Knights of X #1 Pushed Back, Listed as 5-issue Miniseries

Bob Quinn confirmed via Twitter that due to paper shortage, Knights of X #1 was pushed back from April 13 to April 20.

In addition, Amazon now lists "Knights of X" as a 5-issue miniseries instead of an ongoing series. If confirmed, the fifth and final issue will be released in August.

I'm... not sure how I feel about this.

Yes, the Excalibur run as a whole was very disappointing. But its final arc was a major improvement, and it's possible that KoX would keep improving (after all, the two things that held Excalibur back - Apocalypse's shenanigans and Betsy's self-loathing journey - are already over).

My main concern is: if KoX is a 5-issue miniseries, what will happen to Betsy after it's over? Will she be back on Krakoa at the end of KoX or will she be left in Otherworld? And, assuming she returns to Krakoa, is any other writer interested in bringing her to their X-book, or will she be left forgotten like Dazzler?

The last arc of Excalibur was a drastic improvement. However, the entire run prior had set the bar so low that surpassing it was no major feat. Not even remotely. The last arc showed Elizabeth in a much better light. However, Tini’s writing style is stil very choppy and disjointed and much of her character dialogue feels hollow. Couple all that with the artists that are put on Excalibur and Knights and the books come off as aimed at Marvel’s younger audiences (under age 12). I am really hoping that once this Knights story ends that the characters are transported back to Krakoa and given something interesting and high-stakes to do and written and drawn by a completely different creative team. Especially a different writer. At this point, I would almost prefer for Claremont to be given these characters again! Only almost though. I would much prefer someone like Gillen or Ewing or even a new unknown who can write relevant, interesting content.

I really do hope this is a limited run of five issues and if the cast goes into limbo afterwards, I would prefer that until a writer and artist who mean to do them justice come along.

I really hope this is true. I am dying for someone else to write Betsy. Howard has had her time with the character.

Another thing that concerns me is that Howard left several loose ends on Excalibur - besides Arthur and Merlyn taking over Otherworld, there's also Morgan's cult, Wisdom's new STRIKE team, Death being a kind of prisoner in Sevalith (even though he doesn't seem to mind)... will she even be able to finish all these stories in only five issues? Or will she focus only on Arthur's threat and leave the other loose ends for other X-books to take on?

Anyway, if this year's Hellfire Gala has another election for the main X-Men team, I hope Betsy gets to join them. Having a Captain Britain in the team could give the X-Men some credibility as a superhero team, after all.

Hope this will be true, I need another writer to improve Betsy or return her to her glory days.
I had enough of Otherworld, Betsy being a loser, her CB identity, enough Tini.

Now y’all know Jordan White probably is lurking here and is like “Look at how excited they are! I’ll fix them. Let me know extend this run into a next series with the same writer.😈”

Lol. Well I'd be happy if she only wrote Betsy for 5 issues, but didn't she recently do an interview where she said she wanted to tell Betsy/CB stories for years to come? (Along with someone else writing Psylocke stories?). That gave me the impression she was long term :(

The dumpster fire is put out. Keep Betsy and the gang away from bad writers. Hate the anorexia and the image problems or the male captain shoes she been put. I want old school Psylocke the best Betsy.

Kieran Gillen or Si Spurrier could be giving us amazing CB stories and just good writing in general imo.. instead of pegging the English writers they have Howard assigned who originally only wanted to write Apocalypse lol now She and Leah Williams are shoe horsing their fanfic fantasies on these characters they're mandated to write

Shoehorn* dang auto correct 😆

I guess the Knights will not be at this year’s gala with fly outfits. I am really starting to hate Otherworld.

Yes, bring an end to the dumpster fire tenure of Howard! Hopefully an end to an era where Betsy has never been more meaningless and insignificant to the X-line. Let alone whiny and incompetent. I would also second the desire to see a return to Psylocke.

