Mysterious pages. So Rachel's mind probing indicates this is Betsy, but Rogue doesn't believe so, eh? That would usually imply that this ISN'T Betsy - at least not OUR Betsy.

That brings two questions: where is our Betsy (since the end of the last issue indicated she was transported back to her reality)? And who is this woman - could she be the body Jamie asked Sinister to grow?

If I understood correctly the solicitations for this issue and for the next one, this whole confusion won't be solved next week. But hopefully we'll at least get the answers to these two questions. And hopefully Saturnyne will be turning up to help for once, rather than harming Betsy again.

Reminds me of that scene from The Craft when Nancy's walking on water and the other girls are like... um....

I like the art!

Is it bad that I trust Rogue’s instincts more than Rachel’s

Its been so nice to see Betsy out of that ugly armour.

It is normal and right. Telepaths are most blind to the truth and the obvious.

Betsy in elegant nightgown is a treat for sore eyes.

Betsy's multiversal journey is far from over. The possibility she hopped in another reality foreign to 616 is very much likely. Monarch can still work with Saturnyne although the request for Sinister to make a clone body of Betsy shows he wants like Saturnyne the Excalibur team disbanded with trickery.

I want an epic battle between Betsy and Saturnyne because Saturnyne has become deadly formidable to be left unchecked. Nice to see Ryl and more of the zodiac servants of Saturnyne and who they are.

@Psi-Girl from the Siege Perilous Betsy came out naked with lost memory and no friends to help her. Matsuo took Betsy to use her mind for his dirty work. The MeeToo movement can blame Matsuo and Kwannon for that.

randybear said...

But didn't you hear? Betsy is a white character so it's ok to blame the victim in this case!

Rahsaan said...

No, but it is okay to blame the white writers who came up with this whole fiasco to begin with. Claremont, Lobdell, and Nicieza. Though the latter two would not gave done their parts without the former. Claremont has a habit of turning white characters into non-white ones without exploring the real experiences of non-white people living in a society based on the constructs of whiteness and the racism that brings.

Rahsaan said...

However, they should also be forgiven as they all have now realized the errors of their writing and their blindspots. The Betsy apology writing is leas about blaming her as a victim and more about Tini not knowing how to write her voice, so she is contriving this self-blame which is silly.

FSaker said...

To be fair, I'd say it's Matsuo's fault, not Kwannon's. Just like Betsy, Kwannon had no way to prevent the body swap as she wasn't even conscious.

Anyway, I agree with Jaime Braz that Betsy looks gorgeous in that nightgown. Such a shame that this probably isn't OUR Betsy (probably it's the new body that Jamie ordered with Sinister)... I wonder where the real Betsy is. Maybe she's some sort of psychic ghost, as her body was shattered in XoS...

Rahsaan said...

To be clear why I say this is all is racist by the writes is not because I think it was done with malice, but because these men have blindspots (especially Claremont) that made them think the non-white experience was a plot device like in Acts of Vengeance and Demon Bear that he could thrust Betsy, Sharon, and Tom into without acknowledging all that would entail and usually done by people of color to exploit the white characters.

FSaker said...

...Maybe this explains the cover for the issue after this week's; maybe Betsy's consciousness will "piggyback" on Kwannon's body to fight the impostor and allow her to either take control of the body Sinister created, or to wait until the Five raise her a proper new body.

Which would be an awful idea, once again bringing the messy body swap issues involving both Betsy and Kwannon. But if it at least ends with Kwannon consenting to share her body, and later with both women finally making up with each other and acknowledging that neither of them is guilty of the whole body swap mess (which Kwannon sorta already did in the final issue of Fallen Angels, but she never TOLD Betsy that she came to that conclusion), then maybe something good will come out of this awful idea.

Rahsaan said...

And then we see the white characters who are now faux non-white people doing a bunch of stereotypical trope stuff for years after perpetuated by other writers. Betsy was a horrid example of trope after trope. If I recall Sharon and Tom were also put into some trope scenarios too after their original story.

Many of these writes are realizing the error of their ways and speaking openly about their myopia which I definitely appreciate.

randybear said...

Of course they're to blame. I was emulating the rhetoric that goes around Twitter where they all hate Betsy and blame her instead of the powers at Marvel who placate the racist swap for decades but Marvel is pivoting and talking about the swap as if these are true events and Betsy has free will.

Instead of Marvel publicly apologizing and MOVING ON theyre stopping and focusing on the swap ALAINA only this time to completely use Betsy as the escape goat in this scenario and its amazing that im the only one who realizes this.

Jaime Braz said...

