I like how Yu drew Betsy here and the miscoloring with lavender in the armor looks good lol wish it was always colored like that

Nice art!

It's interesting that Scott and Jean are in that first cover but Doug isn't, thus having 10 people on the X-Men's side. Then again, it's just a cover and Doug is present in the other variant cover, so...

Folks at Marvel are color blind keep thinking Betsy is a pinkhead. Joke's on them Betsy near Jean looks redhead and I was waiting for this Monica to happen.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Seriously isn't there a good coloring app to set a true purple and lavender color for Betsy's hair? And stay true to that? Revanche will steal Betsy's hair color after her butterfly and Psylocke? Boo!

FSaker said...

@Kiki M. Ishola, now that you mention, her hair does look pink in the first cover (it's hard to define what color it is in the second cover).

Nothing against pink hair, it's a cool hair color (I love Songbird's pink hair streaks). But it's not the color Betsy's hair is supposed to be.

lucasg_i said...

He's not on any cover for the New Mutants after the event though

Top cover Betsy has dirty redpink tone what you get from washout. Bottom cover has neon pink hair. They can't be so useless to not color Betsy's hair purple or lavender. We're living in freakin 2020 not mixing printers stone age.

randybear said...

I asked countless times for them to please note her hair is purple. Clearly to no avail. Editorial doesn't care.

Kiki M. Ishola said...

Paying some to sit around on their fat @$$e$ and ruin the work of ages is the new editorial. Social media are an echo chamber of fluff nothing useful is made there and Betsy's hair won't be saved cause White is no Figaro.

randybear said...

The only time editorial and creatives interact or are in agreement is if it's another banal fan who kisses their ass for every tiny move they make

Why is jean there?

So glad this crossover is not focused on Jean or Scott..nice to see the focus on other characters
Just not a Yu fan at all - his art is too "sketchy" for me

randybear said...

I agree. I feel his style is better suited for something like Wolverine or Daredevil. Its kinda annoying that he always makes his way back to the xtitles.

I dont see why that would be the case. If anything now Pixie and Betsy have the same shade of pink hair.

Kwannons hair has been colored black the last few months so I don't see it being confusing as Betsys hair should be a solid purple, not dark hair with purple hue.

Its also disheartening to see some fan art coloring Betsys hair pink, as theyre probably new and are just following these colorists lead.

randybear said...

Also if you guys don't like the pink and are on twitter, please tweet the below and ask nicely to be sure her hair is purple going forward:

@ColornMatt (he colors her hair pink on tons of colors)
@cracksh0t (head xeditor who doesn't seem to care albeit claiming Betsy is a favorite of his)
@annalisebissa (assistant editor on the xbooks, she is the primary one who more than likely proofs pages and probably doesn't know Betsys hair is purple, I doubt she's been a reader/fan before she got this job)

Im surprised nobody here on this blog is pissed off with the current Psylocke situation.
All I see are comments about Betsy's hair being colored pink instead lavander/violet. Like her hair is everything everyone care about...

I'm more worried about her new status.
I think the Captain Britain idea is awful, and what they did to her, splitting her in two characters: Betsy as a British knight, Kwannon as the old asian Psylocke. Kwannon is the real Psylocke now, she kept everything except the hair. I found this funny, like Betsy's fans thinking they "won" because her hair is black, not purple. Again the hair issue. Im more worried because she kept everything else, the badassery, the psi knife, the ninja skills.
While Betsy hasn't got a brilliant moment yet as Captain Britain. I don't think the whole flying thing, the cape the shield fits her. I would prefer her as she was before, British body, Psylocke codename, psychic and new costume.
And if they want to keep Kwannon, give her a new identity and her own story, instead giving her everything Psylocke was, and giving Betsy her brother crumbs.
I hope this Captain Britain nonsense is temporary and over soon.
Asian Psylocke is very popular for merchandise, covers, videogames, and Marvel want to have their cake and eat it too. But I'm pissed of and hate what they did to Betsy. I wanted her back in her British body but now, I would preferred Betsy to stay asian instead being splitted in half and ripped of her trails.

high wisdom, dude. it really scaries me all the "wrong colour catastrophe" while the background of one of the most iconics characters's franchise is ignored and even worst, the future weakly developed. I think the ideia of Betsy turning on her british-magical roots is amazing, but the lack of attitude and charisma is really annoying. They really dont know what to do with her. Her power set is too much similar to Jean, Emma, Rachel or Xavier and Exodus. They want to put her far away, I believe. I dont know what they should do, but certainly give her Captain Britain mantle was pretty safe boring, at least could made her a strong female, not this statue without emotions.

We have all discussed our displeasure about Betsy as CB and losing majority of her traits to Kwannon on this blog ad nauseum. Where have you two been?

To Randybear
I'm around the blog very often and its funny because the hair issue is the most present argument since Kwannon came back lol

Im just too disappointed with what Marvel did to Bets.

randybear said...

Kuno the reason the hair color is the most recent talked about subject is because that's the latest thing for Betsy to lose.

If you go back to other posts we have discussed Betsy CB and Kwannon taking her traits for MONTHS. 🙄

randybear said...

