X-Men: Battle of The Atom #2 Spoilers

Spoilers: Quentin Quire notices it's Xorna and Kid Xavier controlling S.H.I.E.L.D.'s missiles. Future Beast explains they've made their way back to the past to break the cycle and stand against the humans. S.H.I.E.L.D. regains control of their ships, but not before they drop all their bombs on the X-Men, including Sentinels, which shoot at Future Beast and kills him. While they fight Sentinels, some X-Men question what's the point of fighting if the hatred will never end. Xorna easily overcomes Quire. In the midst of the battle, a Sentinel kills Future Jubilee and Kid Xavier kills Colossus. Xorna blames Cyclops and Wolverine for ruining Xavier's dream and their future with their ridiculous schism. Xorna says she'll never be the Jean they knew because she couldn't send herself to the past. The O5 face her, but Xorna's powers overloads, blowing her into pieces. Magik teleports everyone to the Jean Grey School, before Maria Hill could approach them. Wolverine says the O5 can't stay at the present and Beast promises to find other ways to send them back. Wolverine and Cyclops agree that S.H.I.E.L.D. having its own Sentinels is a bigger problem and that they have to deal with it, but each follow their own path again. Kymera decides to stay in the present to hunt whoever is left of the Brotherhood (Xavier, Raze, Ice Hulk and Molly), while Sir Iceman, Wiccan, Future Shogo and Quire go back to the future. Kitty quits the school because her fellow X-Men didn't trust her when she needed them the most. The O5 also quit. Kitty and the originals are welcomed by Cyclops to the new Xavier School.

Battle of The Atom – Chapter 8 & 9 Spoilers

Chapter 8 – Uncanny X-Men #13: "Psylocke" turns out to be Raze, who retrieves Teen Iceman and Teen Beast back to the school. Ice Hulk attacks Cyclops' X-Men and the Future X-Men, while Colossus and Magik face Molly Hayes and Deadpool; the latter dies . Xavier controls Krakoa's mind, making it swallow all present and future X-Men. The future Brotherhood place all five original X-Men in the time cube. Magik tries to stop them, but Xorna defeats her. The present and future X-Men manages to free themselves from Krakoa; Colossus stabs Xavier with the soulsword. The future Brotherhood aren't able to make the time cube send the originals back to the past. They test it on Raze, who is sent to the past and back, prompting them to realize it only doesn't work with the originals. Cyclops and the others reach Beast's lab and surprise the Brotherhood.

Chapter 9 – Wolverine and The X-Men #37: Xorna plays with Cyclops' mind, buying time for the Brotherhood to escape, bringing the originals with them. Kymera picks up their scent and goes after them. The X-Men from the Jean Grey School are freed and meet up with Cyclop's and future X-Men. They all argue as to whether these Future X-Men are the good guys, but end up agreeing in their favor. Kymera finds Deadpool's corpse and Beat notices one of the Blackbirds are missing. Elsewhere, the future Brotherhood are decided to to change their future by sending the originals back, putting a Plan B into motion. Teen Jean reveals to her teammates what she saw in Xorna's mind: if they stay in the present, one of them will be responsible for doing something horrible. S.H.I.E.L.D. receives a report that Cape Citadel is under attack by the "X-Men" (Future Brotherhood). "Dazzler" convinces Maria Hill to call for reinforcements. Beast picks up a mutant-related security alert concerning Cape Citadel. Wolverine and Cyclops agree to work together. They all head to Cape Citadel and defeats the Brotherhood. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s hellcarriers arrive and Maria Hill orders all mutants to surrender. Xorna controls S.H.I.E.L.D.'s missiles, directing them to the mutants at Cape Citadel.

Battle of The Atom – Chapter 5 Spoilers

Chapter 5 – Wolverine & The X-Men #36: Xorna engages Emma, the Cuckoos and Teen Jean in a psychic battle. Wolverine's X-Men arrive at Utopia. Logan and Cyclops argue. Teen Scott attacks Wolverine. Xorna manages to subdue one of the Cuckoos. Emma's no match for her. Xorna defeats the remaining Cuckoos and Emma. Tension between the groups erupts. Cyclops and Teen Scott fight the future X-Men, while only Teen Jean is left to battle Xorna. Meanwhile, Magik teleports to the Jean Grey School and tell Teen Beast and Teen Iceman that these Future X-Men are hiding something. Magik teleports them to the future. Back to Utopia, Teen Jean gets the upper hand and demands to know what horrible thing happens in the future if they don't go back to the past. Xorna shows her and Teen Jean is horrified by what she discovers. Jean tells Scott that they have to go back to the past now. Magik, Iceman and Beast arrive in the future, only to find out that the future isn't nearly as horrible as the future X-Men make it sound. At the Jean Grey School, they are welcomed by Sentinels and another set of future X-Men.

