X-Men Monday #155 – Tini Howard Discusses ‘Knights of X #1’

AiPT!: Writer Tini Howard has returned to X-Men Monday to answer your questions about the latest Destiny of X debut.

AIPT: What powers Betsy Braddock has as Captain Britain — in addition to her own mutant abilities. We haven’t seen her with super-strength yet, for instance.

Tini: Sure! So, if you’re a tabletop RPG person, like if you play games with dice and dragons and maybe a dungeon or two, I’ll use that to explain. The term used in gaming sometimes is splat, which is like a job class, prestige class, basically like an extra job for your character that you would, theoretically ‘lay overtop’ your existing character sheet. Splat.

So let’s say Betsy’s our character — she has inherent psychic powers, no one can take that from her. But in her role as Captain Britain, she gets additional abilities, and those are more or less the ones Brian was afforded — flight, etc. I think her strength is certainly enhanced — she runs around in armor and carries a shield, she’s much more physical in this role than she has been previously, so instead of Hulk-like-strength, it manifests more through a general improvement in her physicality. I think even the strongest average humans would tire out long before her in her Captain Britain mode.

Knights of X #1 Preview

Knights of X #1
Writer: Tini Howard

Cover by: Yanick Paquette

The Story: The gates to Otherworld are closed—and Captain Britain is trapped on the wrong side! Usurpers Merlyn and his right-hand man, King Arthur, are now in control of Lunatic Citadel. Furies the size of Sentinels raze villages to the ground in their hunt for the “witchbreed.” Cutoff from Krakoa, Betsy Braddock is Otherworld’s only hero—and to save her people, Betsy must recruit a round table of her own. The Knights of X gather to restore the rightful order and rescue desperate mutants—but their quest is about to get so much bigger than that. This is the era of destiny…and the fate of Otherworld lies at the center of mutantkind’s future. Don’t miss this essential piece of the new Krakoa!

X-Men Monday #150 – The X-Office Kicks Off the Destiny of X Era

AiPT!: Welcome, X-Fans, to another uncanny edition of X-Men Monday at AIPT — which also happens to be our 150th edition! Jordan D. White’s gathered a few of the X-Writers to give the Destiny of X era a proper kickoff.

AIPT: X-Writers, what has you most eXcited about your new Destiny of X series/runs? To quote the always enthusiastic X-Fan PolarIceFire’s question, “SELL IT to us, let’s get even more buzz goin’!!”

Tini: This sort of addresses the above question, too, but the Dawn and the Reign were about building, maintaining, this sort of massive amount of story energy I was funneling into building a realm and keeping it going. Now, we’ve built this massive Otherworld machine — we get to jump in and play with a structure that’s CLASSIC X-Men, and something we don’t see a ton of back on Earth — mutants on the run.

Knights of X has a lot of highs and lows — we’re fighting back against tyrannical fascism that’s crept into our perceived fantasy. But also, it’s not so dire, we have heroes fighting back against it.

Also, there is kiss~ing.
