So, does it mean the main X-Men book will be cancelled after the Hellfire Gala and replaced with a new volume written by Duggan?

I don't know how I feel about this... Duggan is a great writer, but it feels odd that the person in charge of coordinating the entire X-line won't be writing the main book, like he did when he was in charge of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers lines.

And two more books... one good thing about Dawn of X is how it had a perfect number of titles, allowing to show lots of X-characters without bloating the line. Ever since then, the number of titles has practically doubled, and now it's getting two more series. That's risky.

That said, I still look forward to the Hellfire Gala event.

X2 same.

Not a fan of Duggan. His Marauders is highly overrated IMO its just blatant LGBT baiting from a white straight dude none the less but the queens on twitter still eating up every issue lmao

Agreed. Marauders is average at best. Storm, Bishop and Iceman only make glorified cameos from time to time. Pyro is highly out of character, he might as well be an original character. And Duggan tries too hard to be "woke" it comes off as a cringey pov of a white old dude.

To be honest, I like Duggan's Marauders, at least from the issues I already read. It's not revolutionary or anything, far from the brilliance of Claremont's first run, Morrison's New X-Men or Hickman's HoX/PoX, it's just that... I think the characters are likeable (I mean, he managed to make me like Kate Pryde's personality now, after over a decade with other writers shoving her down our throats as a glorified Mary Sue we're supposed to worship just because they said so). It's not even related to LGBT issues (the issues I read barely touched on those), but they sorta feel like a group of friends, who are actually enjoying what they do and are enjoying spending time with each other.

It's something I miss a lot in Excalibur; sometimes it feels like Betsy's team is just together because they're forced to (even though Betsy, Rogue, Gambit and Jubilee have been friends for a long time before this book started, and Rictor had some friendly interactions with Jubilee in the past).

Then again, New Mutants also show the protagonists as close friends, yet I didn't enjoy it as much as Marauders... but that's because it felt too chaotic to me.

I accept every writer who is willing to correct the damage Howard did to Betsy and the Excalibur X-Men. I can't recognize Betsy that used to be a brave and combat person when was Psylocke to that in the Captain suit neither Rogue, Jubilee and Gambit. The writing style is confusing and bad so I will take anyone from Gerry Duggan to Vita Ayala to get the job right. The Excalibur is filled with fake outs and mentions to Claremont and Moore but it's a poor tribute of a glorious age for comics.

I'm tired of the butterfly deal giving it to Betsy and taking it back similar to how the body swap began and how it's changed its story to attack Betsy's character.

I like Duggan. Mauraders is fun. And I loved his Uncanny Avengers run. Will definitely give X-men my $$$. Plus Pepe Larraz?! Sign me up:)

Whats this rumored "The Trial" title?

The titles are spawning out of control. Quite a handful taken from the wallet. Some are essential, others could stay in talks.

I wonder if any of the initial DOX titles will end soon. Like maybe New Mutants or Excalibur as they seem to just be.... there. Plus Marvel rarely lets a book slide past 2yrs without a reboot or cancelation and the DoX is quickly approaching the 2 yr mark.

We know that Cable is ending so thats at least one title ending.

We also know Excalibur was born out of Tini pitching all the Apocalypse stuff to Marvel and they decided to just make it Excalibur. With Apocalypse stuff over and Betsy is now done with all the bs that Howard said she was experiencing up to now then I dont see what else is there for Tini to do. I'm just dying for another writer to take on Betsy its just kinda boring having only Tini get to writer her since 2019...

FSaker said...

True. Excalibur could end and Betsy could be sent to the new X-Men book (the one with the superhero team from Krakoa); if Xavier wants to win humankind's hearts over with a superhero team, having a Captain Britain in it could be really helpful.

@randybear if the speculations of Excalibur ending are true it's bad news based on the stories that can be written.

The Otherworld kingdoms were barely touched in ten of swords.

The Black Air and W.H.O. story was planted by Howard and froze.

