It makes no sense for her to wear armor isn't her suit magical? Id assume it would protect her even if it appeared as a regular costume and not an armor plated look but I get it... they want to drill it in our heads shes a knight not a ninja 🙄

Nate X said...

@randy Yes. The CB suits gives you high endurance and superhuman strength. Betsy should be a tank. The armor is unnecessary.

We're on the same boat as Jean Grey fans, aren't we? They just want the green/yellow version of the X-Men Red suit, but Marvel keeps pushing the ugly Marvel Girl dress.

randybear said...

Yes I can definitely relate and feel the Jean fans pain. Her Asrar look is so good and wasted much like Betsys Asrar design 😅 its a miracle his Storm look lasted as long as it did

Benjamin Hutton said...

If only!

Way better than her actual suit. By the way, the thing is that she already had powers... so what changes with her been captain? Is redundant

Like it? I LOVE IT!!!

Kudos to the artist that did this; it looks amazing! Marvel, can this please become Betsy's new uniform? You can keep her as Captain Britain; just give her this uniform and it's all good.

(and in case Romina Jones is reading these comments, is there any chance for another art showing Betsy's full body with this uniform? Pretty please?)

FSaker said...

I also think Betsy would probably look great with Lionheart's uniform (minus the mask... then again, maybe the mask would look cool on her, as well).

Maybe if someday she and Brian change their choices (with Brian getting either the Amulet of Right or the Starlight Sword from Betsy, and Betsy getting the Sword of Might from him), she could get that uniform. It doesn't seem like Marvel has any plan to bring Kelsey back, anyway, so why not give her uniform to Betsy?

randybear said...

Agreed. I think Tini confirmed the suit only gives her flight which shes already capable of with her TK but whatever its equally redundant as that stupid personal TK shield she carries around

BMS said...

Oh My! This is exactly what her CB uniform should be: The sleek, sexy and elegance of the Asrar design, with more muted colors of the flag. And the super long hair juts ads to the overall beauty of it.

We should all twit/send this image to Ti, To and specially Jordan.

Nate X said...

I kinda feel bad for Marcus To on this one. He said it was Tini who specifically requested that Betsy be wearing a big heavy Joan de Arc-like armor. I'm sure if he had his way, he'd come up with something cuter. I like his Gambit/Rogue/Rictor redesigns (Jubilee not so much).

randybear said...

I agree! I wish they had either let Asrar give her a CB look (it would have been fire) or just let To design his own thing he knows Betsy better he told Howard she would be better suited in a trimmer look and I think the Otherworld variant look is a compromise because it's so much bulkier. Plus Jordan said he wanted her look to have a cape. I cant believe Jordan White (who wears a spider on his head, grasping to the last 5 strands of hair on his head) is out here telling artists what he thinks would look good on a character 🤣

Back to Romina Jones's art, one of the things I like the most in it is that this recolored costume could fit for Betsy either as Captain Britain or as Psylocke (or whatever new codename she'll get now that Kwannon took the Psylocke identity and that the Krakoan society demands each mutant to have their own "mutant name"). It carries the Union Jack colors, yet it doesn't "scream" UK, so it manages to fit with her without visually reducing her to "the British X-lady".

Really, the more I look at it, the more I find it amazing.

Eoleo Glebatruss said...

For me this is official and legitimate. Romina Jones is a legend.

Benjamin Hutton said...

If Tini confirmed the suit/amulet only gives Betsy flight then:

1. Why is Betsy different to every previous wielder of the Captain Britain moniker?

2. Why hasn't this been shown or stated in an actual comic.

What an atrocious trash heap of a writer. The worst thing to happen was her getting her hands on Betsy.

Yes Disassembled was a train wreck... But Betsy in it was amazing.

Such a high, now to the lowest of lows (except for the brief uptick of the Kwannon team-up issues which were handled pretty well).

Now, this art got me wondering: what if the red and blue parts in the uniform were switched? Would it look even better? Or would it look worse?

