Source: Code Dagoth

Captain Britain will join Marvel Contest of Champions with the March update, which is expected to be inspired by the X of Swords event. Betsy is also available as Psylocke.

Nice to see Betsy's Captain form getting more visibility outside the comics. Damn do I wish someone would save Karima. Loved her return in the all female X-book. Under Hickman, not at all.

Nice. Hopefully her KoX uniform will get introduced in some video games as well.

I'm actually surprised Contest of Champions is still alive and being updated. I thought by now it'd have been cancelled, like Marvel did with the amazing Marvel Avengers Alliance (which despite the name, fortunately wasn't really centered on the Avengers and treated all superhero teams with respect).

Also, her 3D model shown in this picture seems to reinforce that her Excalibur "armor" when on Earth is just a breast plate and pauldrons (and MAYBE poleyns).

And the helmet, which she should be wearing in the game - then again, even the creative team at Excalibur often forgot that she has a helmet, so it's perfectly understandable that the game developers also forgot about it.

Isn't her eyes color purple now?

X-Man said...

Should be purple...yes.

I prefer the blue eyes on her as blue and purple are complementary colors. The purple eyes with purple hair are a bit too much purple and nothing pops with it all being the same exact color. Since Marvel loves to retcon stuff, I think they should retcon away the purple eyes and just have her keep her blues and say she formed those with her replacement body. Besides, she always had blue eyes with purple hair until Slay ripped those out and then Spriral and Mojo installed purple spyware ones.

Psi-Psi said...

Just because you don't like the purple eyes, they should retcon to blue eyes?

When Betsy recreated her original body, she made modification so her eyes and hair color are both purple naturally and that makes her special. All I hope that they can just be more consistent with her color instead of keep changing like they have no idea what the lore should be.

One reason about western comics are less popular than Japanese manga nowadays because they don't care details like Japanese do.

They made the captain kettle sufferable. Trimmed it and super fitted the excess junk. It's the newest Betsy look for me without capes and aprons bringing about vomit.

A man of taste in a heap of tacky. Thanks for the fashion 101. Explain Lorna looks like a vegetable with green everything from hair to eyes, clothes, nails.

Had folks rooted for Disassembled Betsy and sugar plum witch corset Lorna comics would've been the most beautiful place.

Blue eyes break the saturation and uniformity and give massive oomph to the purple hair.

Rahsaan said...

They can do whatever they like as we see they always do. 😂What I’m saying is that all the purple looks over saturated and silly. Interestingly as a former fashionista, I would think Bets would understand complementary color concepts and how they make one another pop. That would seem more canonically correct versus having her want purple eyes like she got when enslaved in the WildWays.

Especially since this is a character who have a whole soliloquy about taking control of her identity and mind and body after recreating herself in Madripoor. Purple eyes were something that came of one of the various machinations she was a pawn in. For years before the character was content with blue eyes and her purple hair.

Psi-Psi said...

I think it depends on the purple they use on Betsy's eyes. She looks great when her eyes are darker purple.

Psi-Psi said...

Also, the point is when there is a story behind(she recreated her own body and choose purple as her natural hair and eyes color) as her new appearance. You can't just change it because it looks better and also you have to respect Betsy's decision on it.

I like the purple eyes now, makes her less "human" as opposed to natural color like blue.

And too bad I don't play this game but I am enjoying playing as CB Gala Betsy in Marvel FF 😍

"When Betsy recreated her original body, she made modification so her eyes and hair color are both purple naturally and that makes her special"

But to be fair, wouldn't the modifications she made apply only to that body? And that body was shattered by Isca; her current body was created by Mr. Sinister using her original DNA, wasn't it? So technically it makes sense for her to have blue eyes now.

I wonder if her hair should be blonde again now, as well - but someone has speculated that when she first dyed her hair purple, the true reason could be that her mutation was also turning her hair purple and thus dying it early could work as an excuse to justify the color (in other words, purple could be the natural color of her hair even back in her days as a supporting character in Alan Davis's Captain Britain run). It's not a flawless theory, but it works for me.

In Excalibur, Betsy's clone body also has purple eyes and hair so I guess Mr Sinister should have collected DNA from her modified body to create this clone body. I cannot 100% confirm about this but it makes more sense to do it this way.