The Clan Akkaba storyline must continue.

The Externals should reform before Apocalypse comes back in the future. And the connection of Remy to Candra.

Betsy being the ambassador of the U.K. for mutantkind.

The untold story of how Saturnyne rose to absolute power after the Mapmaker attack and the Hickman incursions.

An origin story for the astrological creatures that serve Saturnyne and the identity of the alien creature they retrieved from the heart of a sun.

And Morgan Le Fey held captive and experimented upon by Apocalypse and Exodus.

Exodus a substitute for Apocalypse on the Excalibur team if Howard feels creative enough.

And an explanation to what is Jaimie's big plan as Avalon's Monarch and how Betsy fits into it.

randybear said...

All that stuff is boring and other writers can explore those kingdoms. They still exist and aren't exclusive to Howard. The rest of her plots can disappear. im good.

Jaime Braz said...

I know it's a shared notion that Tini is a clumsy writer that leaves many plot holes and overly unorthodox in setting up a narrative. With that said she is also perceptive. She is the only DoX writer who tackled the ghost in the clone shell. I appreciate that Howard restored the real soul of Betsy in her cloned body. Other resurrected X-Men are just digital information downloaded by Cerebro in the clone bodies.

Jaime Braz said...

I'm surprised by the new X-Men line up. Polaris was destined to win and I'm happy she gets the attention she deserves.

Laura and Synch are the weird choices. I was hoping for Armor, Sunspot and Marrow.

Rogue made it and will star in two books and it makes me sad because the chance Betsy, Anna Marie and Ororo to meet again in the main team is wasted.

Jaime Braz said...

If minds are set for change so be it. Although I doubt Howard steps out considering both Excalibur and X Corps are her beloved pets. 😉

Undoubtedly the threads she started have to be addressed by the new creative team because they matter and could blow minds.

randybear said...

Thats not how it works. Betsy wasn't resurrected by the krakoa protocols. Xavier didn't download a consciousness into the body that Sinister provided.

randybear said...

Much like how Fallen Angel plots were all dropped these miniscule dangling threads in Excalibur do not need closure in the sense that Apocalypse and now Betsy needed in this title.

And Howard given XCorp feels like heres another title before Excalibur ends vibes IMO.

Jaime Braz said...

I know and I'm happy Xavier didn't download a flash drive Betsy or else we'd be with a false Betsy. The spirit journey story made it worth the while. Are the resurrected mutants exactly the same people we knew or simulations of them? Betsy was treated kindly for once. Malice too.

randybear said...

Betsy wasn't resurrected. They captured her soul and put it back in her body. They confirmed on panel Betsy wasnt dead nor were the protocols needed to restore her. They simply put her back in her body.

Jaime Braz said...

@randybear that is good news because they tried to be creative with the loss of Betsy. Have they explained the reason Betsy shattered?

Jaime Braz said...

@randybear if Howard moves to X Corp it leaves a place for a creative team change not necessarily a cancellation of Excalibur. They can tie the loose threads and move the title in a new direction to revive the interest in fans and readers. The best picks to replace Howard are Zdarsky and Wells.

randybear said...

No one wants someone else to finish tini howards boring nonclimactic resulting plots just let the few go and let's MOVE ON to something exciting and bring back the real Betsy. Im so sick of her being a whiney mess.

Jaime Braz said...

@randybear Betsy's personality is indeed underwhelming after she replaced Brian as Captain Britain. Betsy can retain her fighting skills without the ninja baggage. She has the basic self defense knowledge from S.T.R.I.K.E. followed by years of training as an X-Man and tutelage under Ogun. Logan and Ororo have shown Betsy how to fight and wield weapons so she has learned from the best. The Betsy in Excalibur is someone who looks like her but sadly is a different person. Additionally I think there is something that makes Howard hold back to write the classic Betsy with the butterfly signature, mind tricks and strategic genius.

Marvel played it safe in the voting. If they wanted Marrow would be the Wolverine on the team.