Marvel Reveals "X-Men: Battle of the Atom"

IGN: It's been a while since there's been a proper crossover in the X-Men Universe, but that's all about to change as the many threads of Brian Bendis' X-Men run thus far collide.

Announced at Marvel's X-Men panel today, X-Men: Battle of the Atom will see what happens when it's finally time for the original X-Men to go back to their own time -- with the help of the future X-Men. That's right, the present-day X-Men are going to get a visit from their future selves that have one mission: to send the original X-Men back where they belong and prevent a terrible future. I think at this point, perhaps the X-Men causing a horrible future is just going to happen no matter what they do.

The crossover is being handled by Bendis, Jason Aaron, Brian Wood, and will happen in these books: X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1, Uncanny X-Men #12-13, All-New X-Men #16-17, Wolverine & The X-Men #36-37, X-Men # 5-6 and X-Men: Battle of The Atom #2.

The story begins in September and ends in October, so it's going to be a very huge month of X-stories, to be sure. Issue #1 will be drawn by Frank Cho. Marvel promises that this story will pay off many of the threads that Bendis has been seeding since he began his run, and of course, set up a great many things to come.

Psylocke in Avengers vs. X-Men #2

I compiled every panel Psylocke was from Avengers vs. X-Men #2, which includes a brawl with Spider-Woman. Psylocke appears wielding her telekinetic (?) katana throughout the issue. Iron Man has built some anti-telepathy tech which he used against Emma Frost. Not sure if the same applies to every telepath in Utopia or if it was just used on Emma.

Marvel Announces "Avengers Vs. X-Men" For 2012

CBR: For months, Marvel Comics has been promising something big coming down the pike for readers invested in the Marvel Universe. The planned 2012 project has been described by Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso as "not part of a cosmic event, but a Marvel Universe event," adding, "Very soon, we're going to reveal all. Three simple words that speak to the hardcore Marvel fan and the guy or gal on the street who's seen one or two super hero movies."

Today, those three words became clear: "Avengers Vs. X-Men."

In a story published on the USA Today website, the publisher announced a 12-part bi-weekly series debuting in April. The core "Avengers Vs. X-Men" title will be co-written by Marvel's "Architect" writers -- Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction -- and drawn by big name artists Frank Cho, John Romita, Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert.

The appeal of the series is obvious, Alonso told the newspaper: "You've got two populations whose motivations are simple and understandable and defensible. That's part of the beauty of this. You're seeing a story that evolves out of 'What would you do?'" In a separate article, the mechanics of the title and its promotion were laid out, from each issue being scripted by one writer who then hands the story off to another for the next issue, to plans to integrate Google+ into the ongoing promotional efforts.

On a story level, the focus of 2009's X-Men "Second Coming" crossover, Hope Summers, will once again be the center of attention in "Avengers Vs. X-Men," as the presumed host for the returning Phoenix Force. In fact, it's the threat of the returning Phoenix Force that will instigate the conflict in the first place, Alonso says. "The Phoenix Force is the spirit of destruction and rebirth. It razes worlds to create something new. It's bad news if you happen to be living on the world about to be razed. It's great news if you're what's going to be the outcome of that world."

Also taking center stage is the Scarlet Witch, who, in many ways, instigated this conflict years ago when she used her reality-altering powers to all but erase mutantkind from the planet. Bendis, who scripts her story in the series' prologue issue, told the newspaper,"She's been on a road of almost impossible-to-perceive redemption over the last few years and now is going to come face-to-face with the Avengers."

