April 2023 Sales Ranking: "Captain Britain" Disappoints

"Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #3" landed at #150 in the sales ranking for April. At this point, there's not much else to say - the comic not only failed to attract new readers, but also lost readers from "Knights of X". What should have served as a jumping-off point ended up backfiring, further proving the lack of interest in the direction taken by Tini Howard. Clearly, the comic book was not extended for a second arc as Howard had hoped. Now, we'll keep an eye out to see what the future holds for Betsy Braddock.

I'm afraid I have bad news... TH posted a teaser image of Betsy and it looks IMO drawn by Marcus To.

If you check the @rotnpop it says those are sneak peaks at the t-shirts for their upcoming event, which TH will attend. I don't think it's a comic book.

The sad thing is, there's a chance that Marvel could blame this on a "lack of interest on Betsy Braddock" (instead of considering that "just maybe" the problem is in the way the character is being portrayed) and send her to editorial limbo, while the creative team behind this book will just be given other characters to write.

Another trash comic to the garbage pile. Keep them coming. Coming winter is going to be cold the trash start fires to keep us warm.

Marvel is the blame. Marvel can't shake finger to Betsy. The Uncanny X-Men Betsy after the body fixing was aces 2018 2019. Marvel torpedoed the Psylocke ship.

Yikes! Tini even got beat by J Holtham's craptastic Bishop: War College? That is really bad. Not surprising that folks jumped off after the first issue. The story is just ExHOWARDbur version 3.0...folks said, "nope"!

Also, no offense, but the art isn't good. You would have needed someone dynamite like bringing on Alan Davis, or bringing back Marcus To. The writing is lame, and the artist is mediocre, and the covers are some of Erica D'Urso's worst, most lazy works to date. There is no reason for anyone to be reading this book.

Truthfully, I find the art to be the only element in this comic that's improving with every issue.

I hope Betsy recovers from Tinis tampering. This time in her life I've stopped supporting the book, like I did when she got stuck being fake asian ninja chick.

Tini Howard era Betsy is the most unproductive, damaging, uninspiring, inept, ridiculous and detached from reality and continuity it could get from a writer. It manages to take previous talent work and deform it in a way never seen before. To put it simply the lowest of rankings isn't enough to illustrate how much Howard fails in every way.

Hey, everyone. AiPT is soliciting questions for Jordan White. They’re due today by 5 PM EST. I just submitted mine:

Hi, Jordan. I’m a major Elizabeth Braddock fan and have been since New Mutants Annual No. 2. It seemed like as Psylocke the character was finally at a point of self-actualization in terms of integrating all her experiences and power set and martial arts after recreating her original, rightful body on her own terms. However, since the Dawn of X, she seems increasingly removed from Krakoan affairs and the greater mutant story. And Meanwhile Kwannon has seemingly replaced her in terms of both recognition among the mutants, characterization, power set, and namesake. Elizabeth is excluded from many of the important events since HoX/PoX and it saddens me that she seems to be MIA for The Fall of X. Do you have any updates for die-hard Betsy fans who’ve been feeling ignored?

Please submit yours and be respectful about our concerns.

I know it feels futile at this point, but maybe now if he gets enough redirectional feedback, Office X will take a hint beyond the poor sales and correct our girl’s trajectory.

I also asked this question:

Many of us forever fans were super grateful and felt seen with Russell Dautermann’s redesign of Storm complete with long overdue Afro-textured hair! Storm being comic books’ most famous of African American & Kenyan character should have always had tightly coiled hair. It also is cool that it makes her hair looks like a cloud. Since many other artists other than Russell continue to draw Storm with hair texture that is closer to straight, will you and Editorial make greater efforts to ensure this depiction remains canonically consistent? Your Black readers would appreciate that.

They'll just pick questions like these "will we see more Betsy and Rachel??"

@Rahsaan great job imho on the Betsy question. I had written one as well, but not that well stated.

Personally I actually don't have a problem with Storm's hair either way. I get your point, but women do their hair differently all the time.

However, I do like the cloud thing though so I wouldn't have a problem with it staying that way, but as a black man with 4 sisters, I definitely know women can alter their hair a lot lol. Which I acknowledge that Storm seemingly hasn't done for years in it's straight status, so again I see your point.

However, on the same subject I am curious on how Betsy's hair is (not color wise, I'm glad she redid her hair and eyes purple and hope that is how her DNA is now, so even if she is reborn, she will have it from the get go).

I just noticed before when Kwannon was in Betsy's body, her hair was curly a lot of the times.

So was wondering if Betsy's hair is naturally curly or straight?

Although like stated previously, she could also be someone who just likes altering her hairstyle from time to time.

In any case, I hope Betsy gets a new writer asap and isn't stuck in limbo. She was great as Dissasembled Psylocke and I just saw "Guardians of the Galaxy" and was thinking that it is a shame they didn't use Kwannon's empath abilities creatively like they used the Empath in Guardian's to differentiate her powers from Betsy's. Smh.

Fond of the afro centric hair for Storm.

The 70s influenced the comics carried influence of the 60s straight and teased to death hair. Black people fell for the hive heads. Joke is natural afro is always superior with zero effort.

Storm changed lot hair styles from Grace Jones, Tina Turner RIP queen, white styles except her own African. Dauterman changed that and the white cloud hair is a vision we needed so bad.

From a black woman view living in a predominantly white society we are supposed to fit in and suppress the curl with so many products and chems. Worse shave it off and wear weaves to save us from balding sew ins.

Free the curl for black females is a much needed change. The struggle to adopt the European standard is about to end and I'm thankful for that. Beyonce and other artists embrace big natural hair and dreads if they feel to and that's a positive representation.

Betsy as clever she is permed her hair in the 80s and carried over into the 90s with her Revanche look. To that day remains iconic and say the Mahmud Asrar isn't returning Betsy can go back to her Revanche outfit with big flowing purple hair.

Rahsaan said...

@X-Man, ‘Ro doesn’t strike me as a sister who would relax her hair for all those years. The straight hair was just Marvel trying to make her “palatable” for Eurocentric beauty standards. And most of these artists are just too damn lazy to honor what Dautermann has produced.

@Kiki, I know that’s right! 🙌

I pray that Storm looks like Dautermann’s rendition in the MCU versus the FOX movie versions.