They sure are. Clearly they don't read comments on every post. They need to go back to the posts that have 30+ comments and they'll see that we've discussed being unhappy with CB Betsy for a very long time and normally with other posters disagreeing and validating Kwannon.

The new preview for the chapter in Excalibur made me sad. I read it and there was no familiar Betsy. The Betsy we knew from Chris Claremont and Alan Moore hit her head and forgot.

Betsy didn't want the Captain Britain because she knew it was her brother's duty and she didn't like to borrow things. Her instinct, her visions warned her to keep away from Captain Britain to keep her eyes. In new Excalibur 13 that story was overwritten with bad fan fiction.

Betsy was proud in a good way not snob and she wanted to do things her way. But people who write her now try everything to keep Brian away from Captain Britain and Betsy away from Psylocke. And you people here were right that the writer sees her as a mean girl who is rich.

Captain Avalon is a bad name for Brian. Will the other kingdoms in Otherworld have Captains with their names? Captain Fae, Captain Roma, Captain Infuri? Then Betsy should be named Captain Starlight.

The only way I see out of this problem is Betsy return to Psylocke and Brian to Captain Britain. Kannon with a silent W can find something new and move on from her grudge on Betsy.

Kuno said...

Usually I dont post much but been visiting this blog since years and usually read the comments, specially since the whole body change and CB shit.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, I guess the dead was long beated and dead lol
Maybe the last thing we have is Betsy's hair color.

I wonder if there is somewhere we Psylocke fans we could send our complains to a X-men editor or something...

FSaker said...

@Kuno, don't worry; you're welcome to comment here at any time. I guess us Betsy's fans can be a little too passionate in the discussions of what we like and dislike in Marvel's plans for her, so even though the other topics about her were thoroughly discussed in the past (like her body swap, the way some colorists would make her hair black instead of purple when she was in Kwannon's body, her current status as Captain Britain after losing her identity as Psylocke, and so on), the current topic has been the color of her hair in the Dawn of X era. Which may seem weird, but as it was pointed out above, it's like the last straw after so many bad decisions involving her.

Nevertheless, I'm just another person who enjoys visiting this blog and commenting on it, but I'm sure luckystar (does anyone here know where she is, by the way?) and randybear wouldn't want any visitor who likes Betsy to feel unwelcome here. Each person here has their own opinions on Betsy (I, for instance, like her status as Captain Britain... though not the way Howard has been conducting this status), and sometimes discussions get heated up, but in the end we're all on the same side.

I am in the minority, but I am not a fan of Leinil Yu's artwork. He needs an inker! His scratchy, sketcy art just makes everything look washed out. I am glad he is leaving the X-Men main book actually. Hopefully Brett Booth can help to revive people's interest in Dawn of X...it's not looking good so far.

X-Man said...

I don't think Betsy really "lost" her purple hair, I think some of the colorist are just crappy lol. I definitely hated when they colored her hair black in the other body as well lol.

Just waiting for her to start really kicking butt again.

Rahsaan said...

Kuno: OfficeX@marvel.com... Though they never acknowledge anyone with a reply.

Flying Negro: I've heard from a friend who knows him that Leinil is good people, but I too don't dig his artistic style for these characters. I think he would do well on a horror-based book versus a superhero one. Looking forward to the new artist.

Jaime Braz said...

@Rahsaan Leinil Francis Yu is a very nice person despite his art might turn some people off is superior artist to Brett Booth.

The X-Men title will suffer with disproportionate long legged bodies and cloned faces from Brett Booth. Yu is detailed and naturally proportioned in human depiction. He pays extra attention to detail and proof is the hairdo he has chosen for Betsy for his cover. Marcus To stylized Betsy's hair to Rockabilly with a pomp and Yu respected that. The reason that Betsy's hair is miscolored pink instead of purple and the art is sketchy is due to editorial interference and the wrong inkers tracing Yu's original sketch.

She's winning the poll on Instagram though

Yeah shes also winning the poll on that Marvel tweet. So thats good.

X of Swords is getting really lame. I was looking forward to exciting sword fights, and all it has to offer are messy games. Disappointing.

Kuno said...

I haven't read it yet but people are saying to not read it if you are a Betsy fan.
How much shit can we get from Marvel? I'm really sick of them treating Betsy like crap, this has been going for so many years.

Simon said...

It’s fucking bullshit

FSaker said...

...Is it that bad?

I guess Tini Howard will end up being the most hated writer to ever put hands on Betsy. And that's saying a lot when we remember the writers that had messed up with Psylocke, such as Nicieza.

Mixia said...

It's really awful. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. I was asking myself what kind of drugs the authors did when they came up with this. I also read Wolverine and Marauders, and both titles are bad as well. Magik's and Cypher's "battles" were ridiculous.

FSaker said...

@Mixia, I forgot there was even going to be a Marauders issue this week...

Oh well, fortunately this event will be over in two weeks, right?

Mixia said...

You can totally skip this Marauders title. They spent 3 or 4 pages on explaining something that was undone immediately afterwards. A waste of time.

Simon said...

I didn’t hate Wolverine tbh. Some good battles. And the art in that and Marauders was gorgeous
