Boring. I know this art isnt new but now when I see Asian Psylocke I see Kwannon not Betsy lol

@CmX,
Same here. It's a nice little Jim Lee era throwback but now all I see is Kwannon. It would be cool to get a version with all of their current looks.

While not her best look, Anna’s 90s uniform was all right. Though Rogue’s most distinctive outfits have always been green and black folor scheems versus green and yellow and brown or green and white. Meanwhile, Jean and Psylocke’s 90s uniforms were always the pits too me and very unispired.

@Alex, though I Rogue and Jean’s current uniforms are their absolute worst! LOL. So these are not as bad comparitively. I’m going to avoid talking any further about Bets’ Elekftra hand-me-downs.

I miss 90's Psylocke so much even if her new body resembles her original one.. She's not in a real body, plus something tells me she's not using her katanas anymore and I loved that badass aspect of her character from the 90's .

@Finn,
I could picture certain artist or writers still having her use a katana. If not right now, maybe later on. I think the whole now back in her old body thing was more or so fixing what some thought has problematic and less to do with her martial arts training. In the art work we've seen so far she still seems like she's going to be depicted as a physical type character.

I'd like to see her use other weaponry in combat, maybe swords of English heritage. Those take a different skill set to use than katanas. If Kitty of all people can know multiple martial arts it would be cool to see Betsy learn something else beyond ninjitsu. Especially if a writer is planning on using Kwannon sometime in the future.

They've already written them as mirror images of each other, fight wise, at one point. It'd be nice to have a writer have them with different physical abilities.

@Alex, awesome idea! If they show her learning to wield any of the following, it would be fantastic:

Arming sword (high medieval knightly sword)
Longsword (late medieval)
Estoc (thrust-oriented)
Two-handed claymore (late medieval Scottish)
Curtana (a medieval term for a ceremonial sword)
Modern history

And great point about Ariel/Sprite/Shadowcat!

@Finn, I understand your gripe. It is a real body though. It’s corporeal. She made it from soul energy and while that is shoddy writing, I’d prefer a body and face of my own making versus having to live in someone else’s skin which I was put into without my permission and against my will. I think most people would. I do empathize though as the way this Psylocke is alien to you Kwanlocke was alien to me . 💜

ITA. I was actually introduced to "Asian" Psylocke and then read back on the original version. Once I realized she was actually trapped in another body it was a no for me. I like to see certain stories resolved. IMO this was long overdue. I'm glad Rogue can touch people now, Jubilee has her powers back,and Betsy looks like herself again (just waiting for them to give Cyclops control of his blasts one day.) I dont get why the two bodies resemble each other so much though, but it works for me.

@X-Man,
I agree. I love that Rogue can touch people now. I mean for how many more decades could they reuse that plot point for angst with the character? Jubilee being repowered is good also. I just hate that they put her back in her 90's costume/street clothes. I picture the original Gen-X has around 18-early 20's. Considering that & Jubilee being a parent now, the design looks horribly dated & immature.

I think the short yellow leather version she wore in the new Gen-X series with some type of bodysuit underneath would've been better.

Wait, Alex? Rogue can control her power again? I thought she lost control again after she absorbed Wonder Man... A development I disliked. If she can control them again, that’s fantastic, because it is established that the only reason she could not was repressed psychological trauma, which Xavier healed.

I just love the red sash, they should bring it back

Alex said...

@Rahsaan,
She can control them again & Wonderman is free from her. She however still has copies of his powers(flight, super strength, invulnerability).

Rahsaan said...

Fantastic! So she is like a self-actualized Rogue... That is controlling her power and having the Ms. Marvel power set. The best kind of Rogue.

Actually she is not in control of her absorbing powers as we can see in Mr and Ms X. She had to use a suppressor collar in her honeymoon with Gambit...
