I'm can stomach the flowers on one side but the crown just looks so dumb. Wish the editors would make sure other artists had the design sketches for this costume cause it's very detail heavy.

Oh well I cant expect a Marvel editor to get anything right.

@randybear, if we makin’ a wishlist, may I add someone giving Rogue her full skunk stripe back. I really hate how the white is only at the front now and has been since the early 00s. She finally got he nig hair back. Now she needs the full stripe down the middle again.

Side note: Gambit’s updated uniform as vast improvement from previous iterations.

I'd love that look back I disliked how it's just her bangs that are white now.

But yeah I love the return of her full hair I didnt like how for a while there she looked a lot like Kitty, that weak thin ponytail with bangs look

Rahsaan said...

LOL. I hated when she had super limp hair and they were trying to make her look how Anna Paquin was styled in those dreadful X films!!!

I was thinking the exact same thing PsiGirl. I like the pink hue that reflects off her suit from her psychic sword. This is most noticeable on the 1st Excalibur cover

That's probably one of my favorite updates to Gambits' costumes. Keeps the original imagery but updates it. He's only ever had 2 other good costumes in my opinion, his Age of X suit & the mostly black with purple accents catsuit from his last mini.

It would be cool if Marvel & even DC gave artist & writers style books like we get in media work. Whenever a hero gets a major new costume or redo that's meant to stay Marvel should send other artist a style sheet.

Rogue going back to her 1980s roots with frizzy hair is cool. Her skunk stripe needs to return for it made her stand out. The green and yellow uniform makes her vegetable and I wish she had the black leotard with green punk clothes. Britain is synonymous with punk culture.

Betsy needs full hair like the hair she had in the 1980s as well. Betsy can keep her side braids but she desperately needs hair volume say a pompadour in front kept in place by her braids. I've never seen other X-Men women sport a pomp hairstyle so Betsy will be the first to make it her trademark. Bonus it can fit under the Captain Britain helmet and pop back up.

Jubilee had a minor aesthetic change of costume like Gambit not tremendous. I wonder if Red, Black and Yellow is a good combination for Jubilee or a full blue denim look as homage to her first introduction in the 1980s.

Took a second look at the variant covers and spotted a big issue with Betsy's eyes. They are black and not blue in color. To me the biggest color inconsistency artists must quickly fix.

Betsy has recreated her white body from scratch therefore her eyes need to be natural blue, neither violet nor black. She got rid of the Mojo eye implants a long time ago.

Mark Bagley ruined Betsy's eyes has drawn them Asian on the anniversary poster with every known Marvel character. Look closely and you can tell.

Also no Rictor featured in the variants. Have artists forgotten about him being on the team?

@Jaime, agreed! Yellow is not a good color on Rogue. Yellow is a great color on someone like Storm who is dark-skinned. Rogue looks her best when her uniform is accented with black or white. I do love the brown bomber. She can even keep the ponytail if has volume. These are some of her best looks. Notice two of them were drawn by Coipel.

This sketch would be a great look for her if To makes the hair big, resurrects the full skunk stripe and ditches the headband:

Good news is Marcus To confirmed on Twitter that Rogue will eventually get a new design.

Also To confirmed that Betsy's Asrar design will not be used going forward as some assumed it was one of her "multiple looks" she would have previously mentioned. The multiple looks as again confirmed by To on Twitter are the two armors. The default on the covers and her fully armored look that he says she wears when in Otherworld.

@Jamie Betsy's eyes are purple now. When she recreated her body in MiM they were violet. Zub later confirmed on twitter that both hair and eyes were now naturally purple.

Renegade X said...

@Unknown that's awesome and I'm very excited on this promising Excalibur book.

Alex said...

I really liked Asrar's design. Damn I was hoping it would stay & she'd wear the armor for Excalibur stuff & the Asar uniform for when she pops up, if ever, in the main X books.

In other news, do you guys remember when we used to wonder if Psylocke felt weird by living in a body that isn't hers (both during Acts of Vengeance and recently remodeling Sapphyre Styx's body)?

Well, HoX #4 showed she's not alone anymore.

randybear said...

Let the editors and writers know on Twitter or when they take questions for interviews on websites.