Psi-Psi,

I see your point. I’m just trying to figure out why she would not understand complementary colors popping as a super model who used to dress to the nines. 😆 I like FSaker’s idea as a way to explain the blue. Especially since we know Sinister has been collecting DNA from everyone forever since before Krakoan society existed.

Also, it would be great if she and Brian still had the same color eyes as they did pre-Slaymaster. 😃

Kiki, I wish we could consult the X office in style. 😂 Dauterman I’d like the only one up in there who gets it. His new Ororo look for Red is perfection. I’d love for him to design something for Bets and most definitely for that unfortunate Prestige. 😫

Randy, who knows? Purple may be a “human” color one day too as blue stemmed from a mutation in the genome before it proliferated. ☺️

And I really appreciate that Russell and Kris draw Ororo with hair texture that she would probably have considering both her parents’ backgrounds. I hope that change sticks permanently and I hope we see the same in the MCU.

"Purple may be a “human” color one day too as blue stemmed from a mutation in the genome before it proliferated"

Wasn't it green which stemmed from a mutation? Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember one of my Biology teachers explaining dominant and recessive, mentioning among other things that the gene for brown eyes is dominant while the gene for blue eyes is recessive... and then someone (probably me; I was kind of a teacher's pet at the time) asked about green eyes and he explained that green eyes were the result of a mutation in the dominant gene for brown eyes...

But it was decades ago, so maybe my memory is mixing things up. If that's the case, I'm sorry, everyone!

...I guess I deviated from the point. And I agree with it: maybe someday humans will naturally get purple eyes. And I guess these eyes will look amazing!

I think it will depend on the individual with the purple eyes and the beholder of them. I have found brown eyes, blue eyes, hazel eyes, green eyes, amber eyes beautiful depending on who they belong to and conversely I have found them all not beautiful depending on who they belong to. Also, some people’s eyes complement the rest of their features and some people’s eyes don’t.

more on eye color below… For instance, on some people I love irises that are so dark than you cannot really distinguish them from the pupil:

I like the Purple eyes myself, even though Blue is my favorite color.

I don't really need her to have the same eye color as Brian anymore than I would need her have it as Jamie. They aren't identical since they are different genders.

I think the Purple makes her more unique.

Also my theory about Sinister (and probably the 5 at any later time) is that he probably used DNA from her remade body because Kwannon was the last person alive in Betsy's original body and that is all kinda messy lol.

Also I don't think Isca actually shattered Betsy, my impression was that Saturnyne put a spell on the sword Betsy had and caused it. Basically cheating.

I remember her foreshadowing earlier when someone told her she must be shattered and she says something like "no not me" lol.

Russell and Anka have sense in general. The styling vision in their heads puts fashion designers to shame.

ASAP we start fashion policing at Marvel the place where shirt and a T-shirt the size of a blanket covers lack in style.

My sweet Alan Davis made a faint try bringing out Ororo's African hair texture in Ages of Apocalypse under the cover of mist lady. The first talent to connect her mutation to her natural hair. I mean white cloud why no one has ever thought about it before that story.

FSaker said...

@X-Man, yes, I could see Saturnyne being the one causing Betsy's body to shatter like glass.

I still hope Betsy will punch her in the face during her time as Captain Britain.

FSaker said...

Then again, there is also a theory that her body shattered because Betsy made it from residual psychic energy, so it wouldn't be a stable body in the first place.

I guess it's a good thing that now she's in a real body (cloned, yes, but she gets the distinction of being the only person in Krakoa whose mind is still the original one rather than a questionable backup, and thus the only "resurrected" Krakoan who can claim she's still herself rather than a clone believing themselves to be the person they were cloned after).

X-Man said...

@Fsaker I did see that theory but dismissed it lol.

Only cause if Betsy didn't shatter during Dissasembled or Age of X-Man battles, then kinda odd she would during a sword fight in which her body should be even stronger being Captain Britain when she wasn't CB during "Dissasembled or Age of X-Man" lol.

I'm still betting on Saturnyne due to her literally foreshadowing it & Brian basically accusing her of cheating right after Betsy shattered too.

It'd be nice if Tini was a little more clear with her writing though lol.
