Are those butterflies? Am I about to eat hella crow?? 😆
...They do look like butterflies, yes.
At this point, we should have learned that covers and solicitations can be misleading. But alas, let's allow ourselves to be misled a little, shall we?
- Betsy, Brian and Apocalypse are missing from the Excalibur cover, maybe hinting at the death of one or more of them. But I don't think that's happening to Betsy. Now, considering Saturnyne's comment about how Britain's people could turn on her due to her situation as a mutant, this could mean that she'll be leaving the Captain Britain mantle after the crossover and becoming Psylocke once again; the solicitation for the Hellions helps making this scenario even more favorable. (also, yay, Meggan!)
- Oh dear, wasn't it enough to make Karma lose a leg, now she's going to lose an eye, too? Poor girl, I hope that's not the case.
- Kitty (sorry, I still can't call her Kate) and Emma punishing Shaw... but aren't Krakoans forbidden from killing each other? Then again, Shaw did intentionally cause Kitty's death. But it would make more sense to have him incarcerated like Sabretooth.
- As for the Hellions supposedly dying... well, unless something happens to the Five (and the X-Factor solicitation does indicate something), they should be able to resurrect all the Hellions (except Nanny for obvious reasons), right? We don't even know if they are really dying, but this could set the stage for Betsy's return as Psylocke and Kwannon getting a new identity (or even both of them being Psylocke at the same time).
It's too early for us to find out what happens. But I'm still optimistic, at least for now.
Cover gives me the shivers. I don't let myself to feel happy for the butterflies cause I know Marvel will twist the knife deeper.
Saturnyne is right without racism to Betsy. Mutants are hated by people and people believe in Otherworld and Otherworld is sustained by make believe magic. People turn their backs to Otherworld and Otherworld starves from disbelief.
Aurora and Northstar hold hands is the good news of the day.
@FSaker if Nanny and Orphanmaker die it is game over. They don't deserve to be on Hellions with murderers. I want them with Technet.
@Kiki M. Ishola, well, the two of them aren't exactly the nicest people (...or machines), either. And I'm not sure, but I don't think Empath is a murderer, either (but he's vile, nevertheless). That said, as villainous as Nanny and Orphanmaker's deeds were, their childish personalities are kinda charming (...they're still childish, right? I don't read scans and it will take nearly a year before Hellions starts getting published in my country...).
I fully agree about Aurora and Northstar, and yeah, Saturnyne may be a jerk but she does have a valid point. As for the cover, come on, you can be happy this time! Even if all the connection between Betsy and the butterflies is restricted to the cover, that's way more than we've seen for months, right? That's a sign that, even if White doesn't want Betsy associated to the psychic butterflies, Mahmud Asrar is willing to show that he didn't forget about her psychic signature.
Meggan looks strong af! 💪🏿 💥
@Psi-girl which really doesn't make sense since Kwannon talks about how they both are connected to the butterfly in Fallen Angels. Given that, it would actually make sense to see Betsy use it. Kwannon doesn't seem to use the butterfly effect like Betsy anyway from what I have seen. More like butterfly constructs like those annoying wings she made when she wanted to fly.
@FSaker A laugh burst out. Yeah Karma has lost a leg and then an eye. Will she end up No-Girl 2? Another brain in a jar.
Excalibur has butterflies! Pray to be real because covers mock.
I think if maybe all the orbs were butterflies I'd be more hype but it may just be another shout out from Asrar lol He did draw the butterfly psychic knife on #10 which meant nothing so im guessing same applies here with the butterfly imagery its just as someone above mentioned the theme of Otherworld faeries magic etc
Asrar confirmed on Twitter that the butterflies on the cover were his idea so imma go back to crying in my pillow lmao 😆
@randybear, well, at least it shows some people in the creative team still associate Betsy to the psychic butterfly, despite White's opinions. If Asrar did that, other people - writers and artists - could also do it...
She may not manifest the psychic butterfly under Howard and To's work, but the Krakoan people frequently cameo on each other's books; maybe whenever she cameos in one of them, she'll display this signature. Who knows, maybe she'll even get to do it during X of Swords, as she'll be written and drawn by pretty much everyone in the X-office during the event...
From a quick inspection and what the text of Excalibur implies please let Betsy be alive and well.