Kiki M. Ishola said...

I want it manifest yesterday. Kickass!

@FSaker fashion says the designs are dark colored and the main fabric bright and bold to make shapes pop and catch your eye. The seams are bright for border definition and highlight the design. The X shape is elevated by the red 🔴 and white ⚪. Betsy's purple hair is paired with the red fabric make it it's accessory.

FSaker said...

@Kiki M. Ishola, thank you very much for the explanation!

I considered the possibility of changing the colors so that they would be in the same order as they are in the UK flag (blue on the outside, white in the middle and red on the center)... but as you pointed out, the red and white do help to elevate the blue X shape in this uniform, and maybe the same wouldn't happen if the colors were reversed.

@FSaker Betsy wore an off shoulder cross too in her first Captain Britain piece. It had a white rim on red to hit the same contrast. It doesn't have to copy the British flag. Brian's was loosely based with white to boost his male contour like the Medieval and Renaissance stocks. Betsy's had blue equestrians with the side stripes and boots.

The artwork is stunning! I would have loved Betsy to have a more sleek, streamlined outfit and helmet. Don't forget, it was Mahmud Asrar that designed Betsy's knight costume. I like it, but I always just found it very bulky looking, even when Marcus To tries to make it as slim as possible.

I hate Asrar's art (hate), I hate that he has drawn so many covers to Excalibur, but he does design decent costumes (that's it). I am about ready for Tini Howard to exit stage left, or for Marvel to just cancel this book.

I don't want to know what fresh humiliation she has planned for Betsy in the coming months. Based on the covers and the designs, it doesn't look good. What confounds me is that now Merlin, Roma, and Saturnyne are now bordeline villains. Weren't they always semi-allies/reluctant allies with mutants, or at least friendly with Captain Britain? What happened between when we last saw them and Hickman's run to make them change so? Saturnyne is now a raging b-word, Roma is a sl*t, and Merlin is now an angry old codger that hates Captain Britan? Tini has to go...now!

Betsy, You in danger girl!

randybear said...

This is off topic but I wonder if Pete will have a change of heart regarding attitude towards Krakoa whenever he's eventually revived lol

I hope that's where Tini is going with this because she made him look awful in the Gala issue

The art speaks Betsy is reborn. She can be because it is never late.

Her first rebirth was in the story of Mystery in Madripoor and X-Men Disassembled. It was a short-lived celebration for which I was prepared.

Nevertheless Kwannon is unable to erase a hero of Betsy's standing and make readers forget Betsy is the original Psylocke with the strong telepathic powers and the butterfly signature and of course the best story arcs.

Keeping a hollow '90s glossy poster alive with a new character in control is a last resort of anguish.

"Nevertheless Kwannon is unable to erase a hero of Betsy's standing and make readers forget Betsy is the original Psylocke with the strong telepathic powers and the butterfly signature and of course the best story arcs"

I'm... not sure about that. Longtime readers do know about Betsy's history as Psylocke, of course, but the general audience is more likely to associate Psylocke with "the ninja lady from the X-Men" (which is likely the reason why Marvel gave the codename to Kwannon rather than keeping Betsy using it). And it doesn't look like Kwannon is dying (not counting the routine of deaths and resurrections in Krakoa), disappearing or leaving the Psylocke codename anytime soon.

Which is why Betsy being mishandled now feels much worse than it was in other times; back then, even if a writer messed up her characterization badly, she still had her legacy to rely on until another writer rehabilitated her; now, she's having to start from scratch as Captain Britain, so the more Howard and White mess her up, the higher the chances for other writers to feel uninterested in choosing her for their stories after Howard leaves her, and thus the riskier it is for her to be dropped by Marvel and sent to editorial limbo. Not to mention the risk that Brian takes the Captain Britain mantle back at any time, leaving her with no superhero identity (a.k.a. "mutant name" in the current X-era) of her own...