Schism #1 Spoilers

Spoilers: Cyclops wants Wolverine to travel with him to Switzerland and back him up, as Scott is attending an international arms conference with world leaders. Logan is not too crazy about the idea, and ends up arguing with Scott on their way there. At the meeting, Cyclops gives his speech, encouraging nations to stop the Sentinel program once and for all. Kid Omega breaks into the room and mentally force the world leaders to reveal their deepest and darkest secrets. Quentin Quire leaves, and Cyclops and Wolverine are left to deal with his mess. The world leaders accuse mutants of terrorism and activate a Sentinel to hunt Kid Omega. Cyclops and Wolverine take it out and return to Utopia. Meanwhile, Kid Omega spreads his anti-human hate speech on the TV. As a response, several nations all over the world activate hundreds of Sentinels heading to Utopia. Elsewhere, Kade Kilgore, the 12-year-old son of an arms manufacturer, kills his father. The kid then attends a secret meeting, where he reveals he secretly freed Kid Omega and took over his father's business, setting up the pieces to a new anti-mutant hysteria. Kade Kilgore is then hailed the new Black King of the Hellfire Club.

Jason Aaron Guides Wolverine Through Schism and a ReGenesis

Newsarama: The post-Schism X-Men status quo is being dubbed by Marvel as "X-Men: Regenesis," with Wolverine and the X-Men being joined in November by a new Uncanny X-Men #1. Newsarama talked with Jason Aaron to get a little clearer picture of what lies ahead, including the tantalizing hint that there's at least one character who "Wolverine literally has to drag with him in chains."

"Uncanny X-Men" Ends In October

Marvel Comics announced this morning that "Uncanny X-Men" #544 publication in October will mark the end of the long-running series, due in large part to the events unfolding in "X-Men: Schism."

"Uncanny" editor Nick Lowe told the Associated Press, "The X-Men are getting torn apart from within. The events of 'Schism' do more damage to the X-Men than any villain has ever done." The sentiment was echoed by current series writer Kieron Gillen who called the end of the series a necessity, though "it's not taken lightly."

Jason Aaron, writer of "X-Men: Schism," explained that while his miniseries may detail exactly why the team breaks up and "Uncanny" ends, the actual team dissolution has been a long time in coming. "It's obvious that things are coming to a head between [Cyclops and Wolverine]...Whether you're a long time X-Men fan or a new X-Men fan, you can pick out and understand the nature of this conflict and how it breaks apart the two lynchpin guys of the X-Men."

CBR: The conflict of "Schism" is set in motion with the surprise return of a character to the pages of the X-Universe. "Things kick into gear with the return of a character from Grant Morrison's 'New X-Men' run. This is one of my favorite characters from that run, and I'm a big fan of that run in general," Aaron explained. "That character's return sparks a worldwide resurgence of mutant fear and hatred. You'll see more Sentinels in an X-book than you've seen in quite a while."

When this crisis erupts, Cyclops is forced to develop a plan to deal with it, and his plan causes Wolverine, one of his most capable lieutenants, much concern. "At its core, 'Schism' is a story about Cyclops and Wolverine. There's a lot of other characters and elements swirling around them, but at the end of the day it really comes down to these two men and how they differ in a couple of fundamental ways," Aaron said. "Cyclops is the X-Men's leader and Logan doesn't want to assume his position. It's not his natural instinct. This book isn't about Wolverine coming in and suddenly deciding to lead his own branch of the X-Men. This story is really about a falling out between Scott and Logan and what brings that about. They find themselves at a real crossroads in their relationship and the differences that come between them pushes each of them in a very different direction."

While Wolverine and Cyclops have been comrades on the X-Men for many years, Aaron doesn't believe the two ever had a friendly relationship. "They were never friends, but Logan has come to look at Scott as his general. He's come to respect him much more as a leader these last few years as Scott has taken control and taken mutants to places they've never been before," Aaron said. "Logan has always been the good soldier, sometimes maybe a little bit begrudgingly, but he's always been right by Scott's side and gone out of his way to do everything he could to bring about Scott's vision. Now they find themselves at an impasse, and for the first time Logan says no. He feels the train has gone off the tracks."

Wolverine's perspective will be part of "Schism," but so will Cyclops.' Aaron wants his story to be as morally complex for readers as it is for the X-Men. "This is not a story about painting anyone as a villain or about one side being right and the other side being wrong. In some sense this is 'Civil War' with the X-Men, but it's not a civil war where there's a mustache twirling villain. We're dealing with two guys who have very strong principles and very strong beliefs," Aaron stated. "They also have definite ideas about what the X-Men should be doing and how they should be doing it. They just find themselves at an impasse. So hopefully we've created a situation where both sides will make complete sense in one way or the other.

