

Unless Ultimate Mystique is now a telepath, I highly doubt that.

Well 616 didnt Betsy just fell out of the sky and was alive again because her brother wanted it that way? Not much of an explination, but there you have it, mabye something like that happened here.

By the way, I hope they touch on that ressurection in Uncanny x-force. Bishop has a strange relationship to Psylocke that I dont think was explained. When he saw her "ghost" and she was dragged away and then when she came back to life she was so angry at him for leaving her behind, was that ever explained?

But Ultimate Jamie Braddock can't bring his sister back to life; unlike 616-Jamie, Ultimate Jamie doesn't have powers to alter reality, he's just a scientist who became the new Captain Britain after his brother died.

That said, Ultimate Betsy really is behaving quite differently than she used to do prior to Ultimatum. Maybe this is an impostor. Oh well, if that's the case, at least we still have 616-Betsy (the one that REALLY matters, anyway) alive and kicking ass.

Though Ultimate Psylocke was also very cool, of course.

Maybe it's Kwannon?

Yes. Psylocke originally thought Bishop had something to do with her being grabbed because he was the last one that saw her. The thing that grabbed her turned out to be her Brother.

@Brian - No, Ultimate Kwannon is dead. When Ultimate Proteus killed Ultimate Psylocke's body, she transferred her mind to Ultimate Kwannon's body (Ultimate Kwannon was a young Asian girl in vegetative state).

This can't be Ultimate Kwannon. But it can be someone else, as this girl definitely isn't behaving like Ultimate Betsy would behave...