I think the part about "some things lost cannot be replaced" may indicate that she will somehow lose her Amulet of Right and thus her status as Captain Britain. That may be the reason why she's not on the cover - not because she's dead, but because Marvel maybe doesn't want to show us yet that she won't be Captain Britain from this issue on.
Honestly, I like Betsy both as Psylocke and as Captain Britain, so whatever identity she has after this event is good to me. I'll be frustrated if she dies (and if for some reason the Five can't resurrect her) or something else happens (like if she's left comatose for the next years), but for some reason I don't think that's what's going to happen.
Oh, and I also hope she won't leave Krakoa and become a full-time Captain Britain in Otherworld (which would be basically Marvel sending her to editorial limbo).
Let it be the loss of the Amulet of Right and not Betsy's life or her body. Death for Betsy is frightening. The Five can do so much that materialized psionic energy might be out of their league. If Dawn of X is faithful to what happened before, Betsy's molecules consist of the many spirits energy she rescued. The Five resurrection protocols I presume use science over magic and it will be tricky for Betsy.
Captain Britain was a nice transition and adventure for Betsy. She can move to something more X-Men related to keep close with her teammates. Brian is more experienced for Otherworld affairs. The mutant Excalibur team can function as Brian's strike force.
Betsy and Qinoa continue to fight for the Psylocke. Logic dictates the original gets the title who is Betsy. Taken into account we live in illogical times I say both get new aliases. Keep Psylocke under lock and key.
@psi girl I agree 100 percent. I was just saying if she is complaining about it, then we should still see it with Betsy lol.
@Jaime, I am sure that Sinister probably has Betsy’s original DNA on-hand to secure the resurrection process. From before she went through the Siege. Recall, she face the Marauders multiple times prior to her Kwannon years. Hell, Sabretooth literally would have had her skin cells and blood in his nails from when he slashed her in their first encounter. And we already know Xavier has copied her mind. It shouldn’t matter that she used the energy from departed souls to recreate her genome. I’m certain the Five would have no trouble resurrecting her. Even if Sinister’s DNA came from her current replicated body, rhat body still replicated Betsy’s original DNA I would assume. (Really outrageous writing, I capitulate, but it’s what we have to work with in the wake of the Madripoo/Styx storyline. Might have been easier to just have had a cloned shell a la Sinister or Jamie, but we understand this had to be on Betsy’s terms. 💜)
@Rahsaan, you have thought this through. I might add that Nathaniel Milbury is obsessed with mutant family trees. His two most favorite are the Summers and Grey families. The Braddocks could also have piqued his interest for genetic experimentation. After all they are fellow Britons. Betsy is from Essex and Sinister changed his last name to Essex. All the more reason to keep Betsy's DNA to create the future chimera Cylobel with the purple eyes and black mind. Cylobel was essential for Nimrod's database and is the DNA fusion of Betsy and Mindblast.
Sinister is not the only to have the DNA of Betsy. Mojo and Arize have Betsy's DNA because they have experimented on her many times.
And if all else fails Jamie has the power of resurrection and im sure Apocalypse could convince Jamie to ressurect Betsy if needed to
@Jaime, Essex was definitely intrigued by Betsy, so there is no telling what he could have done behind the scenes.
http://psylocke-butterfly.blogspot.com/2015/05/tbt-uncanny-x-men-239.html
@Jaime Braz, wait, so Cylobel was made from Betsy's DNA?? I didn't know that!
I'm loving to read HoX/PoX, but one thing that annoys me in it is how Betsy is completely absent from the story (she doesn't even appear in flashbacks or in Moira's alternate lives). But if Cylobel is made from her DNA, I guess I could consider Betsy is somewhat present...
@Rahsaan I'm weirded out Mr. Sinister spends time with wannabes and not with the X-Men big shots. Jean, Storm, Betsy, Vulcan, Proteus, Rachel, Magneto, Polaris, Exodus, Kid Omega, Magik are in his arms reach.
@Jaime Braz has Hickman confirmed that Cylobel is a Betsy and Danielle pastiche? I mean DNA chimera.
We know Rasputin is X-23, Colossus, Kid Omega and Shadowcat and Cardinal is Nightcrawler, Prestige, Ajax chimeras.
There's been zero confirmation anywhere that Cylobel is a chimera containing Betsys DNA. Above poster is spectating.