Kwannon is complicit for instigating the body swap nightmare according to Nicieza's story. She betrayed her Yakuza clan to live a romance with a Hand operative. That means Kwannon knew the stakes before she fell in love with another mafia's assassin. Falling off a cliff didn't solve the transgression she made against Japanese tradition only complicated the situation for Matsuo to use Betsy like a tool to bring her back. Betsy's life was ruined by both of them therefore it's preposterous Kwannon to be mad at Betsy for a vendetta she created.

Jaime Braz said...

Rahsaan you addressed the topic greatly. To attack Betsy, Sharon and Tom for cultural appropriation when Chris Claremont chose to racebent them is surreal. Because Caucasian Whites were transformed racially the damage control was easy and brought a sense of the exotic and fake diversity. If the body swap of Emma Frost and Ororo was permanent the outcry would be profound. The crime of Claremont was to view the Africans, Asians and Natives as exotic makeovers to diversify White people. That is the reason Betsy as a ninja was objectified and used a culture strange to her as an object like she was used in the Acts of Vengeance.

Jaime Braz said...

Randybear you are not alone in seeing the unfairness towards Betsy by a flash mob who fell for the narrative of Cebulski Akira Yoshida. Cebulski likes to fool people with false Japanese pen names thus Kwannon is the embodiment of the opposite of how he feels a White impostor that intrudes Betsy's heritage and image to accomplish nothing.

So is that Kwannon in the Demon Days series? She has solid purple hair and more butterfly imagery lol

I'm beginning to think Tini is only going to justify the loss of butterfly to Kwannon in this current story but hopefully I'm dead wrong

Also just further confuses readers. I feel like we are at a point where the purple is claimed from Kwannon but this just is dumb. Someone on Twitter said the design had the CB colors lmao but its just a redesign of the hand outfit which is also blue and red 🙄

X-Man said...

@Randybear I read it's not Betsy or Kwannon (despite again looking very much like British Betsy imo, besides that one image where she looked Asian), but another version of Psylocke named Sai.

randybear said...

@XMan wow another character entirely that looks just like Psylocke. Jesus Marvrl... or should I say Cebulski that entire series has his name written all over it.

X-Man said...

@Randybear this is what I saw written an a Psylocke page. Not sure what is was in response to though. Written By peach MoMoko60 on Twitter

"Hello, thank you for the information. She is indeed Psylocke. But she is not Kwannon (Or any marvel universe Psylocke). Marvel and I came up with a new version. (Basically my Japenese Folktale version) and her name is Sai. :)

randybear said...

@xman thanks for that! Now people can stop calling her Kwannon on Twitter

Betsy got her purple hair snatched like a wig again. Recall Maddie tripping bees about Slim snatchin her hair and face and leave her a mannequin dolly for Jean? Yeah that's how Betsy feels losing pieces of her and Revanche taking them. Hair, butterfly, code name, memories all stolen guys. Who's gonna cry for Betsy and who's gonna support her? Social media and Marvel who root for Revanche heck nah!

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Pshh heya Sai gurl welcome to the Psyflock rip off Betsy while ya can. What's new another Psylocke wannabe and the list grows to swarm.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

And for what is Jim Lee known for besides thongkinis and camel clipper dresses ah yeah collapsing Wildstorm and DC.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Fabulous Nicieza is the crime lord. He made Kwannon he is responsible Betsy can't have her things and name back.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Erase the body swap pretend it never happened. Betsy is Psylocke with purple hair and the butterfly. Revanche can go be a winged giraffe that's how much I care for thieves.

Psylocke IS betsy. That´s the problem. They seems to ignore the Revanche thing. And mostly her death. Ok. So when Betsy´s brother brought her back it came with a part of kwannon. That could be establish. The butterfly has an role in japanese folklore. Kwannon could use the same power (after all they wnat keep the iconic "Psylocke", but not taking Betsy´s signature. But Kwannon it self taking the name, the powers and ignoring the revanche thing is inexplicable. How I said butterflys had a significance in japanese including about death, as for example the white butterfly of Takahama.[
She should use the name revanche or maybe chou (Chō), with is butterfly in japanese. Could tranform the character in something.. And not simply ignore the revanche thing (this thing is too messy to be ignored in a bad way).

Also blame capcom & the anime appeal of Japanese ninja Psylocke
Marvel versus Capcom series shot to Heights unknown including that version of Psylocke
Card sets swimsuit annuals video games all profited from kwannon body not Betsy.

Even in the main fighting game revanche was given the role of Betsy instead of the British original

randybear said...

Ideally I wish Betsy would stop being Captain Britain (the name the armor the colors its all so UGH) and just go by Lady Britain or Lady Braddock or just Betsy Braddock. Im dreading when she eventually starts to use the CB powers more. My least favorite era of Betsy is when CC went over board with her TK and made her fly super fast everywhere and had bouts of super strength