The solicitation on Amazon says:

“… the fate of Otherworld lies at the center of mutantkind’s future”

Unless Merlyn is planning to bring the Furies into 616 to link up with ORCHIS and the Phalanx, I’mma have to classify this solicitation as pure hyperbole. Now if the Furies were to pop off in 616, that might be interesting. Kinda hoping that we never see Merlyn and Author again after all this though. I’m fine with the Furies being around though.

Let's hope your guess is wrong; hopefully the Otherworld adventure will be over in time for them to dress some fancy clothes and attend the gala. Hopefully Betsy will be eligible for the X-Men this year, too.

(though Dazzler probably needs the election more than Betsy does)

FSaker said...

...I just remembered that Marvel has ALREADY announced the election for the new member of the X-Men superhero team, and unfortunately Betsy isn't among the options.

Neither is Dazzler (but to be fair, there are some pretty good choices there, like Siryn and Gorgon - but wasn't he dead for realz, unable to return through the Resurrection Protocol?)

Rahsaan said...

Gorgon is back, but he came back wrong as in not the Gorgon that died, but an amalgamation of Gorgons from across the Multiverse. Since Otherworld is the nexus of all realities, dying there really destroys your soul or so it seems including all your Cerebro backups, and instead what returns in the cloned body is a new hodgepodge of various versions of you from across all realties who are not actually you, and you are supposedly no longer existent on any plane that we know of. Curious to see if that is changed at some point and the soul who does indeed somewhere out there. I hope it is not changed as the mythos has greater stakes with that.
I guess that is one of the reasons they keep Otherworld around in these stories. The permanence of death there being a looming threat and all.

Rahsaan said...

X-Man, I hope they offer hers a character she loves even more and that it’s someone like Tigra who is not at all associated with mutants. 😂

randy, I pumped my fist real hard for Leah during X-Factor, but I am now looking at her all kinds of sideways after that Troap of Magneto run. What in the world was that!?!?

Rahsaan said...

*Trial; not Troap

FSaker said...

So they revived Gorgon after all? I knew that Rockslide had suffered this fate of dying in Otherworld and coming back as an amalgamation of Santos from across the Multiverse; I thought the Krakoans would decide not to try to bring Gorgon back since they had already seen what happened to Santo. I guess I thought wrong.

Was it X who authorized this? If so, that's one more mistake to Charles's long, long list of mistakes...

Anyway, it'll be a shame if Betsy and her team are unable to attend the Hellfire Gala thanks to the "brilliant" idea of having them stuck in Otherworld...

On the other hand, I'll be grateful if they are unable to take part on the Judgment Day (a.k.a. "Avengers vs. X-Men vs. Eternals") event thanks to being in Otherworld. I love Gillen's work, but really, I've had my share of Marvel events involving superheroes going to war against other superheroes.

Money talks and bullshit walks is Howard doing Excalibur and KoX. Sacked with a cute bow and kissed dueces.

As if Betsy was ever marketable in a kettle costume painted with the Union colors. From the yellowface cliché to the Lancelot cliché.

Betsy first rests from this joke played three years long and ditch the Captaining. That or limbo and X-Men history is over for our butterfly.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

A prediction is Betsy changes many costumes for the right to come. Mahmud Asrar tailored the last best but from there it's hopeless not to speak about a new code name.

Nate X said...

The Hellfire Gala is a boring-ass storyline. The costumes are ugly and last year sucked. Couldn't care less about it. Fortunately this year it's just a single one-shot instead of ruining the entire month and every book.

Re: Election…

Pretty sure Angelica or Monet will win. Both deserve to finally get their due on a flagship team in a flagship book. Looking forward to seeing who wins.

@Unknown, some of this year’s Hellfire looks are actually better than last year’s, like Scott’s.

X-Man said...

Lol @Rahsaan. Isn't she writing Catwoman for DC too? Maybe she'll fall in love with that character even more.