"It's funny, I've even felt divided writing this story. I can see the strengths and weaknesses in both Cyclops' and Wolverine's arguments," Aaron continued. "When we first started talking about this story at one of the X-retreats we realized that we just got hung up arguing one side against the other. We had people in the room divided. Some of us thought, 'Why would this happen? This seems to be the right way.' Others felt the opposite. I think that means we're onto something. If we can't even get all these people in the room to agree on which side is right and which side is wrong, hopefully readers will be torn as well. We're creating a sticky situation here. It's not a black and white."

Parts of "Schism" will unfold on a global stage, but the bulk of the action will occur right on Utopia and a number of X-Men will find themselves playing supporting roles in the conflict between Wolverine and Cyclops. "This is a story that will focus a lot on the kids of the X-Universe," Aaron remarked. "We'll see some of the newest mutants. The Five Lights from Generation Hope will play a large role."

The conflict in "Schism" will be brought to life by an all-star team of artists, each drawing different issue. #1 features art by Carlos Pacheco; Frank Cho is drawing #2; #3 will be brought to life by Daniel Acuna; Alan Davis provides art for issue #4; the fifth and final issue features art by Aaron's "Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine" collaborator, Adam Kubert. "We've got a murderer's row of talented artists," Aaron remarked. "We've got some guys who are new to the X-Universe and some who have done their fair share of Marvel projects this year. Just working with one of these artists would be great and I'm lucky enough to be working with several of them on one project!"

At its core, "Schism" examines the conflict between two veteran X-Men and the paths they believe in. Said conflict will ultimately change the way the Marvel Universe views the X-Men, and the way X-Men view themselves. "The events of 'Schism' will continue to play out in big way in the Marvel Universe going into next year. It will have a profound effect on the Marvel U going forward," Aaron explained. "Because of what happens in 'Schism,' the status quo and dynamics of the X-Men and mutantkind will change for the foreseeable future."

Wolverine: Weapon X #9 Spoilers

Spoilers: Melita Garner warns Psylocke and Nightcrawler that Wolverine is trapped in the Dunwich Sanatorium. Kurt and Betsy teleport there, where they find a giant psychic engine built with human brains. Psylocke tells Nightcrawler not to smash it, as the engine is like a giant psychic bomb, just waiting to go off. Betsy explains that the bomb could turn everyone crazy for a few moments, she then defuses it carefully with her psy-knife. Meanwhile, Wolverine goes on a rampage, killing everyone he sees in front of him. After Psylocke is done with the last brain-engine, Wolverine comes to his senses. Logan tracks down Dr. Rot and stabs him, however a nurse helps the mad doctor to run away by distracting Wolverine. Dr. Rot builds one more brain-powered engine; and as it explodes, he escapes. Psylocke and Nightcrawler come to their senses after the bomb's effects fade away, but are unable to find Logan. Wolverine goes to Melita's house, and Dr. Rot calls him, swearing he will be back.

Jason Aaron: "WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #5 is out today, which wraps up the first arc with explosions and sharks, and of course more laser claws and stabbity stab stab. There are big plans afoot for the ole Canucklehead, and this arc was just the beginning, laying the groundwork for what I hope will be the next few years worth of Wolverine stories. My first job in comics came in the pages of WOLVERINE, so me and the hairy little bastard go way back. I've written him several times over the last few years, from "Get Mystique" and "The Man In The Pit" to a kung fu mini-series and a barroom team-up with Spider-Man. And I've still got plenty of stories left to tell. In the book's second arc, kicking off in issue #6, look for guest appearances by Nightcrawler and Psylocke, as well as the introduction of crazy new villains like Dr. Rot, Nurse Fester, The Biter, Charlie Chainsaws and an oddball pair named Helter and Skelter. Seeing as "Wolverine: Weapon X" is going to have a lot of Weapon X stuff going on, like Maverick’s appearance. Could you tip us off on any possible character appearances? Even a hint?

No plans for any other Weapon X characters any time soon. Maverick will continue to be a big part of the series, though, as you'll see come the end of “Weapon X” #5. In terms of other guest stars, look for Nightcrawler and Psylocke in the near future, and a little further down the road some heavy hitters like Captain America and the Thing.

This title has gotten a lot of praise for Aaron's quality of writing! This is definitely a good thing!
