The action deficit the X-Tremists suffered from will be crammed into the last issue. Personally this comic was a mixed bag. The worst part was Betsy moping due to a body dysmorphia and eating disorder she never had in the past. The best was Betsy showing emotions and normal interactions with her teammates. In Kwannon's body she was always brooding and distant. Jubilee and her carefree honest style was also a winner but it wasn't enough.
Finally we're at the end.
There's been nothing worthwhile for me to even comment about till this was over.
Looking forward to what Hickman will be doing.
So wtf was it ever acknowledged why Dani is in both 616 and this reality? Also same for shogo hes here in AoX but Karma mentions having him in Uncanny.
Jordan White.. please resign
@randy... LMAO! So true. This is why I'm excited about Hickman. I often think the rest of the X Office gives zero fucks about consistent continuity and consistent characterization.
Aren't they waiting to spill the beans with AOXM Omega? Granted they noticed the cameo errors.
Now, @Jaime... As much as I am pleased that Betsy is restored to her own body, she did not spend all her time in Kwannon's being a broody lurker. That was only for the first year or so of print after Acts of Vengeance and then briefly again during her creepy Crimson Dawn phase. For the most part, she is just emotive as the rest of the team.
It wasnt until CC got Psylocke back towards the end of the 90s that she wasnt acting like a stale bitch
The 90s Psylocke was darkness of a broken soul. The Crimson Dawn phase was the longest fall from grace that lasted until 2001 when X-Men Revolution began the changes and prepared for Betsy's death.
There was an additional reason to why Betsy was grumpy and he was called Shadow King locked inside her mind.
I am totally convinced now by revisiting these stories that the writers did all they could to maximize the pain dealt to Betsy.
Ed Piskor summarized Betsy's state of mind after the body swap having her scream ''martyrdom'' during the Genoshan War Crimes Tribunal.
Betsy has gone through the worst more than any other X-Man if you count all the brainwashing experimentation, physical and mental abuse and attacks against her.
Jamie that's all fine and dandy to try to validate horrible characterization but the truth is they just wrote her stoic cause it's... KEWL she was a dark ninja. Its not like writers attempted to deal with the body swap in any manner of depth
@randybear agreed. Psylocke transformed from British psychic to psychic ninja in a messy and inhumane way in order to make her sell using the hottest trends of fandom. From a business view the seductive action figures of Yellowface and appearances in video games made a fortune. Depth and creativity were dropped for easy profit.
In the 90s creators didn't care for complex psychological drama and promoting meaningful racial representation. The body swap was non-existent in Chris Claremont's original story and because of Fabian Nicieza's carelessness the Yellowash plastic surgery became a MacGuffin character called Kwannon. The Yellowash brought the needed edge during the Liefeldian age of pouches, muscles, sexiness, big guns and blades.
"The Yellowash brought the needed edge during the Liefeldian age of pouches, muscles, sexiness, big guns and blades."
DEAD!
So true though.
Lee's Psylocke influenced the design of a lot of female heroines (mostly indie publishers) but it's just another indication Asian Psylocke was undeniably a product of that time.
