Gorgeous art, as usual!

Nice to see Betsy and Saturnyne being more civil towards each other - and Saturnyne deserved Betsy's remark about Brian.

The last scan with the resurrection of the psychic division of STRIKE looks impressive. I wonder what plans Howard has for them... probably they're not joining Excalibur, right? I mean, as much as I'd love a fully British team with Betsy, Wisdom and these four, Betsy would be the only character that the general audience is familiar with (and even then, far from being as popular as in her Psylocke days); Gambit and Jubilee at least bring some additional appeal for readers to follow the book.

I like the arrogant Saturnyne. Hysteria and ambition was always in her. I welcome Saturnyne's outbursts and sudden calmness giving the Queen of Hearts a run for her head.

Morgan Le Fay is about to strike hard and I can't wait to see her wrath destroy.

Hothive, Dryadors and the Sevaliths are interesting make me want to know them better. Weird magical creatures have my vote.

Mine, too. Also, it's nice to know that Pestilence and Famine were around. I hope eventually Death will be saved from his current situation; he was too cool to be discarded in a boring event like X of Swords.

Changing subject, it seems Romina Jones did another art of Betsy with a different uniform as Captain Britain... and I think this one looks EVEN BETTER than the one she did by recoloring the Disassembled uniform!!

While the other design was basically Betsy's Disassembled uniform recolored, this one is a great combination of the Disassembled uniform and of Brian's most popular uniform during his time as Captain Britain. And I love how it keeps the belt with the "X" badge, to remind us that even as Captain Britain, Betsy is still a proud member of the X-Men.

I'm really in love with this art. And wishing Marvel would make it Betsy's official uniform (they won't, sadly).

(and yes, I'm repeating the same comment I did on the previous post... that comment got lost with all the other comments there, and I'm really curious to find out if you guys also like this art)

I actually dig the look of her Otherworld armor in this issue. It's growing on me. She looks strong and stylish. To did not draw it overly bulky.

I also dig that Disassembled Union Jack look. I wish she would alternate outfits like Rogue regularly did in the late 80s.

Cerebro Cast has made an amazing thread breaking down these characters and their history, what their new code names mean and STRIKE:

Tini is clearly a big fan of these 80s CB comics, excited to see Betsy’s reaction to Tom and Alison being brought back

I like the cloaked hooded look. Kinda reminds me of her Outback armored days. Still miss her purple, blues, pinks for her signature colors though lol.

I cant help but think Saturyne is setting up Betsy.. again 😆

Romina Jones pulled off a great work of art for both versions of CB Betsy. I recommend both.

Didn't want to spoil further into the newest developments for Excalibur. The inspiration for the codenames for the deceased S.T.R.I.K.E. members is ingenius. The four humor colors reflect well the ESP powers of Tom, Alison, Vicki and Kevin.

Betsy has shown precognitive, astral projection and materialization psychic powers. Tom telekinetic and telepathic. Alison telepathic and aura reading powers. Vicki and Kevin have a variety to choose from; apportation, channeling, levitation, energy healing, divination, dream manifestation.

Meggan called Pete Wisdom "Darling" way too many times in the allotment of panels they were in.

True, but then again, it's To's art. I think he could manage to make even that hideous costume Kitty once designed by herself look good on her.

One thing that is growing on me, however, is the CB helmet. At first I liked it better whenever Betsy took it off, but now I think it kinda makes her look more powerful.

Anyway, I agree that it would be great if she could change costumes from arc to arc. But since her uniform comes from the Otherworld magic (while every other X-Man has that Krakoan technology or something in their uniforms), that's unlikely to happen...

Oh I also realized that annoying flower isnt in her hair anymore lol. I hope that sticks.

@Psi-Girl that's true, but to be fair thats not really specific to Tini. A lot of writers are inconsistent with it.

In Uncanny Remender Uncanny X-Force Betsy was a very powerful telepath but didn't use TK at all basically (which I kinda prefer, because no tk makes her rely on her physical fighting skills. Imo that always made Betsy the perfect combo of physical and mental).

In Uncanny X-Men and in Astonishing she was using TK again (to the point she almost made a building collapse when she was being controlled in Astonishing).

However in Dissassembled she needed Warren's help to fly. She had the TK weapons though, but my impression was once again that she was a much stronger telepathy than telekinetic (which again I'm fine with lol).

I don't remember how strong a telekinetic she was in Age of X-Man though.

@X-Man Betsy upgraded to telekinetic telepath after she swapped powers with Jean Grey. The proper evolution to telekinetic telepath was when Jean unlocked Betsy's Omega potential.

The Betsy with absolute telekinesis was from Age of X where she never swapped bodies with anyone. She held the Fort X shields as a member of the force warriors.

Age of X-Man Betsy has the same power with 616 Betsy.

X-Man said...

No sarcasm intended at all @Jaime Braz and I appreciate the comments, but I knew that lol.

In fact Betsy actually didnt upgrade to telepath/Telekinetic at first. She was solely a telekinetic and Jean took Betsy's telepathy and Jean initially was a sole telepath after the power swap.

What I meant was each writer seems to change Betsy's tk strength. Remender in X-Force basically wrote her as a sole telepath with virtually no TK (which I loved). Jean unlocked Betsy's omega potential as a telepath with the Phoenix force from what I recall. She still barely used tk in that book after that, if at all (again from what I remember).

In Disassembled Betsy needed Warren's assistance to fly. I was pointing out that she was able to make TK weapons but it appeared she was a much stronger telepath than telekinetic and was wondering if that same power level transferred to Age of X-Man since it directly was after Dissassembled lol.

I am just wondering if once again in Excalibur if she is supposed to be a stronger telepath than telekinetic.

We'll see eventually I guess (at least that's what I keep telling myself lol).

@X-Man I'm sorry I repeat who Betsy and what her powers are. The comics tend to change and keep adding new things and leave behind the initial character and power set.

For example they drift away from the butterfly signature and strong telepath Betsy with the mind blasts that could pierce Juggernaut's helmet and stun Sabretooth and could mind control masses of people and take the X-Men into an astral trip inside of Jean's mind.

The body swap gradually taught Betsy to use her telepathy offensively into focused weapons and in Revolution Jean traded her telekinesis so that Betsy gained more knowledge on how to make her telekinetic weapons deadlier.

Tini Howard gives a vague idea with her writing of Betsy as a generic telepath and telekinetic who translates her telekinesis into swords, shields, whips and daggers.

randybear said...

I dunno why after the split Betsy just couldn't revert to herself pre ninja.. fine give Kwannon everything but let Betsy get the persona, intelligence, creativity and strength she had before the swap. Instead shes a watered down mess left to accommodate Kwannon not compliment

The kettle in chains Betsy captain has to go yesterday. Ugh the helmet with hoodie is too much. Fashion police!

"Ugh the helmet with hoodie is too much. Fashion police!"

True. I'm kinda starting to like the CB helmet on Betsy, and she does look good with hoodies (as her Outback uniform showed very well), but wearing BOTH at the same time looks weird. She should choose one or the other.
