I seriously wonder if Extermination will bring any real consequence to the X-Men. So far, it just looks like Days of Future Past recycled with the future versions of the past versions (...does this sound ridiculous to anyone else) of the O5 X-Men.

And since this miniseries take place in another dystopic future, the "If even one of the original five X-Men dies, our future is lost" line in the solicitations doesn't seem believable - we've seen the X-Men die in many futures, and their present counterparts are just fine (and the ones who are dead in the present... well, their deaths had no relation to their future selves dying).

In any case, Adult Jean has just returned, so we know if the O5 die in Extermination, it won't affect her at all. If we're any lucky, this story may result in them finally managing to return to their timeline (without that lame excuse of "the timeline created other X-Men to replace the ones that were sent to the future" used in the end of ANXM). But nope, they probably will still be around after Extermination...

I love the cover to Extermination, Jean looks so kawaii

I wonder if Psylocke will have a role in Return of Wolverine mini

FSaker,

That is “Jeen?” I’m surprised they have her in the current uniform that Jean wears as she is basically nothing like Jean, so I’d think she would choose something more her own style.

Rahsaan,

That's the main question. She does look like Adult Jean, but since the premise of Extermination seems to be a dystopic future with the time-displaced O5, I'd guess it's "Jeen". Plus, she look like a young adult just like Adult Jean, but if I'm nos mistaken the back stories in the main X-books leading to this miniseries show Kitty Pryde quite aged as the leader of the X-Men in this future.

But yeah, one would expect Jeen to try to look different from Adult Jean. Then again, Adult Jean's current uniform is one of the best she ever had, so I can't blame Jeen for wearing it (plus, maybe Adult Jean died in this timeline anda thus Jeen is wearing her uniform as a sort of homage or memento).

It's not Jeen. The adult Jeen has a different uniform in the Extermination backups. It's 616-Adult Jean.

Good point; I hadn't noticed that. So does that mean that Adult Jean will go to the future help the future versions of the time-displaced O5? This could be interesting (although it would make more sense if Rachel went instead - then again, Adult Jean is much more popular than Rachel, so I can't blame Marvel for choosing her).

It's still not enough to make me interested, anyway. Maybe I'll change my mind if a Future Psylocke appears (and gets to do something instead of just being killed - unfortunately, one of the prelude backstories seems to indicate that all the X-Men other than the time-displaced O5 died in the battle against the Sentinels...).

Thanks for clarifying, guys. Another question for you since I have completely given up on Gold. (I've only been following Blue and Astonishing the last few months and only know about Gold from this blog.) Is this Extermination story at all tied into what Mesmero is currently doing to Rachel and her devolving back into hound in her mind? Or are the two totally unrelated and that hound situation is only based in 616 and Rachel's mind? Basically, I'm wondering it it's worth me buying back issues of Gold.

If I'm not mistaken, it has nothing to do with the Rachel/Mesmero arc, even though the time-displaced O5 may also become Hounds in the Extermination future, if the issue #2 cover is any reliable. Then again, the cover for issue #3 shows Jeen carrying a huge gun and joined by the 1990s X-Force members (to the point where some readers - myself included - thought the redhead in the cover was Hope at first), so I'm not sure if we should really believe in what these covers show us.

Anyway, the Dark Rachel Saga arc seems to be just as pointless as everything else that came from X-Men Gold. But at least Rachel is being a surprisingly good (although not great) antagonist in it.
