...Logan does realize that even if Brian slept with Saturnyne, she would still hold the tournament, right? And she's not a reliable person, so it's unlikely she would do anything to help the Krakoan Swordbearers, since she would have already gotten what she wanted.
I understand his concern with the younger Swordbearers (even though he already knows Cable lives on to become the middle-aged man that ended up being killed by his younger self, and Magik has already survived in direct battles against demon lords), but that outburst was really unfair and unnecessary. I'm glad Betsy stood up for her brother.
That was very annoying of Wolverine. Glad Brian stood up to him. I think Brian's outfit looks much better that Betsy's. I miss Dissassembled uniform lol.
I like how this artist drew Betsys face in that second panel she looks pretty but the armor...so bulky. Everyone has form fitting looks and Betsy the only one wearing an iron lung for an outfit.
I also really like that her hair is colored lavender here! Haven't seen that in a long while. Its either been colored solid purple or pink/magenta by others.
Logan has every right to be pissed of because of the circumstances the Betsy and Jaime took part in for Apocalypse's plan. People's lives are at sake and no one is simply coming back from this. I believe the way Tini Howard is setting up this book absolutely poor. It makes no sense in regards how it connects back to the Excalibur book because she constantly skip something important or doesn't highlight the actual plot within each chapter. Had she explain the purpose that builds to this very moment would have serve the story better. You can tell how Hickman is simply fixing all of her mistakes.
Has anyone noticed that Brian has gotten less and less buff/bulky over the years. He used to be a massive, hulking, dude but I feel like they have been drawing him shorter and skinner/slimmer. It's not terrible, just very noticeable.
And I want to know what happened in those 6 months between Rosenberg's X-Men and Hickmans. When did Saturnyne return to life and conquer Otherworld? I doubt she would allow herself to be beaten so easily. I am guessing that is all a psychic mind trick to gauge what the guests would do...similar to how Emma Frost tricked yellowjacket in an earlier Marauders issue.
Like how Betsy is drawn here, but I feel like we don't get nearly enough of her in anything outside of Excalibur, maybe a panel if she is lucky. Guess it speaks to what Tini Howard has done to this character, she has destroyed Betsy and reduced her power and agency in the X-books.
@Atomic Ton: Logan has every right to be pissed, but not at Brian. Brian is the last person he should be mad at. He's not even a mutant, doesn't live in Krakoa, and wasn't involved in Apocalypse's plans to create the Gate.
@The Flying Negro: What do you mean? When did Saturnyne return to life and conquer Otherworld? Saturnyne took over as Omniversal Guardian when Roma died in "Die by the Sword" (2007) and Merlyn fled was captured. She has remained the Omniversal Guardian ever since. If you mean her "death" during Secret Wars, the entire multiverse died and was brought back to life by Reed Richards/the Fantastic Four.
@Atomic Ton but that isn't Brian's fault (especially since he was already made to do things against his will at the start of Excalibur).
It's also not clear if that's what Wolverine is pissed off about. It seems more he's just upset Brian wont end this by sleeping with Saturnyne (which as someone else suggested, probably still wouldn't get her to stop the tournament).
Did actually Tini set up this book? I don't think she usually works on Mauraders, but it would explain why Logan and Betts don't sound exactly right to me. I don't think she's good at capturing the X-Men's voices or personalities. I also agree with you that her stories aren't very clear. I'm very surprised the higher ups seem to love her work so much, they let her co-chair this event.
In any case, I personally think a much better idea would have been for Logan to suggest that Betsy and Brian Switch roles in exchange for the tournament to be halted. Betsy can be Lady Avalan or Captain Avalon & Brian resumes being Captain Britian. I think Saturnyne might have actually gone for that deal, as she seems to desperately want Brian back as Captain Britain (moreso than sleeping with him I think).
Betsy used to reign supreme when she was Psylocke. Betsy had a solid place in X-Men events and history and right now after her change to Captain Britain she is alienated and hollow. The words that come out of Betsy's mouth are the wrong ones and her personality is not the classic fighter and noble style she had. If the status Betsy assumed does not change within a year or so Betsy will lose her identity and much more.
Lol, I'm sorry but Betsy as Psylocke had barely any importance let alone a "solid place" in X-Men events post-Inferno. X of Swords is actually the first event in decades that Betsy is a major player.
She did have some important moments with UXF and some moments in uncanny x-men post resurrection and before Age of X man... But I agree, this is the most front and center she has been in recent years. People just like to complain about everything these days
Betsy was never important as Psylocke. She became a buttfloss prop for a good 15 years of it and didn't actually start developing meaningful storylines again until UXF.
I liked her better as Psylocke too! She had some bad and some good storylines. But now sge seems out of character just when she's back at her own body ironically.
“For so long, my life has been out of control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered, I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul, my self. But no more. Now I know who I am.” – Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Braddock, daughter of Otherworld, mutant, telepath, telekinetic, defender of the realm and, above all, X-Man.

Logan is so dumb. If anyone is to blame, it's Apocalypse/Betsy/Excalibur for creating that External Gate mess.

they never know how to properly write a very strong alpha woman.
Yet another reason I dislike Wolverine. He used to be a favorite in the 80's can't stand him now. Outside of some movie portrayals.