These changes are coming fast and people are bothered but not speaking up about it.

Jaime Braz said...

@randybear Oh no. Marvel doesn't want Betsy to be sexy. Asrar's Psylocke costume was beautiful and sensual without being provocative or impractical like her ninja thong. Next they put a burqa on Betsy's face. Just kidding.

Jaime Braz said...

@Unknown It's explained now. The color uniformity is dull. If Betsy had blue eyes it would break away from the purple monotony. The hair part is acceptable but the eyes don't make much sense. Anyway on the variant Betsy's eyes are black.

randybear said...

Yeah I dont care for the purple on purple on purple. Shes not Polaris, she doesnt have to be monochromatic.

It's like the editors lack any sense of style then again have you seem that creature living on Jordan D Whites head?

He needs to do his wife a solid and shave/burn/wax that thing off.

Jaime Braz said...

@FSaker I see what you did there!

Using Sapphire Styx's essence and soul energies to recreate her body, Betsy is still the boss.

The X-clones made out of Goldballs' orbs/balls is epically lame!

Jaime Braz said...

@randybear Ha ha ha! Poor old Jordan. He is an easy-going guy who says a lot OKs. That is the problem and the source of the endless flops at the X-Men department.

The editors of X-Men comics mistake the mutant characters for Mattel dolls. However the X-Men aren't casts for producing plastic toys rather creating good stories and personalities.

The Psylocke name appropriation reeks of plastic toy conspiracy with ninja iconography.

Betsy looks kinda masculine on her armor she wears on Sapphyre Styx's remodeled body.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Ughh! Watch what you wish for. The coochie-cutter was slutty on Betsy and Marvel decides to make her a Schwarzenegger.

Why don't they keep the Mahmud Asrar design to appease the stylish fans and switch with Captain Britain to make the action junkies happy?

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Rahsaan THX for the fashion sobriety. You are always a treat for sore eyes.

I'd take all of Clay Mann's costume designs for AoM and use them in Excalibur.

Feast your eyes on Betsy's and Gambit's sexiness!

randybear said...

Yeah I dont like how she looks kinda muscular especially on the Arthur Adams art piece for Comic Con.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

randybear at least Arthur Adams remembered that Betsy Braddock is a woman and drew her with hips and puffy lips. Others draw her with flat chest and Brie Larson behind. Sacrilege because Betsy was always bodacious.

P.S. I swear I'm not a lesbian but for Betsy I might think again.

Rahsaan said...

This is literally the best depiction I have seen to date of the new Captain. Glad someone colored her eyes correctly. They should be blue and her hair blonde (dyed purple). Even if the hair is naturally purple now, the purple eyes are too much as some of you have stated.

And she has the butterfly.

Unknown said...

I don't think her eyes have been blue for ahwhile now. They were at least definitely purple in Mystery in Madripoor, Disassembled and X-Tremists.

Unknown said...

They also appear to be purple in the preview art for Excalibur.

Tobias Chatti said...

Betsy's eyes don't have a stable color. Before the race swap Betsy was shown with blue eyes and sometimes with purple after she got her Mojo eyes. The butterfly was always on her eyes with design changes as artists rotated.

I don't trust Jim Zub's explanation for Betsy's hair and eyes. If you rebuild your natural body in the image of your past biological body it should have every original detail.

Tobias Chatti said...

Betsy and Brian are twins and they should have similar eyes. You can't have Brian with blue and Betsy with purple. Purple eyes are not a mutation in nature.

Manon and Maxime are twins too. See how they are depicted.

The art Rahsaan posted in the link is what artists should follow.

randybear said...

Exactly plus Betsy said it was instinctively done so they should be blue but whatever I'd think they'd give Kwannon purple eyes since that's what the Asian body had for so long. It's weird how they divided the traits between the two... AGAIN

Tobias Chatti said...

The upside to Betsy getting free from the body swap and getting her body back is that she is liberated from Mojo's slavery as Psylocke. If Marvel are ok with their Asian copycat having a slave's name I only can smirk at their hypocrisy.

The butterfly is Betsy's for the reason it has nothing to do with Mojo and is her psychic emblem. After all it is the perfect metaphor for Betsy's countless transformations.