FSaker said...

And it is kinda sad for Kwannon, too. Not as sad as in Betsy's case because being Psylocke should at least keep her interesting for other writers to use, but it also takes away the possibility of developing her as her own character. Sure, the stories can always delve into her personality (like Fallen Angels did in a bad way and Hellions is doing in a good way), but her main selling point will always come from Betsy's legacy, not from her own.

...Sorry for all the complaints, everyone. I'm just worried for Betsy's future; I was optimistic at first with the idea of turning her into the new Captain Britain, I still think it had potential to work out... but it's not working.

X-Man said...

Dissasembled wasn't the best story, but I definitely enjoyed Betsy in it as Psylocke.

Toffnut said...

LOVE this! This costume is perfect!

Jaime Braz said...

FSaker it is a normal reaction to be afraid for what the future holds for Betsy after she was stripped of her Psylocke identity.

Even more for having to bear her brother's legacy and adopt a patriarchal mantle whereas she had a confident female mantle of her own.

You are correct to point that Kwannon is a carapace fans recognize from the revealing costume and the ordeal Betsy faced in her transformation.

Although a transformation on Betsy that gained consciousness and became a person is still hard to progress. Kwannon has to cut ties from Betsy and her Psylocke story to find her footing as a real character.

Zeb Wells tries his best to make her seem real but she always ends as the plastic job done to Betsy with the sexy bikini. The murderworld is a clever example Wells tells to the readers that Betsy will always be the towering figure and Kwannon her shadow struggling to reach for her.

However Wells did it by making Betsy the vindictive and bad of the story although Betsy was innocent and thrown into Kwannon's drama without having a say or a choice. I suspect there is malice on behalf of the writers and editors at Marvel toward Betsy for making her the body stealer contradicting with Chris Claremont's original story.

I tagged Marcus To on Twitter of this posted pic and he liked it. I think as someone else mentioned, if he had his way, he probably would have made a suit like this.

randybear said...

Yeah sadly he had to create what Howard and Jordan White wanted :( I imagine she fully dictated Betsys gala design. I would have loved to see what dauterman would have created for Betsy without direction

FSaker said...

"I imagine she fully dictated Betsys gala design. I would have loved to see what dauterman would have created for Betsy without direction"

Me too - then again, Betsy's gala design turned out amazing, so maybe there's hope that eventually Howard will decide to give Betsy a different Captain Britain uniform (maybe even as a way to reflect her newfound confidence - which Betsy already had before Excalibur, but let's pretend she just got it now, shall we?).

randybear said...

Yeah her Gala look definitely grew on me just always gonna be curious what Dauterman would habe cooked up on his own lol I feel like he or Asrar need to design a new CB look for Betsy with no creative input from editorial or writer

I understand why you all like it, but I can’t really get into
any of these uniforms with her in the flag’s colors. I do like that it is more streamlined than her current look. And while I loved the disassembled uniform, I hope her next look is not an off-the-shoulder number as certain artists make it look too casual. I do think the rendition above looks spectacular artistically though.

FSaker said...

"I understand why you all like it, but I can’t really get into

Well, as long as she continues being Captain Britain, there's no way for her to avoid wearing uniforms with red, white and blue...

This doesn't bother me. What does bother me is how she seems to be used solely in stories involving either the Otherworld or the United Kingdom; come on, Jordan White, both Brian and Kelsey Leigh have been members of the Avengers (a team based on the United States) and Kelsey even LIVED AT THE AVENGERS MANSION (not sure if Brian also lived there during his time as an Avenger, but it wouldn't surprise me).

If they could be used in missions completely unrelated to the UK or the Otherworld, Betsy should also be more involved with other missions from the Krakoan society. It still bothers me that she didn't appear in a single issue of Hickman's X-Men book that wasn't part of the X of Swords crossover... She should be perfectly able to be Captain Britain AND a X-Woman (even if not a member of the recently elected X-Men team).
