I read the comments on the previous post (about the story), and from what I get, some people loved it, and some people hated it. I wonder what will be my case whenever I get the chance to read it (the only X-books I'm interested in following are this one and the main X-Men book, despite reading a lot of praise for X-Force and Marauders). At least I know I'll love the art.
One thing I didn't understand from the spoilers: are both Betsy and Brian "Captains Britain" now (as he got visited by Merlyn and Roma), or does the fact that he gave the sword to Betsy mean he's no longer a Captain Britain? While it may seem redundant to have two of them around, the fact that Brian isn't a mutant could mean he could be the Captain Britain for the Avengers side or something - and his connection with Betsy could work as a link between the X-Men and the non-mutant superheroes.
And while Morgan is a vile being, I do hope Betsy and her friends will save her from Apocalypse; no one deserves to be treated as a guinea pig.
@FSaker I'm enjoying the story partly on Tini Howard's aptitude to flesh out spectrum of villainy. Apocalypse is menacing and Monarch is whimsically selfish.
I also agree with others that Betsy's telepathic and psychokinetic powers are scarcely used especially her butterfly signature. However I see a pattern to push the Amulet powers.
The art is phenomenal and I can't see another concept utilize Marcus To's talent except for the high fantasy.
Betsy is totally the new Captain Britain of the mutant side and Brian the equivalent of the human side. As I mentioned the twin artifacts of Merlyn need twin wielders. I cannot see Brian be demoted to Lionheart because that alias belongs to Kelsey Leigh.
I wish the writer atones for what was done to Morgan le Fay by making her more ruthless and a real threat to Excalibur. Morgan is the ultimate witch in the whole Marvel multiverse.
Betsy herself mentions that Brian is a citizen of the UK while she is a citizen of Krakoa and together maybe they can protect Otherworld.
I knew Brian would return as a CB and I'm glad he did. It's nice to make it work and have everyone satisfied. Now all those dumbasses complaining that CB is now a woman can quiet down now. As much as I like Brian Braddock its not as if he's ever been able to maintain an ongoing series for long since his original titles back in the 80s. (Not counting the OG Excalibur as it was a team effort with XMen characters)
Everyone also exaggerating "OMG SO MUCH ROGUE AND BETSY INTERACTIONS IN #6!" While it was a nice moment it was literally one page. These people are really exaggerating the going ons of this title 🙄
We dont know what's going on with Brian. As per usual Tini is vague and it wasnt clear where he stands we just know he chose the sword of might and asked Betsy to keep it safe somewhere. Also it looked like Betsy was handing him the amulet as she removed it and showed her placing it towards him. So who the fuck knows regardless Brian has a new design and I cant imagine itll go to waste.
Brian still has his superpowers that the Morgan spell turned dark. He is cleansed by death from it. I believe he will always have magic powers because Merlyn fused him with the Star Sceptre. The first artifact Merlyn introduced to the scientist Brian to familiarize him with magic due to Brian not believing in its existence.
The interesting part is how Brian the peace-loving nerd will master the Sword of Might or how Betsy will stop it from wreaking havoc. I see the Braddock twins be one Captain Britain split in half to protect three dominions; the Earth 616, the Otherworld and the multiverse.
@randybear you are not wrong to say that Brian was not very popular and he needed an extended mutant team to keep his book sell. Nightcrawler, Prestige and Shadowcat were the main attraction and Meggan became instant fan favorite for her naivete and honesty.
Betsy when written accurately is adventurous, brave and feisty but well-disciplined. Under the new creative team she hasn't exhibited that attitude except for quick flashes here and there.
I loved the heart-to-heart between Betsy and Rogue. It reminded of the Outback era when Betsy psychoanalyzed Annamarie and her Carol persona to keep Rogue mentally and physically stable. Some people say that Rogue and the rest of the team don't belong but little do they know about the bond that Betsy and Rogue share and the bond of Betsy and Jubilee.
Brian is definitely not "cleansed by death" did you read the issue? He explicitly states that the time he spent under Morgans spell has turned him dark and that's why he was not noble enough to choose the amulet when Merlyn and Roma appeared to him in his dream.
Maybe it wasn't clarified but the spell was broken. What Brian experiences is trauma and fears for becoming bad. Usually spells break when the puppet dies. Again we must not forget Jamie Braddock who resurrected Brian. He resurrected Betsy heavily altered in the past. But Brian isn't a telepath to keep his mind intact he is just human.
“For so long, my life has been out of control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered, I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul, my self. But no more. Now I know who I am.” – Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Braddock, daughter of Otherworld, mutant, telepath, telekinetic, defender of the realm and, above all, X-Man.

Beautiful art! To is an amazing artist.

Oh, so Brian still has his Captain Britain superpowers, then? That's good to know; thank you both very much!
